THE MESSENGER The Peekskill Presbyterian Church September 2015
OUR MISSION
In response to the profound love of God through Jesus Christ
toward all, we welcome everyone to join as we study and proclaim the gospel, seek the will of God, grow in spiritual
maturity, share our resources, and respond in service to the needs of
our members and our neighbors.
Get Ready, Get Ready, Get Ready!
Peekskill Presbyterian Church’s Senior Celebration
Saturday, October 10, 2015 One O’Clock P.M.
The Cortlandt Colonial Restaurant 714 Old Albany Post Rd
Cortlandt, NY 10567 Sponsored by: The Ministries of The
Peekskill Presbyterian Church By Faith, Pastor Stephany
"Youth is not a time of life. It is a state of mind."
“Youth is not a time of life. It is a state of mind. Nobody grows old by
merely living a number of years. People grow old only by deserting
their ideals. Years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles
the soul. Worry, doubt, self-distrust, fear and despair – these are the
long, long years that bow the head and turn the growing spirit back to
dust. Whether seventy or sixteen, there is in every being’s heart the
love of wonder, the sweet amazement at the stars and the starlike
things and thoughts, the undaunted challenge of events, the unfailing
childlike appetite for what’s next, and the joy and the game of life. You
are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt; as young as your self-
confidence, as old as your fear; as young as your hope, as old as your
despair.” by Samuel Ullman

SESSION HIGHLIGHTS - AUGUST 13, 2015
The minutes of the June 2015 & Special July 2015 meeting were accepted.
Matthew Russell taught us a praise song “Trust in the Lord” as the devotional.
A group called “Brave Hearts” came and gave a presentation about their organization which is designed to help youths ex-periencing hardships in their lives. This is an organization with a great deal of input from the youths. They have experi-enced great success working with youths in need. They are seeking a space to hold their meetings in the Peekskill area. Their meetings would take place on Thursdays from 5-7 p.m. They would do all the set up and clean up. No decision was reached at this point. A group of Session members agreed to meet with Brave Hearts to get more information.
Our treasurer is moving and therefore we need to begin the search for a replacement.
Our YTD offerings have exceeded what was budgeted.
Pastor called our attention to the attendance statistics and asked that we share her concern.
Marsha Vernon thanked Corporate and Business for the work being done around the church.
On September 19 there will be an open house at the church sponsored by Christian Education. People are needed to help conduct tours and various other assignments. The open house will be held from 11-1
The Senior Celebration will be held on October 10, 2015.
October 25, 2015 is a possible date to begin the pledge drive.
On Sunday January 24, 2016, Graymoor will use the church for their annual prayer week service.
The session will begin holding its meetings every other month beginning in October. The meetings will begin at 7:00 and run for two hours with a
Maximum of two and one half hours.
Old offering envelopes need to only be kept for two full years plus the current year.
This was Caroline Renaud’s official last meeting.
The meeting was closed in prayer by Caroline Renaud at 9:05 p.m.
Respectfully submitted: Charlene Woods, Clerk of Session

CHOIR CORNER
I am excited to announce that the music pro-gram is going to get off and running again.
Choir practice is starting for the Chancel Choir (and continuing for the Praise Choir) starting on September 9. The Chancel Choir rehearses Wednesday evenings 7-8pm and Sunday mornings 9-10am and the Praise Choir will rehearse Wednesday evenings
8-9pm.
All are welcome and encouraged to attend. If you'd like to be a part of helping to celebrate God through song, then I look forward to see-ing you at rehearsal for either the Chancel Choir, the Praise Choir, or
even better...both.
If you aren't sure if you'd like to be a member, but are interested and would like to try it out, please feel free to come to a rehearsal or two,
and see if it would be a good fit.
If you would like to be able to celebrate with music, but maybe sing-ing isn't your thing, please be sure to introduce yourself to me. This is because as the season progresses we will be adding new programs and performances, and would like to be able to incorporate anyone
who desires to be included.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and I look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Matthew J. Russell

Autumn
Blessings
By Deborah ann
Autumn brings to the soul relief,
as hot Summer days, slip to an end
God sent the season for weary hearts
to restore, repair and mend.
Unlike the Autumn trees,
that shed their changing leaves
God sent the season for failing hearts
to adhere, embrace and cleave.
Just as with the Autumn winds,
there comes a new refreshing rain
God sent the season for fraying hearts
to increase, grow and gain.
The Autumn sun is slow to climb,
and dips much earlier into the night
God sent the season for sleepy hearts
to rise, shine and awake in His light.
God gave to us the Autumn season,
so we could have a respite and rest
for it is the season for our beset souls
to see how much we are blessed!

VACATION BIBLE CAMP
Vacation Bible Camp is off to a great start. We
have had 20-24 children enrolled from grades
1-7. With a few snafus, including not having a
stove for Macaroni Monday or the ability to
open the social hall doors or use that side park-
ing lot, the first days were an overall suc-
cess. Fireman Kerry on Monday and nurse Ma-
randa on Tuesday and Bruce the animal guy on
Wednesday shared what they do with very
hands on demonstrations. Children were able to
touch real fire gear and a variety of live reptiles
and our stuffed animals received IV's and
casts! We are so looking forward to our detec-
tive and Noodles the Christian rapper to round
out the week. Special thanks to Matthew who
has been sharing his knowledge of music with
the group and Pastor
Stephany for sharing stories about Heroes in
the Bible. Thanks also to our volunteers. So
far...so good

Calendar Ministry - It’s That Time Again
"...I was in prison and you visited me." Matthew 25:36
It’s that time of year. The calendars have
started arriving in the mail.
Last year, churches in our Presbytery col-
lected more than 400 calendars and gave
them to the men who reside at Sing Sing
Correctional Facility. These calendars were
distributed through the chaplain's office. Last year we collected
400 calendars. But there are about 1700 men at Sing Sing,
which means we could use a lot more calendars. When someone
receives a calendar and hangs it on a cell wall, there is a re-
minder each and every day, for an entire year, that someone in
the community thought of him. Won't you reach out? Won't you
share? If you receive more calendars than you can use, bring
them to church or to the church office and I will be sure that
they find a home where they will be appreciated.
Please help. It's really easy. And hope is the most wonderful
gift you can give.
