Duayne Malewicki is in his eleventh year as the director of the NSCC. A native of Winona, MN, Duayne graduated from Winona

State with a B.A. in Music and English in 1958 and an M.S. in Music Education in 1963. Duayne taught in Mabel, MN, Virginia,

MN, and the Osseo Area Schools (District 279)

While in Osseo, he helped organize a scholarship fund performing group called the Wastebasket Revue with teachers, administrators,

and staff in the Osseo Schools. 2014 will mark its 48th year of scholarship fund performance, with over a million dollars awarded in

scholarships.

Duayne organized and directed the District 279 Children’s Select Chorus from 1967 to his retirement in 1993. He received the

Superintendent’s Award for “Outstanding Achievement and Dedication to Education” as well as the Brooklyn Park Lions’ award for

“Citizen of the Year.” He has been named to the Minnesota Music Educators Hall of Fame. He continues to be active as a music

adjudicator for local and state music contests.

The North Suburban Concert Chorale (NSCC) performs with the North Suburban Concert Band (NSCB) annually at its Christmas

Concerts. It was originally organized in 1989 by then-NSCB-director Michael Halstenson. Bruce Phelps, Anoka H.S. choir direc-

tor, took over the baton for several years. He was followed by the current director, Duayne Malewicki.

The Chorale attracts singers, ranging from high school age to senior citizens, from church and community choirs in the north and

west suburbs. The non-auditioned group is currently limited to 118 singers. The Chorale rehearses for seven weeks prior to these

performances.

of the northern suburbs of the Twin Cities in the performance and enjoyment of music. The group strongly emphasizes quality

through its direction, musical literature and rehearsal requirements. New members are always welcome.

The North Suburban Concert Band is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Ticket sales, donations, sponsorships, membership dues and

grants fund the organization. Contributions are tax deductible and are always appreciated.

For information about the band’s upcoming schedule, visit the band website: www.nscband.org.

John Rosner is currently in his ninth season as music director of the NSCB. He is the sixth director of the NSCB and has conducted

over 100 concerts since taking the podium. John comes from central Minnesota and graduated from St. Cloud State University with

honors in Music Education with an emphasis in piano and composition in 1998.

He is currently director of bands at Elk River High School. His bands have performed in Ireland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzer-

land, Hawaii, San Diego, New York, New Orleans, Chicago, St. Louis, and around the upper Midwest. This past year, all of John’s

three contest-performing ensembles received at least one 39 out of 40 score at the Minnesota State High School League's contests.

John is newly married, and he and his wife, Abigail, are expecting their first child in March!
