Publishing is not a business for the faint of heart! It comes with its own set of challenges and

moral dilemmas. It forces you to make awkward decisions about fairness and suitability —

who's story you include and who's you have to leave out because you just do not have the

space or you don't think it's right for this edition. It's subjective of course, and it's hard to put

aside your own beliefs and preferences for what may be important for others. We hope we

have a fair record in this regard.

In publishing, the devil is in the detail. During the course of putting together an edition

you deal with so many people, wanting so many things, and wanting them exactly how they

like it. Then you have your constraints of space and time, and working out just how to distil all

these disparate things into a harmonious whole — and making it look good while pleasing

everybody. There are so many opportunities for mistakes and misjudgments that it is inevitable

you will be caught out by one of them. I have realised that this is just the nature of the business.

You have to devise ways to minimise them, learn to deal with them diplomatically when they

happen and carry on in the belief that you are doing the best job you can and it is well nigh

impossible to be perfect, even though that is what you aim for.

There is a certain permanence and presence about a printed publication which you

do not get from electronic media. Once a piece is committed to paper and distributed, it

remains very visible and there is nothing you can do to change it. This forces you to think very

carefully about what you put out there and makes you a little obsessive about rechecking.

We have had the odd comment from readers that our text font can be a little difficult

to read at night. We are looking into this and would appreciate any comments from either

viewpoint. Enjoy the edition!

The inclusion of a Voetstoots clause in an Offer to Purchase for immovable property means that the property is purchased as it stands, with any defects that may exist at the time of the sale.The purchaser effectively exempts the seller from any liability for defects provided that the seller had no knowledge of the latent defect (one that was not visible at the time). If the purchaser is able to prove that the seller was aware or could reasonably

have been aware of the defect the seller could not rely on the Voetstoots clause for protection.

Although the Consumer Protection Act only applies to transactions that are concluded in the ordinary course of business, which does not normally include once-off transactions between buyers and sellers, (unless they are developers or investors), the Estate Agency Affairs Board has, in the light of the drive towards consumer protection, issued guidelines for Estate Agents when taking on the mandate to sell. Agents are now required to obtain from the seller a signed Immovable Property Condition Report in which the owner discloses that he/she is not aware of defects in roof structures, foundations, flooding and damp, electrical systems, plumbing and gas installation, swimming pools and boundary line disputes.

In addition to the above the most common issue that Agents have to deal with is that of building alterations and improvements which have been completed without approved plans or permission from the City Council. It is in the interest of all sellers before they start marketing their properties to ensure that all structures are legal and approved and that copies of such plans be available for viewing by a potential buyer. We would also suggest that buyers request confirmation thereof by ensuring that there are clauses in the sale agreement which protect them and that the seller has signed the Immovable Property Condition Report provided to them by Estate Agents.Should you need a free valuation or if you are considering selling please do not hesitate to contact me or my agents on [email protected] or 082 807 0633.

You cannot alter or demolish any structure, or part of it, which is older than 60 years without a permit from the relevant heritage authority. In terms of a 1999 Act, The South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) was established to guide the conservation of our heritage resources so that they may be bequeathed to future generations.

As large parts of Pinelands are older than 60 years, homeowners must be careful not to make any changes to their properties without the appropriate planning permission from SAHRA. It is incumbent upon Estate Agents to explain to buyers when purchasing property that it may be subject to this restriction which could limit the buyer’s future development plans.

A case in point is the old Pinelands Police Station, currently on the market, which would definitely be subject to this planning permission.

We learn so that we might serve. In 2010 Pinehurst Primary decided to partner with Mseki primary school in Gugulethu. The PTA visited the school and met with the staff to see what was needed. They did not have a library and a very limited amount of story books. After a book drive at Pinehurst school it was possible to start a library at Mseki Primary in their store room. The ideal was a container or wendy house so that learners could access the library during breaks. Pinehurst also donated a soccer kit to the Mseki under 13 boys and the highlight for both schools was a soccer match between the two schools. The goalkeeper, Zuko Menzela from Mseki was scouted by a Pinelands Soccer club for whom he will be playing.In 2011 Pinehurst gave Mseki school new stationary to start the year, and three of the learners went to plant fourteen yellow wood and monkey thorn trees to celebrate Arbour Month. Pinehurst staff has also been meeting with the staff from Mseki and mentoring them for the past two years.

Purity has announced the launch of their new Purity Goodies Rusks and Biscotti products carefully hand pressed and baked by the women of the khayelitsha cookie company (kcc) as part of an Enterprise Development Partnership with Tigerbrands ltd. This Enterprise Development Programme (EDP)forms part of Tiger Brands’ black economic empowerment approach and is meant to promote and support black owned SMME’s allowing them to grow and contribute to the overall development of the community.

According to Adri Williams, Sales Manager at kcc “The factory began in June 2004 when khayelitsha cookies started baking in 2 ovens in the nobantu Women’s centre in khayelitsha”. Since then the company has grown to 40 women baking delicious cookies and rusks with the same excellence and attention to detail. Six years later, khayelitsha cookies approached Tiger Brands with a request to be considered for inclusion in the company’s EDP programme. After careful consideration of the project, Tiger Brands agreed to enter into a partnership with kcc. “We have invested a substantial amount to enable khayelitsha cookies to upgrade their factory and order new equipment which will

be used for Purity baking. More than money, has been the assistance on goods procurement, technical advice and input and m a n u f a c t u r i n g skills. This will help ensure optimum productivity and sustained quality”, said Bongiwe njobe, Group Executive corporate Sustainability, Tiger Brands.

The vision shared by Purity and kcc is to create a company that produces the best cookies in South Africa while also radically changing the lives of the women involved in the company. kcc has excellent hygiene and hAccP records in line with Tiger Brands' policy. “We want the best range of baked biscuits for our consumers, and every opportunity for significant growth and career expansion for the staff of kcc “ said Amanda Ewen, category Executive Baby care, Tiger Brands.

The women who were previously unemployed are now ready for full time employment. They also have an opportunity to own a 30% stake in the company through

a trust fund which is targeted to grow to 50%, which will start benefiting them individually once the company is profitable. More importantly the salary these ladies earn will enable them to support their community.

Each of the ladies working for khayelitsha cookies feeds a family of 5 on average per month using their income. Purity’s partnership allows kcc to employ an additional 45 women with a secure income. These 45 women can each then feed another 100-150 people.

first Pinelands Resident: ninety years ago, on Saturday 11th February 1922 the first Pinelands resident, Garth cox, moved into 3 Meadway. This event was celebrated by a full page article in the cape Argus.Spanish Influenza epidemic: The concept of creating this new development started four years earlier as a result of the Spanish Influenza Epidemic in 1918 and the housing legislation that followed it.

In cape Town, the epidemic claimed over 6342 lives while a further 116 378 non-fatal cases were reported. As the total population was only 199 570 this meant that two out of every three residents were affected. Overcrowding and poor housing was a major factor in the spread of the epidemic. In 1919 the citizen’s housing league lobbied for improved housing legislation.Stuttaford proposes a garden city: The chairman of the cape Town chamber of commerce, Richard Stuttaford, met with the originator of the Garden city concept, Ebenezer howard, in 1907 and was impressed by his idea of a rural type urban development.

The chamber rejected his idea and so he went directly to the Acting Prime Minister, FS Malan, and offered £10 000 for 800 acres of the uitvlugt Forest Reserve. On June 13 1919, the house of Assembly resolved to support the offer and in February 1920 the grant was made.

Stuttaford did not have widespread support and the Administrator of the cape, Sir Frederic de Waal, called him irresponsible. This lack of official support caused problems in obtaining housing loans, so Stuttaford put up his own personal securities for each house purchased. Pinelands studied internationally as an example of a garden city: Pinelands became the third Garden city in the world, a concept that is now found all over the world,

and Brian Watkyns has personally hosted post graduate students from Japan, uSA, uk, Germany and holland who have come to study Pinelands.Pinelands or midwood? Although the new township was to be called Midwood, Pinelands was considered more appropriate. When Mr cox moved in, there were other people living in the area. Mr Ross, the chief conservator of cape Forests, lived in the uitvlugt Farm house in what is now homestead Way. Mr logan, who managed the development, lived in a shack on the corner of Forest Drive and Alice's Ride which had previously been a brick maker's home. Opposite the shack on the Oval was a police camp. On the ndabeni edge of the Forest was a wood and iron hospital built for the 1900 Bubonic Plague patients but by 1922 housed a few elderly residents.

Despite the huge role that Sir Richard Stuttaford played in founding Pinelands, his name is not found anywhere in the suburb. Pinelands in 1929: Seven years after the first resident moved into Pinelands, it remained primarily a forested area. The many vleis in the area attracted yellow billed duck, pheasants and partridges but also attracted mosquitos which plagued residents. The two main vleis were in the areas of The Bend and Southway. In the bush were bush steenbok, duiker and hares … for a continuation of the Pinelands story of 1929 watch out for the April edition, number 17, of the Muse. Eight countries, 10 000kms and almost one entire continent and the 4bikes4singapore team is still going strong and having the adventure of a lifetime! Once they reach Egypt, the plan is to travel on north to Turkey and then turn east through Iran and keep travelling east to their destination. check out the blog to see how they decide to get around Syria which is presently too hostile to pass through. Experience something of the

day to day joys, trials and victories that make up such an adventure as this!

And so, the adventure continues, still 13 countries, 15 000 kilometres and a whole continent still to navigate on their trusty 650 kawasaki klR motorbikes. In the back of their minds there is always the memory of the Red cross children’s War Memorial hospital and all the incredible care that is being given to children from South Africa and beyond its borders into Africa, and to which they have dedicated this trip.

Joan and Sandy say it will be like separating Siamese twins when Joan takes retirement at the end of February 2012. The sisters have worked at Robelle for more than 37 years, taking over from their mother who bought the shop in 1974. Sandy was the laat lammetjie in the family and will continue working in the shop with the new owners, who contrary to popular belief are not AP Jones of Fishhoek. customers have become friends over the years and the sisters have watched as teenagers have grown into mature women, their oldest customer now is 99. Joan and Sandy have weathered a few renovations over the years and three moves within the howard centre, but report no major mishaps. The Muse wishes both sisters well in the next chapter of their lives.

CORRECT THE PROBLEM - GET RID OF THE CAUSE!TENSION HEADACHE is the most common type and is generally caused by stress, tiredness, and lack of sleep. People often describe it as a “tight band of pain” - like wearing a sweat-band around the head. MIGRAINEMIGRAINE is a severe headache that tends to be on one side of the head and can be accompanied by other symptoms that may include increased sensitivity to light or sound, dizziness, visual disturbances, nausea, or funny tastes or smells that may precede the headache. Migraines can last for hours or even days. There are usually triggering factors which may include stress, rapid hormonal changes and rapid blood sugar changes. Certain foods like nuts, chocolates, coffee (caffeine),(caffeine), processed foods, certain preservatives, and red wine are common triggering factors.

CERVIOGENIC HEADACHES arise from structures within the neck – muscles, tendons, ligaments, and spinal joints. Neck injuries due to whiplash from car accidents and sports injuries, or repetitive strain to your neck through bad posture, tend to cause cervicogenic headaches. Symptoms are usually dull aching pain at the base of the head or on one or both sides of the head, and may radiate to the forehead, eyes, and temples. Cervicogenic headaches respond very well to chiropractic adjustmentsadjustments which mechanically correct the movement and alignment of the spine and its joints, tendons, ligaments, and muscles.

long before the seed of technological advances was planted, communities were self-sufficient and lived off what the land provided. Families would have an abundance of food from their vegetable crop and livestock. With a global concern for the future of our planet and a healthier lifestyle, a movement has begun taking us back to these basics.

The drive to be organic has led to responsible gardening practices. Sustainability is another hot word parting from gardeners’ lips. Food gardens are a great way of creating equilibrium with nature again, but also form part of healthy living and are a very satisfying pastime.

shrubs and flowers and create an ‘ornamental kitchen garden’. Even in a flat, there is always space available for fresh greens! All you need is a window sill or balcony with six hours of sunlight a day.

Don’t forget about fruit trees when planning your food gardens. Plum trees in particular love the Mediterranean climate of the cape and provide great shade in a small garden. They are easy to manage, with divine blossoms and succulent fruit. The efficient pruning and training technique called espalier can be used in gardens where space is a problem.

The old fashioned farming method of crop rotation will benefit all veggie gardens. Plant alternate rows of vegetables: a legume crop such as peas/beans, followed with a leafy salad crop, followed with a root crop. Different plants take different nutrients from the soil, while others add nutrients. Plant rotation also helps to prevent diseases and pests becoming a problem.

Plant out a few veggie plants of a variety

at a time to avoid having a surplus. Plan your planting at three-week intervals to ensure a steady supply. Place compost on the beds when you plant, water regularly and feed with a liquid food for added growth.

If you don’t care much for sowing seed, a wide range of seedlings is available at your local nursery for speedier results.

1. CIRCULATION: The more water moves around the better. Bacteria and Algae will thrive in still, stagnant water.

2. FILTRATION: This removes both visible debris as well and microscopic matter. Make sure the filter is clean (there are various ways of chemically achieving this) and as a rule of thumb, if older than 3 years, change it.

3. CLEANING : unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to get the water to circulate to every part of the pool, automatic pool cleaners also tend to miss certain areas. It is a good idea to brush the walls and floor manually once a week.

SIMPLE DECOrATIvE PAINTING TECHNIqUES

Sponging, colourwaShing and ragging Simple but stunningly decorative techniques that can be used to create a finish of hazy, broken colour on walls. They use a mix of dilute emulsion applied over a base coat of matt emulsion that has been allowed to dry. Dilute emulsion applied over a base coat of matt emulsion has a short drying time which can cause problems, so make sure that the room you plan to decorate is not too hot or too dry. Its a good idea to experiment on a piece of card patch before you start.Mixing your colourS:For colourwashing use 1 part matt emulsion to 4 parts warm water (can use up to 1:10). For sponging you can go to as much as 1:30 For ragging use from 1:5 for a bold colour to 1:25 for a softer colour. Mix carefully in a glass jar.

SpongingThis is the fastest way to add interest to a dull wall or hide imperfections on its surface. If you make a mistake simply sponge on some of the base colour to cover it .You will need a natural sea sponge, an old plate or paint tray. a cloth and disposable gloves.

1. Pour a little of the colour mix onto the plate/paint tray. Dip the sponge into it. Test the colour on a piece of paper, and experiment to achieve the desired affect before you start to sponge the whole wall.

2. Gently pat the sponge on the wall constantly changing the angle and position of your hand and the sponge so you get an even but random build up of colour. Step back from time to time to have a look.

3. For a more dense effect, go over the wall several times, gradually building up the colour. If using a second and third colour, add the next one immediately. Remember to wash and dry the sponge between colours.

On Friday 10 February 2012 the school’s new Primary School building was officially opened. Principals of neighbouring

schools, ward councillors and other special guests attended the ceremony at the school in nursery Way, Pinelands. The special guest Dr. Jane hofmeyr, Executive Director of ISASA (Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa) came from Johannesburg for the occasion.

SCHOOL’S HISTORY IN BRIEFcannons creek Independent School was founded in January 1997 by Ms carol Barhouch (now Booth) together with four teachers, Mrs hazelmay Duncan, Mr kevin Wroth, Ms nicola du Plooy and Ms lesley Jacobson as a Primary co-educational English-medium independent school with a christian ethos. The initial concept was to only provide a Primary school, however in 1998 there was a demand from the parents for cannons creek to establish a high School.

In 1999 a high School was opened with Mike van haght as the Principal.

When cannons creek started in January 1997 it was housed in the hall of the Pinelands club. however, with the continued demand for places in the expanding school, it was soon realised that the School needed a building of its own. In november 1998 cannons creek took occupation of its land

and a building was built specifically for the School. This initial building came into use in January 2000. With the increasing numbers of pupils and due to the growing high school, a second building was built and opened in February 2004. until the end of 2011 cannons creek Junior and high School were housed in two buildings located alongside each other in nursery Way, Pinelands with an adjacent sports field.

In 1997 the School started with 37 pupils and 5 teachers and today in 2012 there are 288 pupils and 34 staff members. The School has endeavoured to keep classes to 16 pupils per Junior School class and 20 per high School class. In the Primary School double streaming started in 2011. In 2006 a Grade R class was started and in 2011 a second Grade R class and a Grade RR class were opened.

construction of the new Primary School building started in May 2011 and the building was handed over to cannons creek Independent School in January 2012. With the Primary School vacating its old premises, the high School has been able to expand into that building and now each high School teacher too, has their own classroom.

cannons creek is administered by a Trust. The principal of the Primary School is Mrs carol Booth and of the high School is Mr Mike van haght.

On 11th February 2012 cannons creek celebrated its 15th Anniversary.

GROwING UP IN PINELANDSSharon grew up with her parents and 2 older brothers in a small protected cul de sac, with only 7 houses. All of the neighbours knew each other and the feeling was of one big family. This is where Sharon learnt to ride her bicycle and, later in her teenage years to drive her mom's little grey volkswagen Beetle. It was also from this home that Sharon walked to Pinelands north Primary School (the Red School) and back each day holding her mother's hand. She then progressed to Pinelands high School, where some of her classes were held in the old prefab buildings!

SPREADING HER wINGSSharon has only lived outside of Pinelands twice. Once, briefly in hermanus, and then for five years in the united kingdom following her studies in Journalism.

SO wHY THE RETURN TO PINELANDS? She says she found it the ideal place to settle and raise a family — in fact in the same home in which she herself grew up! "There is such a sense of community and support and there were always play dates and friends of the same age — a real community vibe. Pinelands will always hold a very special place in her heart as she is a part of two generations — she has grown up here, and raised her own family here. In Sharon's words : "I hardly ever feel lonely in Pinelands".

A PASSION FOR PROPERTY Sharon mentions that her late father invested in property and she says : "I think his passion for property rubbed off on me!" In addition to this, she identified a niche in the property market, given that she had observed her father manage his properties during her childhood

and she was inspired. Sharon has 25 years' experience in property. During this time she worked for different corporate companies and then she and her husband, christo, established their own business, Sharon van Rensburg Properties. The husband and wife team has been successfully working together for 8 years now and clearly enjoy what they are doing. They love to be able to provide the 'personal touch' and meeting people from all walks of life. This has lead to some interesting friendships and connections and even an odd sale or two! Sharon relates the story of a very serious buyer who wanted to view a home during the heavy rainfalls which had flooded the roads. Sharon ended up showing the house bare feet — and made the sale! But, as she says : "That is Pinelands — comfortable and easy going". "Also, our job is made all the more easier because the homes in Pinelands really are good value for money". The children, laura, Jacques and Deon are following their own careers, although they do help with show houses. "We see our business as an opportunity for our children to continue Sharon van Rensburg Properties in years to come."

MUSIC, SINGING, DANCINGSharon shares her love for music, singing and dancing with her mom. Mother and daughter used to sing in a choir and even though her mom is very frail now, they still sing or hum favourite hymns together. her late father's eyes would shine when she played some of his favourites on the piano, especially, A Little Bit of Heaven, Galway Bay and It Was Fascination.

AND NOw?Sharon and I sit on the patio, looking at the garden, one of Sharon's great interests and we are surrounded by the dogs, who are very precious to her. The two 15 year old Maltese Terriers, Jessee and Gemma cuddle up to her adoringly, while the boisterous brother and sister combo, 3 year old Rottweilers, Ben and Bella, romp together on the lawn, dashing back every now and then to collect a pat and some encouragement. What does Sharon do in her spare time now that the children (or, rather young adults, although she finds it hard to admit!) have left home? "Well, I go to yoga classes a few times a week — to Willa just down the road and I look after the garden and dogs and, of course, I savour our lovely evenings spent right here, sitting with family, and friends, enjoying a braai, vino in hand". A perfect example of life in Pinelands.

THE MOTORIST'S FRIEND IN PINELANDSButch has been in the motor industry for 34 years. his connection with Pinelands started 39 years ago when he joined the Mowbray Golf club. It seemed natural to locate his business in Pinelands, so, in 1993 he purchased the BP Service Station on Forest Drive and moved his family to the suburb where his customers have become friends.

When BP closed his busy workshop, Butch relocated his business to Greenside Service Station in Morningside, ndabeni where he could continue to offer a one stop shop for all the motorist's needs.

LONG TERM RELATIONSHIPSButch believes in bringing out the best in people by treating them with respect and taking an interest in their wellbeing. he is the first to agree that he is very fortunate to have wonderful partners, Adriaan Rolfe, (known as Spike), who is a genius with cars and very popular with the customers. Beverley Dirks with a remarkable knowledge of the motor industry, runs the reception. Barbara Swanson with 24 years service looks after the accounts. Birger cedervall the financial director has been a friend and partner with Butch for many years.

THE BALANCE OF LIFEButch advocates a well rounded life that includes activities outdoors in nature. he also believes in harnessing the natural energy of life for healing. It is fascinating to learn about the skills he has acquired to aid humans, horses and dogs, using alternative healing techniques.

colonial feel to it, and being high in the mountains could easily be mistaken for an Alpine village. There are a number of ethnic minority people living in this area and our guide was from the Red Dao group. The girls dress in brightly coloured, handmade clothing and they love to practice their English (or French) on the visitors.

We returned to hanoi by train and then had a four hour drive to halong Bay. This amazing place is classed as one of the modern wonders of the world. We spent two nights aboard a large beautifully equipped motorized junk, sailing round the immense halong Bay area. We were able to kayak from the boat, swim in the South china Sea, and chill out on deck as we sailed into the sunset.

We flew with vietnamese Airways, modern and on time, to Da nang and then by taxi to hoi An, an old town with a bustling, interesting market, marvellous shops and restaurants. Once again our hotel was first class with friendly helpful staff.

The traffic in the cities is hectic, with hundreds of scooters and motor bikes approaching as you wait to cross the road. The only way across is to simply walk out into the oncoming traffic. Amazingly the drivers just go round you. The trick is never to stop walking! hoi An was not quite as busy as hanoi or ho chi Minh city in this respect so we hired bicycles a couple of times, but had to abandon them in the rush hour. One

Friendly people, great food, good beer, which you need in the hot humid weather, shops galore and a wealth of

interesting places to visit.I sent our itinerary to a local travel agent

in hanoi, and he made all the necessary bookings on our behalf. The flights to and from vietnam were made with a local travel agent in South Africa.

Our trip began in hanoi, in what was previously north vietnam. The journey in from the airport was reminiscent of visits to other communist run countries, with large unsightly billboards along side the highway. however it soon became clear that the country is run with a free market approach.

We stayed in the centre of old hanoi where pavement stalls offer a variety of delicious foods, and seating is on small plastic chairs scattered by the roadside. Many streets are dedicated to one type of shop with, for example, fifty or so all selling shoes. Turn the corner and another fifty shops will be specialising in silk or pearls.

From hanoi we took the overnight train to lao cia on the chinese border. The sleeping compartment was comfortable and the food served in the dining car was excellent. however the track is noisy and not nearly as smooth as the European railways. These coaches are owned by the hotel in Sa Pa where we stayed, and are coupled onto the normal overnight train. Sa Pa had a French

We also visited Mui ne, a wonderful seaside resort, with plenty of seafood, fresh vegetables and fruit from the local markets.

Our last stop was in ho chi Minh city, formerly Saigon, which has developed with both old and new next to each other. The number of active building sites was impressive and new shopping malls are appearing in the city centre, which is still known as Saigon. The War Remnants Museum is housed in Saigon, and is a reminder of a war which ended over 35 years ago. We also managed to fit in a worthwhile two hour trip on the Saigon river .

Every other place we visited, and the friendly people we met, warrant a mention but alas space is at a premium.

Simonstown has a wealth of interesting activities for the family. We visited the penguin colony at Boulders and found a couple of paying and non paying activities.

The Boulders penguin colony is a protected breeding sanctuary in the Table Mountain national Park for the African penguin sometimes known

as jackass penguins because of the braying noise that they make.

To get there, drive through Simonstown and look for the turn off left to Seaforth Road. Then follow kleintuin Road to the visitors entrance. There is a gift shop here and a network of boardwalks taking you to the viewing points where one can see the penguins gathering on the beach. This is the north entrance. One can get to the alternative entrance by continuing towards cape Point, on the Millers Point Road until you see a turn off to the left going down Bellevue

Road. This alternate entrance will take you to the popular Boulders beach where it is possible to swim in water sheltered from the currents by huge boulders. The penguins also like swimming here. Just be careful, the penguins can give a nasty bite if frightened or harassed.

Entrance at either of these gates is by Wild card or R45 per adult and R20 for children, and no dogs are allowed into these areas. There is a boardwalk however that runs from the north entrance to the south entrance called Willis walk, where dogs are allowed and poo bins are provided. Access is free, and one can see the little burrows that the penguins use for nesting, which is from February to August. The views over False Bay are beautiful

from the higher vantage point, and there are benches and toilets along the walk.

If you enjoy walking, there is another boardwalk across the road from the south entrance to a walk called Burgher's walk. One can still see the penguins swimming in the sea and exploring the rocks from here

There are many restaurants, tea shops, and souvenir shops in and around Simonstown, providing refreshments and entertainment for a whole day out!
