Board of Director Candidates SI FENTRESS

OKCGC Club Members

I am running again for reelection to the Club Board of Trustees and I would appreciate an opportunity to continue to serve the club.

I joined the club in the late 70’s and have actively participated in 3d Archery, the Skeet league, Bullseye pistol, Silhouette, High Power, Action pistol, 3 Gun, Steel Challenge, AR steel challenge, Military bolt action, Prairie Dog, 22BR, CMP and Vintage Sniper matches at our club. I have also run and assisted running matches at our club. Previously I held a position on the board for a number of years and was treasurer in the late 80’s – early 90’s. I have a unique long term perspective of our club and I am interested in the overall well being of the club, its members and all divisions within the club. I ask for your continued support and thank you for letting me be of service to our club.

JIM FIELDS OKC Gun Club Voting Members

Being my 3 year term as a board member expires this year (2017) my intention is to seek re-election for yet another 3-year term. I have been a member of the Oklahoma City Gun Club since 1962 (55 years) . . . I used to be 55!! I've been on the board & division chairman for the pistol silhouette range 34 years.

With the help of many, many club members over the years we've made many significant improvements to our silhouette range that it is now the best range of its kind on the planet. I've overseen almost 500 IHMSA monthly matches as well as 170 IHMSA championship matches including three (3) IHMSA World Championship matches & have number four (4) on the schedule July 14 thru the 22nd of this year (2017).

I've been the club's caretaker for the past 13 years & have donated countless hours over the years on many projects outside my division including the designing, fabrication & construction of our new main gate & entry-way which benefits every member of this fantastic club.

J.R. HILE To : Oklahoma City Gun Club Members

Hello All,

Three years ago I asked you to allow me to serve you as your representative on the Oklahoma City Gun Club Board of Trustees. My goal was to protect the interests of all gun club members and to do all that I possibly could to make our club stronger and to insure that our ability to enjoy the shooting sports were available to everyone.

You responded by electing me to serve as your representative and I have worked very hard to represent you. I created a system for approval of capital improvement projects to safeguard your (the clubs) financial resources and implemented a check system for large expenditures. We also reopened the voting membership rolls to allow more members to be able to have a greater voice in the operation of the club.

The challenges and risks facing our club in the coming years have not gone away. We are a very large gun club with an annual revenue of $400,000.00. The good news is that we are able to make significant improvements to the ranges (Shotgun, Muzzleloader, and Action Pistol) just to name a few. The bad news is that we now must be even more diligent and careful in the manner that we conduct our business and spend the club's money. As I said before, the size of our club and our financial resources makes us a potential target. It must be protected.

If reelected, I will continue to work to protect the interests of all zivisions and club members. The time and effort, that I volunteer, I consider a privilege. I have faithfully attended board meetings the past six years. First as a division chairman and the last three years as board member.

For those of you who may not know me, let me tell you a little about myself. My wife Melody and I have been gun club members for over twenty years. We compete in the Skeet League and Cowboy Action Shooting and use the benchrest and plinking range. We are both committed to The Oklahoma City Gun Club.

I feel that my business experience, after being a managing partner in a successful contracting business, has helped me to be an effective board member. I believe our primary role as board members is to protect our resources and improve the club. My personal goal is for the club to be better when I am gone than it was when I came.

If you ever have issues or questions, that you would like to have addressed by the board, please contact me at 409-9442 or [email protected]. I am your representative and I will attempt to provide resolution.

I ask for your support and your vote to allow me to continue to work on your behalf. My promise to you, is that I will continue to work for "you".

Thank you, J. R. Hile

JACK LEGG Dear Voting Members:

It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve the Oklahoma City Gun Club as a member of the board. After serving one term on your board I am even more convinced that each board member should view themselves as a Director and advocate for the entire club, rather than a representative for one division. I believe this whole club philosophy to be the prevailing philosophy of board members today.

Board of Director Candidates JACK LEGG (CONT.)

The Oklahoma City Gun Club has been a large part of my life for the past eighteen years. I have served in the past as a co-chair of the Cowboy Action Division. In addition, for several years I served as match director and as Co- match director of Land Run, which is the Cowboy Action Divisions’ annual match and one of the largest functions produced by the Oklahoma City Gun Club. Land Run has over the past several years produced thousands of dollars which have been reinvested into improvements for our club. Also, for several years I was active in the Shotgun division shooting registered skeet as well as skeet leagues and fun shoots. I served on the planning and construction committee for the new five stand division. I have also assisted with the planning and construction of new RV sites and other improvements at the cowboy/action pistol range.

My education and work experience is in Business and construction. I graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a degree in Business Administration with a major in Real Estate. As a side note, when I started college the University of Central Oklahoma was known as Central State College and Edmond was a sleepy little town. Jackie, my wife of 47 years, is also active in the gun club and we are now both retired. I am a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and highly Patriotic. My love of this country and our constitution is great and I believe that for the future of this great nation we must protect and preserve the second amendment of our constitution. I do not believe we can over emphasize the importance of the protection of the second amendment as one of the Oklahoma City Gun Club’s primary missions.

Given another term on the board, I will continue to support policies and actions which advance the well-being and secure the future of our gun club and advance the accomplishment of the missionsof the Oklahoma City Gun Club.

Your vote would be much appreciated.

Respectfully,

Jack Legg

KENT SHOMBER OKCGC Members:

I have been an OKCGC member since roughly 1990 and have been active both competitively and through service as the High-power range chairman/match director for several years. I am currently serving as assistant High-power director as well as serving as a member of the board. I am seeking re-election to the board for the following reasons:

I have really enjoyed working with the Board of Trustees. Your board is a bunch of professionals who truly have the interest of the membership and your club at heart. I consider board membership as a true privilege. I would like to continue to help our club grow and make improvements.

Over the past 24 years I have literally been involved in hundreds of gun club improvements and maintenance projects in multiple divisions. I see club improvement as the cornerstone to a healthy and growing organization. As a member of the board, I just won’t vote to advance the club through improvements; you can bet I’ll be on the business end of a shovel or running a tractor, getting things done.

I am a competitive shooter in the high-power division and have competed in several other disciplines. As your board member I will continue to encourage casual shooters to compete. Our involvement in our shooting sports brings other competitive shooters to our club thus increasing visibility and revenue. In closing, thanks for considering me for continued board membership. We really have something special here in the OKCGC, and I’m continually proud to contribute.

BUCK SIFFORD I’m Buck Sifford and have been a member of the OKC GC for over 20 years. I’m currently a member of the board and I’m respectfully asking for your vote to return me to the board for another 3 year term. I’m active in the shotgun division, both skeet and trap. I serve as the skeet league director where I manage 3 skeet leagues per year with approximately 150 shooters in the Spring league. 50 shooters each in the Summer and Winter leagues. When I’m not shooting skeet I’m a fully commissioned county deputy serving in the reserve division. From 1966 to 1986 I was an active duty Air Force pilot, the last 6 years was served here at Tinker as an AWACs Aircraft Commander and Instructor Pilot. In my 20 years in the Air Force I was privileged to serve in many countries around the world. In my last 6 years I was primarily in Saudi Arabia where I supervised 100’s of Airmen and was in charge of a multimillion dollar operation. In January 1987 I was hired as an Instructor Pilot at the AWACs simulator teaching Air Force Pilots how to fly the E3A (AWACs Airplane). I recently retired from that job, after 29 years.

With no full time job I can devote more time to my favorite hobby, skeet shooting, and helping new shooters perfect their skills. I ask for your vote to return me to the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma City Gun Club. See you at the range.

BRENT TATE My name is Brent Tate and I’ve been a member of the OKCGC since 2008. I am seeking a position on the board of directors to further the growth of the shooting sports for our club and to be a representative for all members of the OKCGC. My wife and I primarily joined the club because we wanted to learn to shoot skeet. We’ve participated in nearly every skeet league since that time, and helped teach the beginning skeet class since 2009. Our love of skeet (and shooting in general) and teaching others inspired us to become NRA Certified Shotgun and Pistol Instructors and NSSA (National Skeet Shooting Association) Level I Instructors. We started shooting registered tournaments in 2011 and participate in 12-14 shoots per year in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas. Three years ago we were asked to take over as Shotgun Division Chairmen. Quickly realizing this was not a one or two person job, we recruited many devoted members to help organize the running of the largest division of the OKCGC. Due to our leadership and the help of these fine people, the Shotgun Range looks better than it ever has.

Old run-down sheds have been removed and a new one completed; the electrical and water systems have been updated for the RV spots and several more RV spaces have been added; handicapped parking spaces have been added to enable members and guests with mobility issues to access both the upper and lower fields; and our current project is the addition of several trap fields inlaid with our skeet fields. This will bring positive growth not only to the Shotgun Range, but to the OKCGC as a whole - in adding more opportunities for the shooting sports. Adding trap fields will allow our club to hold larger tournaments not only for adults, but for our youth in 4-H, FFA, Boy and Girl Scouts, and collegiate shooters. Another positive result of the trap field expansion has been the prompting of the recovery of lead from our range – a much talked about before project that never got off the ground until now. If I am elected to the board, I will continue to help make the OKCGC the awesome place it is for all members. I would appreciate your vote.

April 2017 Primer 4

Action Pistol Division 101 shooters turned out for the March USPSA match, with 7 stages and about 170+ rounds re-quired. The weather cooperated and we had a great day for the match. We also had a number of first time USPSA shooters, which is always great. We are starting to use the Practiscore website for pre-registration for our matches. It is not required, but is encouraged. There is no charge when you pre-register -- you pay at check-in on match day. We have decided not to offer online self-squadding for the USPSA matches at this point. While there are some advantages, there is a significant down-side as well for our matches. Links to pre-registration will be included in match announcements so if you are not receiving them, go to the Ac-tion Pistol Division on our website and select “Sign Me Up”. The scores are as follows:

REMINDER: The Action Pistol Ranges will be closed from March 30

th through April 9

th for the

Cowboy’s Land Run event. The exception to the closure will be our April USPSA match which will be held as scheduled. Please check the calendar for any date changes and be respectful of their match and associated preparations. OTHER IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

Tracer rounds or any type of incendiary ammunition is strictly prohibited. Shooting from outside the bay is prohibited even if the intended impact is safely within

the confines of a bay. ALL shooting activity must occur within the confines of a bay. PLEASE pick-up after yourselves and don’t leave trash or targets. There are trash cans on

most bays as well as a large dumpster. The Muzzleloader/Black Powder Range is closed for construction until further notice. It’ll

be a huge improvement for us when it’s back in operation, with 2 bays, each with 100yd depth.

Our next monthly USPSA/IPSC match will be April 1st. Come on out and play. ALWAYS CHECK THE WEBSITE FOR LAST MINUTE UPDATES & SCORES. .

Need a Workday? Want updates on Club News?? Urgent calls for club help??? We need YOUR help!

We’ve recently implemented a more effective email distribution service to get club information out to our membership; while the feedback we’ve received is very positive, it is evident that we are still missing many of our members.

Make sure your current/preferred email address is in our database so that we

can do our best to disseminate club information effectively. Currently, about 30% of our membership have no email address on file. Of those that do have one, it appears that a significant percentage of addresses are not being checked – perhaps the email ad-dress on file is no longer being used. If you are not receiving email from the okcgunclub.org address, it is possible that your email appli-cation is routing it to a SPAM or Junk folder. If that is the case, you can mark mail from that ad-dress so that it will be properly delivered as valid email, going forward.

*** The Blackpowder/Muzzleloader Range is CLOSED Until Further Notice ***

Construction has begun on the range to raise the berms, adding a center berm to divide the range into 2 100yd ranges, and building new firing line covers.

We expect several months of construction from start to finish, potentially through June 2017 We will notify the membership when the range is again available for use.

Thank you.

Youth Division News Sun, wind, temperature variations that's Oklahoma for you, however, this did not keep the Oklaho-ma State University Shotgun Club from holding their annual Cowboy Shootout. The event was held at OKC Gun Club on Saturday and Sunday March 4 & 5. Collegiate shotgunners numbered 93 and represented 11 different colleges and universities from across the region. University of Wyoming traveled the farthest and they mentioned it was much warmer here than when they left Laramie at a balmy 16 degrees. Colorado State University, University of Missouri, University of Central Missouri, University of Colorado, Iowa State, Kansas State, Wichita State, Fort Hayes State, Conners (OK) and Midland College from Nebraska completed the field of schools shooting the 350 target event. Saturday's events were skeet, trap and 5-stand. Sunday's events were doubles trap and doubles skeet. OSU's Shotgun Club members run the event and work hard to make sure the event runs smooth-ly. This is the shotgun club's biggest fundraiser of the year. It enables them to send teams from OSU to the Collegiate Nationals in San Antonio. THANK YOU TO OKC Gun Club and the members who volunteered to make this event a success.

Wanted: 600-yard Prone Program Director To all club members that enjoy participating in the 600-yard Prone program: Darrell Blanchard, the Director for the Prone Program has stepped down to pursue other interests after several years of running the program. This leaves the Highpower program with a vacancy that serves OKCGC club members as well as a significant number of competitors around the state. I am looking for an individual or individuals that can run a safe and efficient range, is familiar with current Highpower Rifle rules, likes to work with people, and has a vision for where you’d like the prone program to go. Precision Pistol at OKC Gun Club Precision pistol, formerly known as conventional pistol, is a shooting sport in which participants shoot handguns at paper targets at fixed distances and time limits. Many organizations, including the NRA and Civilian Marksmanship Program has established rules and keep records for this sport. Emphasis is on accuracy and precision. The sport formerly called Bullseye pistol uses 25 and 50 yard targets shot one handed. This shooting discipline takes considerable training to be-come proficient. Here at our gun club we have a shooting range with 40 covered positions and turning targets at the 25-yard line. Pistols used range from a 22-caliber target pistol to a 45 acp 1911 pistol. Annually we host the CMP games in which competitors from all over the country come to compete at our wonderful facility. New shooters as well as seasoned pistol shooters can attend monthly pistol training starting the first Saturday of the month and, we have monthly approved and region-al matches. We welcome all members of the club and non-members to attend our matches. Please see the monthly activity calendar for match dates and activities. For more information please contact Mark Thomas gun club pistol division chair for more infor-mation at [email protected] or 405-615-1434.
