The President’s CornerWell our September meeting has come and gone along with all the fantastic food! I want to give a special thanks to all the volunteers that stepped up to help me and Louise with the setup and all the cooking! Louise knows my cooking style now and was able to direct all the helpers. We did not have as big a crowd as expected due to the threat of rain so there was lots of food left over to take home and enjoy. Those of you that came out for the meeting were introduced to the new flagpole and flag on the grounds between the firing line and the big green trailer. This was the work of Bill Heffernan and Gerry Hickey and the meeting gave the flag it's first pledge of allegiance. The turn out for the meeting was still more then was needed for a quorum, which reminds me, this past quarterly meeting makes ten straight meetings where far more then a quorum has showed up. Can any of the past administrations for OSA claim this? I think not. We cant thank you enough for your interest and support for your club! at the meeting I asked for any suggestions for any menu changes for future meetings, mainly the December meeting and the over whelming response was keep the menu the same!!! So be it! You have spoken. No photos for this newsletter, unless Feg has a few, nobody remembered to bring their cameras or cell phones or even use them for pictures this time, myself included, we will try again for the December meeting. I would liked to have had pictures of the improvements and cleanup at OSA.We have been busier then a one armed paper hanger (us old timers know what that is). Working with contractors (3) one for the rifle range, one for the mining of the lead in the berm and rebuilding of the berm, and one for all the debris that had to be hauled away.Magnum Construction is handling the rifle range and they have had delays in acquiring all the needed construction materials and a special steel plate to go over and protect the second septic tank that was found during excavation of the footer trench for the wall. The rain delays have also contributed greatly to the delay with heavy rains everyday flooding the trench and causing the trench sides to cave in in some areas. Magnum now plans to start wall construction on Monday 9/28 through Friday 10/9. A time span of two weeks. So the range will be closed again

during this period. Please bear with us, Magnum is fully aware of the inconvenience they have put the club through up to now.The second contractor, a tree service, removed all the debris from the cut down trees, the big burn pile that was oversized and according to the fire department had too much illegal burn material in it and the third pile that was created behind the little green shed have all been removed and the grounds are nice and clean again! The third contractor is for mining all the lead out of the berm and restoring the berm to it's original height because the berm has eroded considerably over the years. Once the lead has been mined out of the berm then fresh dirt will be trucked in to restore the height. The club is only going to be charged for the trucking in of needed dirt at a very reasonable cost to us. We will not incur any expense for the mining of the lead. The lead the contractor removes is what will provide the contractors profit. We are planning for the berm contractor to also be working at the same time as the rifle contractors but the berm guy has also run into delays with the company that he rents his equipment from. He has decided to invest in purchasing his own equipment so as not to get in this situation again. If for some reason he is not able to coordinate his time with the rifle range construction the berm will be postponed for another time so as not to prolong the time the range is closed. The work days that we had produced some excellent results!!! Kudos to the volunteers that braved the heat to help out with tree cutting, complete scrubbing of the restrooms, replacement of the brass catching screening under the firing line benches, this was a big job. Cleaning up of all the brass that was in the gravel and outside around the enclosed area. Complete emptying of the little green shed and reorganizing it, now it's easy to find what you are looking for in there. Reorganizing the big green connex trailer so all the categories are together now instead of scattered all over. The steel plates that are used for the steel competition as well as the plates on the plate racks were all removed and rewelded due to major cracking along the previous welds. Some plates had major splitting and could no longer be used until they were repaired. Thirty one plates in all were repaired. Jim and Nancy Crooks deserve a special thanks because they were at the range for cleanup and they left for a cruise the next day! So they had a lot to prepare for but still did more than a fair share of sweatin and only stopped long enough to enjoy a good cool sit down lunch provided by the club at Big Bobs Italian restaurant.Be sure to keep an eye on our website for any updates on construction and opening and closing dates and times along with the calendar of events. Feg does a excellent job of updating the website and calendar. USE THE WEBSITE, USE THE WEBSITE, USE THE WEBSITE.Our good friend, and Chief Range Officer, past President and longest serving board member Mike Bryant is currently in Gainesville at Shands hospital for intense chemo treatment of his cancer. If you have the time please come out to the range to sign the get well card for him and if you can please leave a donation for him. His medical bills are astronomical and anything we can do to help is greatly appreciated. Our other good friend Donna is still rehabbing her injured legs from the accident she had in Connecticut and is still not up to visitors yet so please make sure she is on your prayer list. We made sure she has a good supply of cast iron skillets to throw at hubby Bob if he doesn't move fast enough or cook good enough for her. So if you have a skillet or two to spare for Donna drop it by (just kidding) Bob does a good job of taking care of Donna.
