Certificate Overview The Trauma Certificate is designed to help human service professionals learn techniques to improve their work with children, adolescents, adults, and families who have experienced trauma. Experiences of trauma are complex and unique to each individual, family, and community. Understanding the impact of trauma on the brain and on behavior is critical to inform your work and gives you the tools to apply a trauma- informed lens. The Trauma Certificate exposes you to innovative information, helps you prepare to support those who have experienced trauma, and gives you the opportunity to add specialization in your area of work. The Trauma Certificate courses are developed to meet the interdisciplinary needs of multiple systems and professions and also prioritize developing self-care practices in all professionals to reduce the risk of secondary traumatic stress and compassion fatigue. � 45 hours total required: y 18 hours = three core courses (Understanding Trauma, Trauma

and the Brain, Secondary Traumatic Stress and Self-care) y 27 hours = choose from a variety of electives

Level 1 can be achieved in just one year, but you can take up to 3 years to complete the required training hours for level 1, and 3 years to complete the required training hours for level 2. You can take the courses in any order that fits your schedule.
