Monsignor Al and Father Carlos will celebrate a novena of Masses for the inten-tions of our beloved dead beginning on All Souls Day, November 2. If you would like to participate in this novena, please submit the names of your deceased loved ones on the form enlosed with your church envelopes. Extras are available in the narthex and at the parish office.
Monsignor Al and Father Carlos cordially invite you to the bilingual All Souls Mass of Remembrance for our parishioners and family members who have died in the last year. Wednesday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m. A reception will follow in the church lower level. All are welcome. For more information, contact
The Book of the Names of the Dead will be placed near the baptismal font begin-ning on All Souls Day. Everyone is welcome to inscribe the names of their de-ceased loved ones. As you pass the Book and see the burning candle upon entering and leaving church during November, remember to offer up a prayer for all whose names are enshrined there.
All Souls Day is the Day of the Dead (el Día de Muertos) in Mexico. A beautiful custom associated with the Day of the Dead is the family altar or ofrenda. Famil-iarized by the recent Disney movie “Coco,” these altars are based on popular belief that the souls of the departed return at this time of the year, and show them that they are not forgotten. An ofrenda will be erected in the church narthex on All Souls Day by members of our Hispanic community.
Each Thursday, Dr. Louanne Bachner
leads an informative and prayerful discussion of the lectionary readings for the following Sunday. The study
meets in the Lower Level at two different times: 9:30 a.m. or 7:00 p.m.
Are you thinking about becoming Catholic? Please join us in the Lower
Level on Wednesday nights at 7:00pm to learn more about the Rite
of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).

Q How does your Baptism change you?
A Baptism changes everything. It is as momentous as death and birth, because in Baptism we die with Christ and are born again as God’s beloved children. We are incorporated into the Body of Christ, uniting us with other Christian be-lievers and pointing us towards a life of Christian witness, lived in community. Baptism washes away all sin original and personal, and frees us to live according to the new com-mandment of love: to love and serve God and neighbor in this life and to prepare for eternal life. Baptism marks deci-sive shift in our lives. In the Rite of Baptism, we explicitly reject Satan and the power of evil, and we turn towards God, professing our faith in the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) and promising to walk by the light of Christ. Bap-tism changes everything. For more information about the process of Christian Initiation at IHM, contact Drew Denton in the parish office.
COMING UP IN ADULT FAITH FORMATION October 28 & November 4, 10:15-11:15 a.m. IHM School Library Join us on October 28 and November 4 for a two-part class on the life and witness of St. Oscar Romero, the mar-tyred Archbishop of San Salvador, who was canonized in Rome last week.
“Let this be perfectly clear: the church cannot identify itself with any political party, nor with any organization of a polit-ical, social, or cooperative nature. The church doesn’t have a system. The church doesn’t have methodologies. The church only has Christian inspiration, an obligation to chari-ty that urges it to accompany those who suffer injustice.”
HALLOWEEN, ALL SAINTS AND ALL SOULS DAY Halloween can be a night of innocent fun and enchantment, but Catholic parents should keep children mindful of All Saints Day and All Souls Day as well. After the trick-or-treating is over, ask your kids to learn something about their favor-ite saint. Take them to Mass on November 1. Visit a local cemetery or the grave of a loved one on November 2 to pray for the souls of the departed. Remind them of all the wonderful ways in which God’s faithful people continue to “haunt” us.
A Prayer for Trick-or-Treaters
God, bless all the people we will meet. Let our visit with them be a pleasant treat. Whatever the costumes we wear tonight, May we all be clothed with Christ’s light.
Protect us from danger and the devil’s ways, That tomorrow with the saints we may sing your
praise.
