THE FIRST COMMENCEMENT: CONGRATS, CLASS OF 2014!

On June 10, the first graduating class of The Burlington School enjoyed commencement

exercises at Elon University’s McCrary Theatre. Our 19 distinguished seniors have earned over

$2.47 million in scholarships and the Class of 2014 consists of all-state athletes, exemplary

scholars and collegiate fellows. Truly, they are the embodiment of the TBS spirit! In special

moments shared with friends, family, faculty and staff, our graduates spoke eloquently of

memories shared with peers, the dedication of TBS faculty, and the sentiments they will treasure

after departing from The Burlington School. We are immensely proud of our graduates, who

serve as an incredible example for generations to come.

From Top left: Junior Marshalls convene for a photo in front of Lake Mary Nell; Ms. Shelly Killeen, Board President John McDonald, and Dr.

Smokey Oats smile at comments made by Student Government President Asad Khan; members of TBS faculty and staff pose for a gorgeous

photo outside of McCrary Theatre.

Below: Keynote speaker Dr. Les Stein smiles after the ceremony; Nicholas Lea and Elissa Sandlin smile for classmates as their photo is taken;

Connor and Brannin Webber are photographed prior to the ceremony; faculty and staff are photographed with seniors after the ceremony

ends; BJ Bradshaw shows an outpouring of emotion while embracing Ms. Killeen prior to receiving his diploma on stage; the entire senior

PRODUCING LOVE, CONSUMING HEARTS

The end result of the second grade class’ producers and consumers project (which took the form of a

bake sale on the Greenwood Terrace campus during the week of June 2) was a whopping $1,019, which will benefit a family in need! The humble students were the subject of positive press last week, with a photo and caption on the front page of the region section in the June 6 issue of The Times News. On many mornings last week, second grade students were seen explaining the goal of their project to

parents and visiting students, rousing interest and stirring compassion amongst peers and faculty alike. We are exceptionally proud of the initiative taken by our students to cultivate an inventive project-based

learning opportunity. Just another way TBS students tie curricular material to real-life applications!

MAKE A GIFT TO THE FACULTY ENRICHMENT FUND!

Parents, please know that your gifts always make a

difference!

Honoring your child’s teacher with a gift supports professional development, classroom supplies, equipment, books and other pre-approved expenditures. The Head of School and/or an appropriate designee from TBS will administer the Fund. Thank you for your support! Here's how to give:

Visit www.burlingtondayschool.org/givenow,

Select the fund from the drop down menu,

Indicate the teacher you wish to honor, and

Make any additional notes of thanks in the comments box on the form!

If you would like to make your gift the old-fashioned way, drop your check by the front office of the Greenwood Terrace campus with a note in the memo line that it's to support the Faculty Enrichment Fund. TBS will be sure to let the teachers know a gift has been made in their honor! All funds donated through the Faculty Enrichment Fund are fully tax-deductible, will directly support the teacher you are honoring, and the funds will be accessible by them for use in their classroom. Visit page 25 of the TBS Family/ Student Handbook for more information!

ALL REMAINING LOST AND FOUND ITEMS WILL BE

DONATED JUNE 30

All lost and found items from both campuses will be on the Greenwood Terrace campus in the hallway by the gym entrance. If you are missing articles of clothing or other objects, please visit the Greenwood

Terrace campus to claim your items!
