The Music Box is designed with incredible attention to detail,
from the outside in. Note the contemporary glass exteriors, sitting
atop the glazed white brickwork base, with hints of musical notes
running along its façade. Step into the private residents’ entrance
to witness a fusion of traditional wood styles and carefully
considered glass and metal finishes. The lobby and communal
corridors carefully reference music throughout, keeping the
musical inspiration of this unique development alive.
The apartments themselves have to be seen to be believed.

light and finished to an enviable level.

oak timber flooring, a compliment to the polished,
modern ambience of these exceptional apartments.
Natural light filters into each room, enlivening the
spacious living area and offering stunning London
views from many apartments. Discreet and stylish
recessed LED downlights add sophistication and class,
while luxurious carpeting allows for that extra
comfort and indulgence.
Your home will also benefit from fully fitted kitchens,
using only the leading appliances. Unique to
The Music Box is the inclusion of winter gardens,
a rare bonus to enjoy. This truly represents the finest

of riverside entertainment. Culture lovers
flock to the Hayward Gallery, Royal Festival
Hall, the BFI and the National Theatre.
Browse the book market tucked under
Waterloo Bridge or enjoy the outdoor action
of street performers, skilful skaters and
singing buskers that jostle along Queen’s
Walk. You may also catch a temporary
public art display or pop up food event which
continue to delight visitors to the area. If
you’re still around after dark you’ll see the

The Music Box is within strolling distance of some of London’s
finest food options, including Borough Market, known as
‘London’s Larder’ for good reason. Having recently undergone
a modern refurbishment and extension, it is a gastronomic
dream, offering up an abundance of fresh produce, from cured
ham and garlic sausages from Brindisa to artisan cheeses,
a speciality of Neal’s Yard, through to the individual market
stalls offering cuisine from around the world. Enjoy grilled
Orkney kippers with buttery lemon at Roast’s restaurant
or pick up a hot duck confit roll and eat it next door alfresco
in the pretty grounds of Southwark’s 600AD cathedral.

Southwark’s friendly neighbourhood is a
wonderfully eclectic mix. Head out of The Music
Box in any direction and you’ll see historical
curiosities, cultural wonders and modern icons
sitting happily side-by-side. The only problem
is not how to fill a day but how to fit so much
in, so here are a few of our recommendations…
1.00pm After exploring some of the boutique shops on Bermondsey Street stroll to Borough Market where you can pick up some local food from the many market stalls or fresh coffee at the famous Monmouth Coffee Shop.
5.00pm Just a few minutes further down the river is the diverse Southbank – full of everything from street performers, exhibitions and independent shops, as well as temporary art installations and pop up restaurants. Be sure to check out the Southbank Centre and National Theatre, which regularly present art events.
9.30pm Take a short walk down to the UnionStreet Café. This beautiful Gordon Ramsayrestaurant is a great place for dinner, and the fresh Italian menu is updated daily.
6.30pm To get away from the hustle and bustle, Lower Marsh Market is a short walk away through the beautiful Jubilee Gardens. This hidden gem is full of boutique shops, cafés, specialist book and contemporary art stores.
7.30pm Before dinner make sure you check out what’s on at The Old Vic, its world famous productions are not to be missed, with performances drawing some of the finest acting talent the world has to offer to the stage.
2.30pm Head towards the river to the popular Tate Modern gallery, or check to see if you can get tickets for a Shakespeare play at The Globe Theatre.
11.30am Just down the road is The White Cube, a contemporary art gallery that has previously exhibited work ranging from Antony Gormley to Damien Hirst. The gallery often hosts artists’ films, feature films and lectures so why not pop in and see what is going on.
10.00am Our day starts with a short walk past London Bridge to The Garrison Public House on Bermondsey Street for a hearty breakfast. Make sure you try the Orkney streaky bacon, it’s their speciality.
Your new home location of Southwark opens up a world of
opportunity when it comes to retail, ranging from the well known
to the understated boutique and unique.
You could be in Shoreditch in under 20 minutes with its selection
of independent boutique fashion stores, such as A.P.C. or Aimé,
the latter showcasing the best in French fashion design. You will
also find the unique pop up mall Boxpark, offering a range of
independent and well-known clothing outlets, as well as lifestyle
accessories, art pieces and restaurants.
From Shoreditch you can then head to world famous Spitalfields,
London’s oldest market. This covers a real eclectic mix of retail
opportunities, including permanent well known stores mingling with
highly regarded boutique shops, all surrounding the main market.
The Saturday Style market offers original clothing, accessories
and homewares from up to 60 independent designers, whereas
the daily Traders’ Market has up to 110 stalls offering vintage and
contemporary fashion, jewellery and music to name but a few.
Covent Garden, formerly a large fruit and vegetable market,
is now home to some of the most sought after names around,
such as Jo Malone, Kurt Geiger and Karen Millen. The area
seamlessly fuses high end retail with an abundance of places
to eat and drink as well as crowd-drawing street performers.
No retail therapy is complete without a visit to Oxford Street.
Stretching over one and a half miles, Oxford Street is teeming
with some of the biggest brands in the world, including the
flagship store of Selfridges. Finally, a visit to Liberty is always
worthwhile. Founded in 1875, this offers the finest designer
fabrics, fashion, home furnishings and gifts.

this research-led university play a major role in many scientific
and medical advances, including the discovery of DNA structure
and the development of mobile phones. Pioneering research by
King’s continues to shape how we live today.
A short walk away is the much-respected London Southbank
University, a cosmopolitan learning establishment currently with
more than 25,000 students from 130 different countries. Latest
exciting developments at LSBU include a £13.5m renovation
project which will deliver a new enterprise centre providing startup

From the outset, The Music Box has been conceived to be an exemplar
of energy efficiency and sustainable design through the exterior detailing
and choice of materials. The architectural composition is designed using
modern interpretations of traditional materials, window hierarchy and
features that will add diversity to this landmark development.
From the earliest stages of conception, practitioners from all musical
and academic disciplines have influenced the design of the building both
internally and externally. Creating a new home for the LCCM, this unique
creative environment welcomes artistic and intellectual exploration in
order to advance the whole art of music that seamlessly cohabits with
the highest quality of the building both internally and externally.
The Golden Ratio defines a classical formula in architecture to create
perfect harmony and proportion. The scheme design has been inspired
by the purity of music as an art form with the strong geometric shape
of the apartments being derived from a pure architectonic proportion
defined by the Golden Ratio.

Above the distinctive base, a series of delicate white textured spines take
their inspirations from the strings of a chordophone instrument, such as
a piano or harp. These provide the architecture a sense of solidity, leaving
the interiors with the feeling of openness through full height windows.
The simplicity of the architectural composition, its civic scale and its
height and mass achieve the buildings way-finding urban legibility
and landmark status.
The Music Box is centred on the design philosophy of systems
of harmony and proportion. It embraces the creative and intuitive
link between music and architecture through a reinvention of
appearance of the building when experienced in varying views.
Through the geometric layout of the upper exterior and the
projecting vertical angled spines, the visual appearance of the
building when viewed in oblique or direct views will continually
change from a light defused vertical form to a solid pure form,
referencing the ever-changing movement and variety
in contemporary music.
The carefully considered design principles have ensured The Music
Box is a sustainable and energy efficient building, exceeding
the statutory and Greater London authority carbon reduction
requirements. With centralised combined head and power system at
the heart of The Music Box, this produces low carbon electricity on
site. The building façade has been developed with solar fins to keep
the residences cool during the summer with air source heat pumps, a
renewable technology, to provide comfort cooling where applicable.
The distinctive and pure architectonic form of The Music Box is
created from two building elements, which define the uses of the
building. The strong base adopts a white ceramic brick with
a textured three-dimensional bond to create a relief to the surfaces
and a distinctive rhythm. The music from White Room by Cream
is referenced in the detailing on the outside; a nod towards the
punched metal that plays the tune in a music box.
