you fine Catholic gentlemen. Thank you Jim Arns Sr. for a job well done! Thank you also to all of the officers and directors. Congratulations to all of the new officers. We have new directors who have stepped up to contribute their time and talent. Lee Fialek is our new Public Relations Director. He has taken over from Frank Rehberg who has done a fantastic job. Thank you Frank! Colin Schofield and John Ward are Co-Community Directors who will look for new opportunities to help those in need in our community, such as the diapers we just delivered to Heather House last month (Heather House, located at Maryville in Des Plaines, is part of Aid for Women). Mike June and Matt Chambers have stepped up to be Co-Youth Directors. We have created a new director position, Veteran Director, and Ron Willer has accepted this position. Bill O’Brien will continue as our Lecturer and also is charged with upgrading our council web site. Father Tom is continuing as our Chaplain and Steve Lundell is continuing to produce our Knightly news. See the full list of officers and directors in this newsletter. Continued on next page…
Bruce Alesi Grand Knight
Grand Knights Corner
Dear Brother Knights,
You guys are the best! We just completed our
fraternal year as the number 1 council in the
Chicago Archdiocese – for the second year in a
row. Think about that! That leaves me, your new
Grand Knight, with hard acts to follow, but I know
that all of you will come through again with your
hard work and dedication. We collected and
distributed one of the largest amounts of I. D.
funds in the state. We placed two portable
Ultrasound machines at Aid for Women facilities.
They now have three locations where Ultrasounds
can be performed. We recruited 39 new Knights
and added 12 new insurance members. We raised
funds by hosting fish fries, spaghetti dinners,
pancake breakfasts, and participated in Culvers and
Lou Malnati’s fund raisers to financially support our
parishes. We supported seminarians through the
vocations raffle. We supported the Food Bank,
Coats for Kids, and Feed My Starving Children. We
ran the Easter egg hunt, free throw contest, essay
contest and provided high school scholarships. We
ran blood drives, participated in Eucharistic
Adoration and helped our parishes by being ushers,
Eucharistic Ministers, and choir members. And
that does not cover it all. It is an honor to know
Thank you Jim Arns Sr. for a job well done! Thank
you also to all of the officers and directors.
Congratulations to all of the new officers. We have

Lead Me, Guide Me, Lord
Chaplain’s Corner
The month of July brings us a patriotic holiday, the hot weather, and maybe some time to relax and vacation a little. So will you take advantage of this possible slow down time?? And will you spend more time relaxing with your family and with your friends?? And will you also spend more time with the Lord in prayer - thanking Him for these wonderful opportunities of fun and frivolity?? Will you thank Him in prayer for all that is a part of your life?? After all, everything you have is truly a gift from God. And everything you do with what you have is your gift back to God. And one of the reasons you can do so much is because you live in these wonderful United States of America. Don't ever forget that. And don't forget to pray in thanksgiving for all of our veterans who fought for our freedoms. And pray for all of our Military personnel who continue to keep us free. I invite you to pray frequently the following prayer:
"Father of all nations and ages, we recall the day when our country claimed its place among the
family of nations; for what has been achieved we give you thanks, for the work that still remains we
ask your help, and as you have called us from many peoples to become one nation, grant that, under your Divine Providence, our country may share your blessings with all the peoples of the earth -
forever and ever, AMEN. Happy July to all of you. May it be a freeing month for you!!! Rev. Thomas R. Rzepiela, Pastor

Something to Think About this July Shared from the Book:
Reflections from Pope Francis
An invitation to Journaling, Prayer, and Action
41. Build A New World Bringing the Gospel is bringing God’s power to pluck up and break down evil and violence, to
destroy and overthrow the barriers of selfishness, intolerance, and hatred, so as to build a new world. Dear young friends, Jesus Christ is counting on you!
The Church is counting on you! The Pope is counting on you!
Insurance as part of your financial plan? In a word, YES! By Pierre Zermatten - your Council's Field Agent When most people think of a financial plan, they think of savings, of 401k plans, or picture stocks, bonds and mutual funds. Insurance often gets lost in the shuffle or dismissed. But maybe it's time to take another look. Life insurance can be a safe and some would even say essential part of any financial plan. There are several advantages to including insurance in your financial plan - with very little risk. But remember, insurance policies are not one size fits all. Here's a look at how you can benefit from adding a permanent life insurance policy to your mix. Protection. Just like the name implies, permanent life insurance is a policy that will last your entire life as long as you continue to pay the premiums - even if your health takes a turn for the worse. Like any life insurance, it will protect the financial future of your spouse and dependents by paying them a benefit when you die. But how does permanent life insurance help your finances? It's a safe choice. Permanent life insurance isn't affected by market losses like stocks and mutual funds. Provided that you pay your premiums as outlined in the contract, permanent life insurance guarantees that your money will grow over time - no matter what's going on in the stock market. Cash Value. Permanent life insurance policies offer one other important feature-cash value. This value accumulates over the course of the policy and can be used by you. People often use their policy's cash value to pay for college, a housing down payment or other major expenses. You have access- at any time. Unlike other retirement accounts such as a 401k or IRA, a whole life policy gives you the option of accessing your money with no early withdrawal penalty. It's your money; it's up to you.
Dividends. Dividends-while never guaranteed-are an important way that companies like the KofC share their success with our policyholders. Those who purchase permanent life insurance contracts can, by vote of the Board of Directors, receive a partial return of their premiums. These are called dividends. Once declared, the insured has a number of options for using those dividends that can add value-and even more insurance- to their existing policy. Please call me if you have any questions or would like to sit down for a no cost review. Insurance is my business, but my focus is you. Fraternally yours,
Pierre Zermatten
It’s time… for some
summertime grilling!

Knights of Columbus March in the
Palatine 4th of July Parade
As is our annual tradition, the Holy Ghost Council #4977 Knights of Columbus participated in the 2017 Palatine Hometown Fest Parade on Saturday, July 1st. Proudly representing our Order were seven of our finest 4th degree Sir Knights. Our very recognizable Knights of Columbus Color Guard looked sharp in their tuxes and regalia. Sir Knights wear regalia and carry the sword to honor Christ and His apostles. At parades and other civic occasions, the Color Guard proudly demonstrates the Knights of Columbus’ active citizenship and helps foster a spirit of patriotism in its members and the community at large. THANK YOU SIR KNIGHTS!!! Importantly – a SPECIAL THANKS to the fourteen Brothers and family members who distributed delicious Tootsie Rolls to the enthusiastic youngsters (and more than a few adults)! Good news! We were able to get all the way to the end of the parade route and still had a few Tootsie Rolls left over! Everyone had a chance for the sweet treats! Nice weather helped make this event even more enjoyable for all.
