20th Century. Sordi enrolled in Milan’s dramatic arts academy but was kicked out because of his thick Roman accent. Ironically, it was his accent that would later prove to be his trademark. In a careerthat spanned seven decades, Sordi establishedhimself as an icon of Italian cinema with hisrepresentative skills at both comedy and light drama. Sordi died shortly before his eighty-third birthday following a heart attack.

Antonio De Curtis, better known as Totò, was born the 15 of February 1898 in Naples. He was an Italian film and theatreactor, writer,singer and songwriter He was bestknown for comic roles,but in thelatter part of his life showed that he was comfortable in dramatic portrayals as well. Despite his physical appearance Totò had a reputation as a great playboy. He died atthe age of 69 the 15 April 1967 after aseries of heart attacks.

Sergio Leone was born the 3 of January 1929 in Rome. He was an Italian film director, producer and screenwriter most famous for his spaghetti westerns. His mostwell-known movies include the Man with No name trilogy (which consists of A Fistful of Dollars, For a few Dollars Moreand The Good, The Bad and The Ugly), Once Upon a Time in the West and Once Upon a Time in America. Leone died the 30 of April 1989 of a heart attack at the age of 60.

In the 60’s the italian family was founded on marriage and usually families had lots of children.

It was a patriarchal unit where the husband represented authority, so he worked hard alla day long to sustain the family economically.

Families were also really numerous because of the habit of living with grandparents and grandchildren and everybody used to celebrate family or religious festivities together.

In contrast, the key role of women regarded the managing og the house and the education of the children, wich was quite strict and based on respect and obedience, two fundamental values.

In fact, in that period women had to leave their jobs at the birth of the first child to care for their family.

Moreover, in everyday life dinner was an important moment of dialogue where parents and children were united around the same table
