MARTIN’S CLOAK SUMMER SOAP AND SHAMPOO DRIVE This summer, when you travel and stay in hotels or motels, please consider retrieving the bars of unused soap and vials of shampoo provided in your rooms. Cloak Summer Collection baskets in the Gathering Space of church. The contents of the baskets will be distributed periodically throughout the summer to Shepherds Table in Silver Spring, or to SOME or Father McKenna Center in the District. These centers provide toiletries and/or shower facilities for the homeless to maintain personal hygiene and the self-respect which that reflects. We will be collecting these items beginning June 30 until the Labor Day weekend. If you have questions about this initiative, call Paul Eder at 301-956-6273. Visit the Music Ministries page at www.stjanedechantal.org/ministries/music-ministry

for information on the many music ensembles at St. Jane.

USHERS NEEDED We are in need of additional ushers to minister at the 12:00 noon and Sunday 5:00 pm Masses. The usher ministry does not require a weekly commitment and can coordinated with your personal schedule. Training is provided on site. If interested, call the parish office to leave your name.

Visit the Faith Formation page at www.stjanedechantal.org for information on

the various programs, registration forms and calendars.

2018-2019 FAITH FORMATION REGISTRATION Registration for next year’s Faith Formation year is under way. We have classes for Pre-K3/4 through eighth grade, as well as High School Teen Ministry. Pre-K3/4 and Kindergarten meet on Sundays during the 10:00 am Mass. Grades 1–8 meet on Tuesdays from 6:00–7:15 pm. Classes for first Communion and confirmation are also being formed. A child is not automatically enrolled in the sacraments of first Communion and confirmation. If you would like to enroll your child in the sacraments or would like more information, contact Sally Daniel at [email protected] or 301-530-1640. Register your child at http://stjanedechantal.org/faith-formation/religious-ed-k-8/register. 2018-2019 HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH MINISTRY REGISTRATION High School Teen Ministry is a great way for our teens to stay in contact with friends they have made while at St. Jane’s School or CCD, as well as to stay connected to the parish. High School Youth Ministry is not CCD for high schools students. While there are times we focus on a particular topic of faith and life, everything we do is to help the students grow in their faith and live it out, through things like social activities, service opportunities, parish involvement, and retreats. High School Teen Ministry meets about three times a month, mostly on Sundays from 6:00–8:00 pm, with an occasional outing outside of that time. There is a teen leadership team who assists with the youth ministry. Register at http://stjanedechantal.org/faith-formation/religious-ed-k-8/register. CCD TEACHERS, CO-TEACHERS, & DOOR/HALL MONITORS CCD teachers are needed in grades K, 1, 2, 5, and 6; co-teachers/aides are needed in grades 1-8 for next year. Three door/hall monitors are also needed. These are vital ministries in the parish so that our young people can learn

and grow in their faith. You do not need to have teaching experience to teach the faith, only a love of the faith and a love of being with children. Training and help will be given with materials to use, in-service, as well as a guidebook on planning lessons. The Virtus child protection background check, which can be completed in the summer, must be completed before volunteering can begin. If you would like more information or to volunteer, contact Sally Daniel at [email protected] or 301-530-1640.

Check out the St. Jane de Chantal School website at www.dechantal.org to get information on admissions,

see what each classroom is studying, and more.

For more information on vocations, education, family, youth, social concerns, & other events

social media tools, a YouTube channel, and apps. WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE ON TV? Join the congregation at a taping of the Sunday TV Mass! Dates: July 19, 23, 26, 30, Aug. 2, 6, 9, 13. For details, call Jackie Stippich, Executive Director, at 301-963-6223. Over the years Shady Grove Pregnancy Center has served over 37,000 women and their families. Just one person from our church can make all the difference in the life of a woman or family in crisis.

Today’s reading from St. Paul explains the “divine economy” of stewardship — “The relief of others ought not to impoverish you;

there should be a certain equality. Your plenty at the present time

should supply their need so that their surplus may in turn one day supply your need.”

(See 2 Cor 8:13-14)

POOR BOX The Poor Box next weekend, July 7/8, will benefit So Others Might Eat (SOME), which provides daily meals and other immediate needs for the homeless and those who are extremely poor. SOME also provides programs that address the root causes of homelessness and poverty, including a six-month job training; daily socialization for men and women suffering from mental-illness; addictions counseling; and affordable, service-enriched housing. For more information, visit www.some.org.

“The Resurrection of Christ acts in history as the principle of renewal and hope. Anyone who is desperate and tired to death, if he entrusts himself to Jesus and to his love, can begin to live again. And to begin a new life, to change life is a way of rising again, of resurrecting. Faith is a force of life, it gives fullness to our humanity; and those who believe in Christ must acknowledge this in order to promote life in every situation, in order to let everyone, especially the weakest, experience the love of God who frees and saves.”

Pope Francis, Angelus, St. Peter’s Square,

28 June 2015.

POPE FRANCIS

Reading I Ez 2:2-5

Reading II 2 Cor 12:7-10

Gospel Mk 6:1-6

This summer, entertain with a purpose! If you are planning cookouts, picnics and trips to parks, the beach or the movies, invite one or more inactive Catholics or unchurched individuals or a family to join you for some wholesome fun. Make this an opportunity to witness to Christ. Pray before meals. Play board games or engage in outdoor activities that show good sportsmanship and team work. Watch a meaningful movie together. Introduce them to another guest who is prepared to share a relevant and convincing testimony of conversion, reconciliation or healing. In a word, allow your friends to experience the love or Christ in a non-threatening environment of family fun. This could very well lead to further dialogue about matters of faith.
