Replacement Female Sale – Cowtown Invitational Entries
Now is the time to make your selections for both the 48th Annual Whiteface Replacement Female Sale and Cowtown Invitational Sale. Al-though entries are not due until fall, bred heifers need to be put with bulls at this time. Invitational sale consign-ments should be identified and nomi-nated early, as only a limited number of cattle will be accepted. Note that the sale dates are Sunday, January 29, 2017. ★
Barber Ranch Donates Lot 1 Foundation Female for Mile High Night Sale
The Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) is honored to have the support of Barber Ranch, Chan-ning, TX, who will donate the Lot 1 Foundation Female to lead off the Mile High Night Sale Friday, Jan. 13 during the National Western Livestock Show in Denver, CO.
The proceeds of the Foundation Female will benefit the HYFA Grow-ing a Lasting Legacy Campaign. Since it’s inception in 2008, $645,000 has been generated through the sale of the Lot 1 female to support leadership and education.
“Barber Ranch is very proud to be supporting the Hereford Youth Foundation of America by donating BR Kate Rielle 5532 ET,” said Terri Barber, American Hereford Associa-tion Vice President and co-owner of Barber Ranch. “This female is an Au-gust-born heifer out of our Gabrielle foundation female and out of the ac-claimed Hometown bull, so she’s the best of both genetics that we’ve ever offered.”
BR Kate Rielle 5532 ET is a direct daughter of the famed BR Gabrielle 5082, who was the two-time Denver champion female, supreme champion Hereford and dam of Denver cham-pion Currency. BR Kate Rielle 5532 ET is also the granddam of the Den-ver champion Anastasia and her full brother, Aventus, who was named the 2016 Denver Supreme Champion Her-eford.
“A big thank you goes to the Bar-ber Family for digging into the heart of their program and selecting one of their best heifers to highlight the Mile High Night Sale,” said Amy Cowan, American Hereford Association direc-tor of youth activities and foundation.
BR Kate Rielle 5532 ET will sell for half interest and no possession with Barber Ranch paying for all of her show expenses.
“We feel like there is no better way to support the next generation

4 TEXAS HEREFORD • November 2016
What an incredible month of sales we have attended this past Octo-
ber. Look at the sale results of the pro-duction sales held this month in the reports listed elsewhere in this issue. Hereford cattle have held their own in these volatile times. It is very reward-ing to hear comments from some of the buyers saying that they are buying Herefords because their Hereford sired calves are out performing their calves
sired by other breeds of bulls. They are talking both higher percent calf crop as well as heavier calves at weaning. THA members should be proud of the product you are producing but never rest as we need to continue to improve the seedstock we provide to the indus-try.
I wish to single out and thank the consignors to our sixth annual Fall Classic Sale in Buffalo. The qual-
ity of our offering was the best ever even if the market was considerably softer than last year. This is an event for members of THA. We hope to grow this sale more and more each year. Please consider saving a top bull or fe-male for next years event.
Consignments are coming in nice-ly for both the Cowtown Invitational Sale and the Hereford Replacement female sale, both to be held on Sun-day, January 29, 2017. We again will have the Heritage pen of heifers (our sixteenth year). Every THA member is most grateful to the consignors of this pen as this event has been most bene-ficial to the budget of THA. We plan to provide the high placing junior heifer scholarship in the open show.
Another item of interest is that we plan to have a silent auction at our an-nual meeting and social and need a few quality items. If you have something to contribute, please notify the THA of-fice prior to the meeting. Please do so early enough to allow us to prepare a presentation for it. The meeting will be Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Bo-tanical Gardens in Fort Worth.
I urge all members to stay in touch with the officers of this organization. We have a few new projects in place and plans for many more. We welcome ideas and suggestions from members as to what they would like this organi-zation to be doing.
November is a month we should give thanks for the many blessings that have been bestowed upon us. We are truly blessed to work with Hereford cattle and the fine people associated with them. ★

Attention Juniors: $4,500 for Top Jr. in 2017 Fort Worth National Show
Funds have been committed to award $4,500 to the top placing junior heifer and $2,500 to second place ju-nior heifer that is exhibited at the Na-tional Hereford Show in Fort Worth. In addition a third and fourth scholar-ship of $1,500 each will be awarded. Exhibitor must be at the halter of his/her own heifer as well as be eligible to show in the junior show the previ-ous week. To be eligible for the junior show, the ownership must be in only the exhibitors’ name, no siblings or partners. See rule 12 on page 191 of the Fort Worth Stock Show premium book. The heifer must be eligible to show for Grand Champion (no Cow/Calf). This is an incentive to encour-age junior exhibitors to exhibit at the open show on January 30, 2017. To be eligible for the award, the exhibitor must enter the open show by the No-vember 15th deadline. The exhibitor must be a member of the Texas Junior Hereford Association.
The sponsors of this award are committed to making this an annual event and hope to grow the fund to increase the prize as well as create a special belt buckle for the event. Any-one wishing to join this effort should contact Jack Chastain at the THA of-fice. ★
