THE MODERN OLYMPIC GAMES

In 1894, Baron Pierre de Coubertin founded the International Olympic Committee as

the governing body of the Olympic Movement. De Coubertin was inspired by the

ancient Olympic Games and believed in an organization that would be able to

celebrate the worlds prominent athletes. The goal of the Olympic Movement has

always been to celebrate the world’s diversity and overcoming all obstacles thorough

the power of sports. The Olympic Games has the unique ability to encourage and

empower the world to overcome their differences and celebrate together the triumphs

of our world’s finest athletes. As the leading, largest and most celebrated international

sporting event, the Olympic movement has garnered participation from over 200

nations. The Olympics Games is a two-week international sporting competition

featuring thousands of athletes from across the world competing in the summer and

winter edition of the games, which alternates every two years.

The Olympics is dedicated in embracing Olympism, a philosophy of life that places

sport at the service of humanity. It is a firm belief that by celebrating the

accomplishments of our athletes we as an international community can defeat any

barriers created by differences in our world. Olympism further emphasizes that the

spirit of the Olympic Games and that by connecting sport to culture and education we

can make a significant and positive impact to our world today. At the forefront of the

Olympic Movement is celebrating diversity; encouraging the youth of the world to be

the strong leaders of tomorrow; and to display the spirit of the body, mind and soul for

only a place where the entire world can come together and witness the triumphs of

these athletes, but also where inspirational athletes reignite the passion for their

respective nations and the athletes of the future.

In addition to hosting the Olympic Games, each city awarded has the opportunity to

not only host the Olympics, but also have the chance to host the Paralympic Games.

The creation of the Paralympic Games is to truly encompass the philosophy of

Olympism, where all individuals will have the opportunity to embody their athleticism

despite all obstacles. The movement to hosting both Games simultaneously is to

encourage greater acceptance for humanity.

For any city that hosts the Olympic Games, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity for city

to not only show case their home to the rest of the world, but also help embody the

Olympic Movement in regions uncharted before. The Olympic Movement can

transform and transcend a city, a state and a nation to be more accepting and to

recognize and celebrate the similarities we all have as oppose to the differences that

separates us. By hosting the Olympic Games, a community, a city, a state and a nation

will have the chance to integrate acceptance, love and athleticism to their culture and

society, making for a brighter future. Los Angeles is bidding for the 2024 Summer

Olympics Games to make an impact for our nation. We truly believe that the city of Los

Angeles and the people of our amazing city are up for the challenge of hosting these
