My name is James and what brought me here to the Mission was a crack addiction. Crack took me so far down. I’ve been so ashamed and beat down.

Crack cocaine took me down so bad that I finally cried out – and the Lord made it possible for me to come back. I came here on the 29th of September, and on the 16th of October, I was saved – I came into a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and that is the difference in my life. Today I’m a free person, a born again Christian. I know that to be the Truth. It’s not just by mere thinking but by seeing things differently. The Lord is doing things I’ve never experienced before: He’s made me free and delivered me from the lifestyle of sin. And it involves a lot – that lifestyle of lying and being in bondage to my own self. I no longer have to pretend – I have the mask off now.

I’m just excited about what Jesus is doing and look forward to living the rest of my life under the Holy Spirit. I’m looking forward to returning back to the Mission one day to share greater testimonies about what the Lord is continuing to do in my life and talking of the goodness of God to the people that would be here: to continue to share the message of hope; of change; of life; of our Great Deliverer, who desires “that all men should be saved and none should be lost.”

I’m excited about what God is doing. He’s changed my life here at the Rescue Mission. Change is real.

After 4 years of serving WRM as Senior Pastor and Executive Director, Rev. Steve Cochran has received an appointment to serve the local church through the Baltimore-Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church. We pray God’s blessing upon him and offer our deepest appreciation for his outstanding leadership of the Mission.

Tremendous GRATITUDE to LifePoint Church! LPC honored the Mission this year with the proceeds

from their annual Golf for a Cause tournament.

Dale S.S. Chambers Sr. Foundation was created in 1997 after the untimely passing of Dale Chambers who was the founder of Strouse, a manufacturing company in Westminster Maryland. The Foundation was created in Dale’s memory to celebrate his life by raising funds to donate to charities that represent Dale’s spirit. The DSSC Foundation continues to be a generous supporter of WRM.

Dale believed that human beings were only limited by their aspirations. Sue Chambers, Pres. & CEO of Strouse today, has been a faithful sponsor of WRM because she believes Dale would have supported the mission of WRM to provide services that uplift the spirit of those in need and because of its mission to serve those dealing with the disease of addiction. We, at the Mission, greatly appreciate the faithful and generous support of both the Dale S.S. Chambers Sr. Foundation, as well as the Strouse Corporation.

Joe Paschal and Kari Patterson from LifePoint present a check for $10,131.65 to ED, Carol Bernstein.

God’s Blessings are New Every MorningMelissa Larson has volunteered at the Mission food pantry since April 2016. She serves three days a week making phone calls, scheduling or rescheduling appointments and checking-on our food pantry clients. She also handles the data entry for client and food distribution numbers into the Community Service Point database system.

Melissa’s first interaction with the Mission was as a client seeking food assistance for herself from the food pantry. As a single mom living on disability income she was referred by another local nonprofit for food assistance. She was relatively new to the Carroll County community. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska,

raised in Dallas, Texas she had relocated from the Pacific Northwest. As God provided one miracle after another for her she knew she needed to give back and help others.

Melissa attends LifePont Church where she is involved in and leads the Wednesday Women’s Ministry class. She also spends a few weeks each summer assisting with a kids’ STEM- LEGOs camp. Melissa hosts a few times per week, with a number of other single moms receiving assistance from WRM’s food pantry, communal meals. Everyone brings something and they spend their time fellowshipping with the kids and enjoying game time.

Melissa enjoys the time she spends connecting to the food pantry clients and helping connect them to other area resources. She is considering going back to school online. Her previous work experiences included HR work with very large businesses. This is probably one reason she is SO GOOD at the work she does here.

We thank God for bringing Melissa Larson to serve at the Mission. We are grateful for her heart for others.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

We are pleased to introduce FOUR new members to our staff at the Mission. From left to right:

Angela Phillips, with 15+ years of development experience has joined us as our Director of Development: “I am blessed to serve at WRM and am excited to see God moving in the lives of our clients and my co-workers.”

Anne Warcup is serving as our new Office Manager: “I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to serve along with a great group of people.”

Brian Doyle is our new Food Program Director. Brian is in the process of receiving his ministerial license and celebrated 26 years in recovery this past April. When asked how he feels about leading our ministry of providing food to people in need, Brian said, "He is honored to have the opportunity to bless the community with the hands of Christ."

Peter Christiansen, with experience in grant writing, is serving as the new Development Associate.

WELCOME TO NEW STAFF

MISSION NEEDS LIST Driver for Food Program and Cargo Van We recently had to scrap 2 cargo vans that were no longer safe to drive. They had been donated to us and served as workhorses in our food program for smaller local runs. We are in great need of a replacement vehicle. This will be used in conjunction with our refrigerated box trucks.

With 42 stores and restaurants to pick up surplus food from every week, each vehicle is needed. Especially during the growing season, with the added donations of produce received, WRM may be a pipeline for 20,000 lbs. of food each week for people in need. If you are a man with a good driving record, and are willing to volunteer one morning per week, WE NEED YOU to work with our residential clients in this program to serve the community. Call 410-848-2222 ext. 16 to speak with Brian.
