PART 7a: CALLING ON THE NAME

It seemed fitting to close this study out by focusing on the well-known verse, “Whoever calls on the Name of the Lord shall be saved,” but first, let’s look at how the Scriptures talk about calling on the Name. We’ll begin by looking at the first mention of calling on the Name of Yehovah as found in Genesis 4:26.

Genesis 4:25-26 And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth, “For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.” 26 And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on the name of the Lord.

The literal translation of this last sentence actually reads:

Genesus 4:26b (Green’s Literal Translation) Then it was begun to call on the name of Jehovah.

The word “men” isn’t actually in the Hebrew text. Here is the literal translation of this sentence alongside the five Hebrew words.

Then began to call on (or in) the name of Yehovah

ahz hoochal leeqro b’shem Yehovah זא לחוה ארקל םשב הוהי

Let’s begin by looking at the Hebrew words translated as “to call” (Leeqro) and “on the Name” (B’shem.) The Hebrew word “call” is pronounced “Qara” and is spelled like this ארק . When the

Hebrew letter Lamed ל is added to the front of a word, it makes it say “to,” so the word “Leeqro” ארקל means “to call.” This Hebrew word “call” is defined as follows:

Qara (Strong’s Hebrew 7121) – a primitive root. To call out to (that is, properly address by name, but used in a wide variety of application): -bewray [self], that are bidden, call (for, forth, self, upon), cry (unto), (be) famous, guest, invite, mention, (give) name, preach, (make) proclaim (-ation), pronounce, publish, read, renowned, say.

As you can see, this word has a variety of applications, including preaching and proclaiming. The word “B’shem” is translated as “on the Name.” We’ve discussed how the Hebrew word for name is “Shem” םש . Here we see the letter Beyt ב is added to the front of the word “Shem” which makes it say “in” or “on.” The word “B’Shem” םשב can mean “in the Name” or “on the Name.” Previously, we’ve talked about how Yehovah proclaimed His Name to Moses prior to giving Moses the Ten Words for the second time. However, what we didn’t discuss is how that phrase is written in Hebrew. Let’s take another look at that exchange.

Exodus 33:19 Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim (Qara) the name (B’shem) of the Lord (Yehovah) before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”

Exodus 34:5-7 Now the Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed (Qara) the name (B’shem) of the Lord (Yehovah.) 6 And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed (Qara), “The Lord (Yehovah), the Lord God (Yehovah El), merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, 7 keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.”

Did you catch how the Hebrew reveals that Yehovah said that He would proclaim or call “in” or “on” the Name of Yehovah? Here we see a demonstration of how Yehovah Himself called “in” His Own Name, and He did so by proclaiming Who He is. Therefore, it stands to reason that we who call in or on His Name, must also do so by proclaiming Who He is. We’ll talk more about this in a later section. Keeping these things in mind, let’s go back now and look at the context surrounding this first mention of calling on the Name of Yehovah in Genesis 4:26. Previously in this chapter we learned about Cain’s unrepentant sin of murdering his own brother Abel. Yehovah, knowing what was in his heart, appealed to Cain not to allow sin to overtake him, but sadly, that is exactly what happened to Cain. Cain allowed sin to enter into his heart and his wicked desires overtook him.

Genesis 4:6-8

Page 3: THE NAME PART 7A CALLING ON THE NAME · 2020. 8. 23. · 1 THE NAME Published by Sowing the Word of God – August 15, 2020 PART 7a: CALLING ON THE NAME It seemed fitting to close

So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” 8 Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.

Cain refused the correction of Yehovah and rose up against his righteous brother Abel in the field and murdered him. This was the beginning of a long line of enmity that would exist between the righteous seed of God being persecuted and even murdered by the unrighteous seed of the serpent.

Genesis 3:14-15 So the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life. 15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.” Matthew 23:32-39 “Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers’ guilt. 33 Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell? 34 Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city, 35 that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. 36 Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation. 37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! 38 See! Your house is left to you desolate; 39 for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ”

We know that Yehoshua and His Words are likened to a Seed which we must receive into our hearts and minds in order to believe and find life.

Luke 8:11-12 “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.”

James 1:21-22 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

We’ve also talked about how Satan is a counterfeiter with doctrine and words of His own. In the Scriptures, we read that it was Satan who entered Judas and placed it in his heart to betray the Most Righteous One, Yehoshua Messiah, delivering Him up to be killed. Satan’s word entered into Judas’s heart much like an implanted seed of his very own.

Luke 22:2-6 And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might kill Him, for they feared the people. 3 Then Satan entered Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered among the twelve. 4 So he went his way and conferred with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray Him to them. 5 And they were glad, and agreed to give him money. 6 So he promised and sought opportunity to betray Him to them in the absence of the multitude.

John 13:2, 26-30 2 And supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him. 26 Jesus answered, “It is he to whom I shall give a piece of bread when I have dipped it.” And having dipped the bread, He gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. 27 Now after the piece of bread, Satan entered him. Then Jesus said to him, “What you do, do quickly.” 28 But no one at the table knew for what reason He said this to him. 29 For some thought, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus had said to him, “Buy those things we need for the feast,” or that he should give something to the poor. 30 Having received the piece of bread, he then went out immediately. And it was night.

Make note of how Judas “went out” from the presence of Yehoshua and that it was night. In other words, he went away from Yehoshua and walked in darkness. It is no stretch to say that, spiritually speaking, the lawless one entered Cain’s heart in the same way that he entered Judas—like an implanted seed sown by the enemy.

Matthew 13:24-28, 37-39 Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; 25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. 26 But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. 27 So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ 28 He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’”

Page 5: THE NAME PART 7A CALLING ON THE NAME · 2020. 8. 23. · 1 THE NAME Published by Sowing the Word of God – August 15, 2020 PART 7a: CALLING ON THE NAME It seemed fitting to close

37 He answered and said to them: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one. 39 The enemy who sowed them is the devil…”

Instead of receiving the good Seed of God’s Word, both Cain and Judas allowed the seed sown by the wicked one to take root in them, and the desires of their father the devil they also desired to do. Yehovah told the serpent that his head would be crushed by the Righteous Seed, but the serpent rebelled against Yehovah’s word by attempting to extinguish the Righteous Seed instead by killing righteous Abel. The desire of the Devil and his seed is to rise up against the Good Seeds in the field of the world and kill them, and they will do so because the Seed of God’s Word has found no place within their hearts.

John 6:70-71 Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?” 71 He spoke of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, for it was he who would betray Him, being one of the twelve.

John 8:37-44 “I know that you are Abraham’s descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you. 38 I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father.” 39 They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham. 40 But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this. 41 You do the deeds of your father.” Then they said to Him, “We were not born of fornication; we have one Father—God.” 42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. 43 Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. 44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”

Like Cain, these all had the power and authority to rule over this evil desire, but instead they allowed that evil desire to bear its fruit, becoming action. God’s Word is the truth and the Seed that Yehoshua came to deliver to our hearts, and we must allow His good desire to bear its fruit, becoming action. The Devil is called the father of lies and the lawless one because there is no Word in him. He is the Wordless One, the father of lies, darkness, and deception. Darkness is the absence of light, just as lawlessness is the absence of Law. The children of Yehoshua will follow after Him in the way of light and life, just as the children of the Devil will follow after him in the way of darkness and death.

1 John 1:5-10 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light

as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

Proverbs 2 My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, 2 So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; 3 Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, 4 If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; 5 Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God. 6 For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding; 7 He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; 8 He guards the paths of justice, And preserves the way of His saints. 9 Then you will understand righteousness and justice, Equity and every good path. 10 When wisdom enters your heart, And knowledge is pleasant to your soul, 11 Discretion will preserve you; Understanding will keep you, 12 To deliver you from the way of evil, From the man who speaks perverse things, 13 From those who leave the paths of uprightness To walk in the ways of darkness; 14 Who rejoice in doing evil, And delight in the perversity of the wicked; 15 Whose ways are crooked, And who are devious in their paths; 16 To deliver you from the immoral woman, From the seductress who flatters with her words, 17 Who forsakes the companion of her youth, And forgets the covenant of her God. 18 For her house leads down to death, And her paths to the dead; 19 None who go to her return, Nor do they regain the paths of life— 20 So you may walk in the way of goodness,

And keep to the paths of righteousness. 21 For the upright will dwell in the land, And the blameless will remain in it; 22 But the wicked will be cut off from the earth, And the unfaithful will be uprooted from it.

Much like Judas went out from the presence of Yehoshua in the darkness of night, we’re told that Cain also went out from the Face of Yehovah after murdering Abel.

Genesis 4:16-17 (NLV) Then Cain went away from the face of the Lord, and stayed in the land of Nod, east of Eden. 17 Cain lay with his wife and she was going to have a child and she gave birth to Enoch. Cain built a city and gave it the name of Enoch, the name of his son.

Going out and away from the Face of God is to turn to darkness instead of the light. As we’ve discussed, to walk away from God is to walk in sin or opposition to God, and we know that sin is lawlessness. Repentance is to have a change of heart by turning away from our lawless ways and turning back to walk in the way of life and toward the Light of the Face of the living God. When the priests place His Name upon the people they say, “May His Face shine upon you.” May we walk toward His Face, may He grant us repentance so that we may turn from darkness and come to know Him and His will for us.

2 Timothy 2:24-26 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

2 Corinthians 4:2-6 But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. 3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. 5 For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Being granted repentance and knowing the truth indicates that we are no longer walking in rebellion or opposition to God and His Word. When we walk toward Him in the way of righteousness, His Face and His Light is shining upon us and directing our steps in the Way of Truth through His Word, which acts as a lamp unto our feet and a light to guide our path.

Psalm 119:101-105, 126-136, 142

I have restrained my feet from every evil way, That I may keep Your word. 102 I have not departed from Your judgments, For You Yourself have taught me. 103 How sweet are Your words to my taste, Sweeter than honey to my mouth! 104 Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way. 105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. 126 It is time for You to act, O Lord, For they have regarded Your law (Torah) as void. 127 Therefore I love Your commandments More than gold, yes, than fine gold! 128 Therefore all Your precepts concerning all things I consider to be right; I hate every false way. 129 Your testimonies are wonderful; Therefore my soul keeps them. 130 The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple. 131 I opened my mouth and panted, For I longed for Your commandments. 132 Look upon me and be merciful to me, As Your custom is toward those who love Your name. 133 Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me. 134 Redeem me from the oppression of man, That I may keep Your precepts. 135 Make Your face shine upon Your servant, And teach me Your statutes. 136 Rivers of water run down from my eyes, Because men do not keep Your law (Torah). 142 Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, And Your law (Torah) is truth.

There is no Law and, therefore, no truth in the father of lies. If we deny and reject the Torah of truth, then we agree with the lawless one.

Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?

When we walk away from God through continuing in unrepentant sin and rejection of His righteous Words, we are doing the will and desire of the lawless one, following after him in the

darkness of night much like Judas did on the darkest of nights when he betrayed the Author of Life.

1 Thessalonians 5:4-5 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.

Just as Yehovah tried to appeal to Cain to rule over the evil inclination, so does He appeal to us to turn our sin and calling upon the blood of the Lamb for our forgiveness and strength that we may return to Him and do good.

Malachi 3:6-7a “For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob. 7 Yet from the days of your fathers You have gone away from My ordinances And have not kept them. Return to Me, and I will return to you,” Says the Lord of hosts.

Zechariah 1:2-4 “The Lord has been very angry with your fathers. 3 Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Return to Me,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I will return to you,” says the Lord of hosts. 4 “Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets preached, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Turn now from your evil ways and your evil deeds.” ’ But they did not hear nor heed Me,” says the Lord.

Cain certainly may have whined and complained about his punishment, but never did he confess his sins or turn from them, and the fact that we’re told that he went out from the Face of Yehovah attests to this. Cain’s punishment was that he would be a fugitive and a vagabond (a traveler or wanderer) in the earth. Like the serpent, Cain continues to show his rebelliousness in the face of this word from God as Genesis 4:17 states that he sought to establish himself by building a city for himself, and not for God, calling it by the name of his own firstborn son. Recall that Judas’s surname is Iscariot, which means “Man of Cities” in Hebrew. It could be said that Cain was the first in a long line of Iscariots (Men of Cities); prideful people who seek to establish themselves by building cities and names for themselves. In Genesis 4:17-24, we’re given a list of Cain’s descendants after him and their deeds. They built cities, married multiple wives, made weapons and instruments, and even boasted about committing murder. Then, after Cain’s descendants and their deeds are relayed, the text suddenly comes back to Adam in verse 25 and to the righteous seed-line beginning now with Seth, of whom Eve says, God appointed to her in place of righteous Abel whom Cain killed. In regards to this bloodline, we are not told about the works of their hands, or the things they themselves said or did. We are simply told that it was then that it was begun to call on the name of Yehovah.

10

Now, there is some question in regards to this short sentence in Genesis 4:26, “Then it was begun to call on the name of Yehovah.” The word translated as “began” is predominatly identified as the Hebrew word “Chalal,” which is defined it as follows.

Chalal לַלָח (Strong’s H2490) – a primitive root (compare H2470); also denominative (from H2485) properly, to bore, i.e. (by implication) to wound, to dissolve; figuratively, to profane (a person, place or thing), to break (one's word), to begin (as if by an 'opening wedge'); to play (the flute):—begin (× men began), defile, × break, defile, × eat (as common things), × first, × gather the grape thereof, × take inheritance, pipe, player on instruments, pollute, (cast as) profane (self), prostitute, slay (slain), sorrow, stain, wound.

There are approximately 141 occurrences of some form of this word “Chalal,” and around 54 of those occurrences are translated as some form of “begin.” As you can see, this word most often holds meanings such as, to defile, profane, or pollute, so naturally some speculate that this verse could actually be teaching us that this is not when men began to call on the Name, but rather when they began to profane the Name of Yehovah. If this were the case, then that would render the literal translation something like, “Then profaned to call on the name of Yehovah,” which isn’t grammatically sound. It also could be argued that profaning His holy Name did not begin here Genesis 4:26, but it began in the garden when God’s people first transgressed the command of God and sin entered in. For Yehovah says:

Leviticus 22:31-32 “Therefore you shall keep My commandments, and perform them: I am the Lord. 32 You shall not profane (Chalal) My holy name, but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel.”

For time sake I will not be going into all the details as to why I do not believe this word in Genesis 4:26 means “to profane.” In short, the Hebrew word translated as “began” here is not the root word לַלָח “Chalal” but the word לַ֔חּוה “Hoochal.” Interestingly, Genesis 4:26 is actually the only place this word “Hoochal” is used with this spelling within the Hebrew Scriptures. With some research, we can learn that “Hoochal” means “to be started,” “to be implemented,” or “to be begun.” We also must not discount the importance of how context informs the meaning of the sentence, “Then it was begun to call on the name of Yehovah.” As discussed, the context of verses 17-24 listed the lineage of Cain the murderer along with some of their prideful, unrepentant behaviors, and then verses 25-26 turn their focus toward Adam and to his lineage through Seth. The text then begins to teach us of the bloodline through Adam, through which the prophesied Seed Who would crush the head of the serpent and his seed would come. Through this bloodline Luke 3:23-38 traces our Messiah’s descendants all the way back to Seth and Adam, who is called “the son of God.”

Luke 3:38 …the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

What I am proposing, is that this is pointing us to the beginning of the “Good Seed” and the Sons of God who began to proclaim the Name of Yehovah. This is not to say that all good seed come

Page 11: THE NAME PART 7A CALLING ON THE NAME · 2020. 8. 23. · 1 THE NAME Published by Sowing the Word of God – August 15, 2020 PART 7a: CALLING ON THE NAME It seemed fitting to close

11

from this lineage, as we’ve already discussed, to be born of God is not to be born according to the flesh seed, but through the Spiritual Seed of God’s Word. We who call upon His Name must have a heart’s desire to do His will. Yehoshua said in regards to those who follow after the Devil, that the desires of their father they want to do. Similarly, if we have truly been born of the Spirit through the Righteous Seed above, then the desires of our Father in heaven we will want to do. Yehoshua said, if Abraham were our father, then we would do the works of Abraham. If we are of the same Seed of Abraham, then we will produce the same righteous works that Abraham did. We know that our father Abraham called upon the Name of Yehovah and, like our Messiah, his works were the works of God’s Words.

Genesis 26:4-5 “And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; 5 because Abraham obeyed (Shema) My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws (Torah).”

I believe that this marked the beginning of a repentance, and of a righteous few who began to teach their children to turn from sin and call on, or in, the Name of Yehovah, keeping His commandments.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.”

There has always been a remnant who teach their children the Torah of God and about placing their hope in Him. The Torah didn’t begin at Mount Sinai. We know this to be true because prior to this, Abel knew what kind of offering would be pleasing to Yehovah. Noah knew the difference between clean and unclean, and Abraham obeyed the Torah. Genesis 4:26 is pointing us to the beginning of all of these things— to the beginning of a people who in their fallen state do not place their hope in men, but call on the Name of Yehovah. In fact, the Septuagint (the ancient Greek translation of the Old Testament) translates this sentence in Genesis 4:26 as follows: “And Seth had a son, and he called his name Enos: he hoped to call on the name of the Lord God.” Henceforth we see confirmation, not of the wicked calling on the Name of Yehovah, but of the righteous, such as Abraham, Isaac, Moses, Elijah, and David— righteous men who called on the Name of Yehovah. Here are a few examples.

Genesis 12:7-8 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” And there he built an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him. 8 And he moved from

there to the mountain east of Bethel, and he pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.

Genesis 26:24-25 And the Lord appeared to him [Isaac] the same night and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham; do not fear, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your descendants for My servant Abraham’s sake.” 25 So he built an altar there and called on the name of the Lord, and he pitched his tent there; and there Isaac’s servants dug a well.

1 Kings 18:22-24 Then Elijah said to the people, “I alone am left a prophet of the Lord; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men. 23 Therefore let them give us two bulls; and let them choose one bull for themselves, cut it in pieces, and lay it on the wood, but put no fire under it; and I will prepare the other bull, and lay it on the wood, but put no fire under it. 24 Then you call on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord; and the God who answers by fire, He is God.”

1 Samuel 17:45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord (Yehovah) of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”

The same gospel message is given to you and I who have been reborn of the Righteous Seed from above, just as it was given to our fathers before us. Turn and be cleansed of your sin by the washing of water by the Word of God through our Lord and Savior Yehoshua, be baptized in the Holy Name, doing righteous commands, making disciples, and calling on the Name of the Lord.

Ephesians 5:25-27 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Acts 22:16 “And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:2-3

To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours: 3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

This concludes part 7a of our study. Join us next time where we apply all of this as we look more closely at the meaning and context behind the Scripture, “Whoever calls on the Name of the Lord shall be saved.” Shalom.
