The Orator I have to apologize to everyone, I have not done as good this year as I did last year. I missed the deadline for my first Mentors article by 2 weeks. I have been a little pre-occupied with my personal life. Some of you already know that in February I got engaged and in August Kathy moved in with me. I was preparing the house for her arrival. Since then we’ve been house hunting and put in a purchase offer on another house here in Utica, finally we agreed on the selling price. We should be moving around the first week of November. The last 3 months have been a blur, but I will try to sum it up the best I can. September 25th-28th was the US JCI Senate Fall Board in Seattle, WA.. Chris Nunn #60786, Rox Astry #57298, Perk Newel #607785, Darryl Jones #26113 and I #66381 were in attendance. We visited the Space Needle, the Farmers Market, a Mariner’s game and other local attractions. We also went to meetings and the banquet. What a beautiful part of the country. The Washington Senate did an outstanding job hosting the meeting….THANKS for all your hard work. The following weekend, October 3rd, the NY JCI Senate meeting was held in Albany. We had good attendance with 14 Senators and 2 guests at the meeting. Two Senatorships were presented that weekend. The 2007 Vandermark Memorial Senatorship was finally presented to Louise Gundrum and a Senatorship was presented to Dave Stern #68349. Dick Tilton #26999 and Ron Weiler #28613 are co-chairing our 45th anniversary luncheon sometime in May at the Jaycees convention. We are waiting for the Jaycees to pick a date and location for the convention. It was supposed to be in Region South, but due to time restraints they could put it anywhere in NY. Dick and I have both talked to JCI Senate President Pat Hoelker #45893 about attending, she is available the first weekend of May. NVP John Robinson #55768 also wants to attend. I look forward to finishing out the year strong. The Seattle meeting was great and downtown Seattle was beautiful. The weather was in the 70's forgreat touring weather. Perk and I arrived on Thursday afternoon and took the short bus to the hotel. We were fortunate to have asked the driver of the big bus that said Double Tree if it was going to theDouble Tree Guest Suites and he directed us to wait for the short bus. Not everyone was that luckyand ended up going to the wrong Double Tree. Of course as soon as we unpacked we headed for thbar to see who we could find. and sure enough the Senate group started gathering there. After a fedrinks and dinner we dressed for the Thursday Night Hospitality that was promoted as "Come as yowere in 1977". It seems that Perk and I were the only ones that got that memo besides Will from IdaWe dressed in our New York starred vests and wore afros and expected to see a variety of attire butNO we were the only ones..

On Friday a large Senate delegation rode the public bus(something Perk and I swore we would nevedo again after our two hour bus ride to Va. Beach) to downtown Seattle. We had the locals on the bucracking up with our antics. Senate friends from Kentucky knew what bus and monorail to take to geus to our destination. The picture above is the group that was travelling together to see the SpaceNeedle and Public Market. What a gorgeous view from the Space Needle where you could see formiles. We then proceeded to the Public Market and had lunch. It was an adventure and we hurriedback to the hotel so we could be ready for the bus to take us to the Mariner-Oakland baseball game. Most all the Senators went to the game and it was a good time.

On Saturday we had our board meeting in the morning and then we had a personal tour of Seattle. Agirlfriend that I graduated high school with lives in Seattle and we had been planning for months ongetting together while I was visiting. Unofrtunately however, she called me Thursday night and saidhat her mother had a stroke and she had to fly back home where I live. Her husband graciously

volunteered to still be our tour guide and take us for lunch. I asked her if he was crazy or what? SoPerk, Barb (our roommate and buddy from Kansas) and myself were picked up at the hotel, picked uood from a deli near where they live on the west side of Seattle and got to see Sally's house and haunch on top of their roof. This is a view to die for, overlooking downtown Seattle and the SpaceNeedle. We also toured the area, went to the Canals and Nathan showed us the first Concord and 74hat were built. He is an engineer for Boeing so he had some inside knowledge where they were. It

was such a great tour and got to see Seattle from a natives pointof view and interest. We got to see the house that "Sleepless in Seattle" was filmed in.

Sunday came too soon and we left hotel at 5:30AM so we could hurry up and board our plane for ouhour lay over in Atlanta. We arrived home at 2:30AM and had to get up at 6:00AM for work but it waswell worth it.Rox Astry #57298Newsletter Editor

JCI SENATE

45TH ANN IVERSARY

It's hard to believe that time has past so fast since NY JCI Senate celebrated its40th Anniversary back in the spring of 2004. At this point we are waiting for exactdate of are 45th. It will probably be first or second weekend of May 09. TheJaycees have'nt set exact date and place yet as of this writing.

Past Senate President 96-97 Ron Weiler and myself President 95-96 will beworking together on this special time.

Tentatively are Friday evening business meeting we will tie in a fun time of asocializing afterwards. I would like all Past Presidents to dig stuff out from theirterm like pictures & newsletters. I want to set up tables to display materials bothFriday evening and Saturday morning. A Video will probably be added from 40th.If you have some photos you would like to add that were not used before I wouldlike no latter than earley April video wise.

Once we have exact weekend and place you will see more information. Wemight also tie in with past Presidents of the Jaycees a lot who became StateSenate presidents. We will have a Senate luncheon program Saturday. For thoseof you traveling, plan on spending at least Friday evening over night. I am lookingforward to many a war story of days of old. We may be older, heavier and grayeror less hair but are stories have'nt change.Yours in the Senate spirt,Dick Tilton Co Chairman 45th Anniv.
