%he %emple of $akka, a Ptolemaic temple originally situated forty miles north of its present
location. 7uilt using fragments of an older '+th $ynastytemple 4possily uilt y an Ethiopian
king Arkamani9, it was dedicated to%hothof the !ycamore"ig. %he ais of the temple runs
parallel with what was once the river.
Dakka Temple
3lose y is the temple of Mahararqa which once stood fifty miles to the north. 2t was
dedicated to2sisand !erapis, ut the decoration was never completed. %he most important
remains are those of the hypostyle hall.
Temple at a!i as"Subua
ust south of the $akka%emple is &adi as8!uua4&adi es8!eua9 where two temples are
located. 2t is known as the alley of the Lions ecause of the sphines that once lined the
avenue leading to the first temple. 2t was constructed yAmenhotep 222and added to
y;amesses 22. >nfortunately, most of the decorations were defaced yearly 3hristians.%he
front is free standing and the rear was rock8cut. %his temple consists of a sanctuary, a court, a

aout three kilometers 4two miles9 to the west from its original location. %his temple was also
also originally free standing and rock8cut.
Temple of Derr
%he nettemple is Amada, the oldest of the temples, going ack to the '+th dynast with
restoration work from the '(th dynasty. %uthmosis 222,Amenhotep 22,and%uthmosis 2were
all involved with its construction, and!eti 2restored sections of it. %he fine preservation of the
temple is due to 3hristians plastering over the reliefs. %he temple, dedicated to Amun8;e
and;e8#arakhte,contains an inscription relating the crushing of a Liyan8acked reellion
y-ing Merneptah4'5'58'515 739. At the ack of the temple inscriptions tell aout the
famous wars in !yria of Amenhotep 22s and how he ought ack the odies of reel chieftainsto hang on the walls of%hees. :ne ody was hung from the prow of his ship sailing through

Nuia as a warning. %his temple was moved aout two kilometers 4one mile9 from its original
site.
Neary is the temple of $err, uilt y ;amesses 22and dedicated to himself, Amun8;e, ;e8
#arakhte and Ptah.. %his rock8cut temple is well decorated with right, visile colors and was
moved from near the Amada temple in '()*. %here is also the tom of Pennut here that
originally stood at Ania. Pennut was an administrator in Nuia during the reign of ;amesses
2and is shown receiving honors from him in this rock8cut tom. #owever, large sections ofwall inscriptions have een cut away.
