Scriptures we are reminded that
unlike Jesus’ disciples we were
not there to see the risen Lord.
So how do we translate that
truth into our lives today?
Where does our faith
come from if we can-
not see Him with our
own eyes? Just as
Thomas doubted be-
cause he had not seen
the Lord with his own
eyes we too sometimes
have doubt. In our
world today we are pulled in
many directions as there are any
number of distractions that draw
our attention from our faith and
take our eyes off God.
Near the end of his gospel
story John 20:30-31 tells us,
“Jesus did many other miracu-
lous signs in the presence of his
disciples, which are not
recorded in this book. But these
are written that you may believe
that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of God, and
that by believing you
may have life in His
name.”
Believing and having
faith in the unseen risen
Jesus is the foundation
of what it means to be
people of the resurrection. Even
though we have not seen our
risen Lord standing before us
we can be like the beloved disci-
ple whose faith was immediate.
As our faith and belief in Jesus’
teachings grows deeper the need
Christ is Risen HE IS RISEN INDEED

E ach year the Easter season brings with it the renewed promise of new life in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
There are 49 days between Easter and Pentecost so we have some time to spend and reflect upon Jesus’ victory over death. As we celebrate the Easter truth and fulfillment of the

for visual confirmation becomes
less and less necessary.
Through the pages of John’s
gospel we read that Jesus is:
the bread of life,
the light of the world that
no darkness can overcome,
the good shepherd who
knows His sheep,
the resurrection and the
life,
the way the truth and the
life,
and the one who is the true
vine with God as the
gardener.
What more proof do we need
than these words to know and
describe our dear Lord and
Savior?
The truth of new life
through Jesus for us can be
translated for us by living out
our faith in love and service to
our neighbors and those who
need our presence in
their lives, by seeing
Jesus in the people we
meet, and by knowing
that where we are
Jesus is also. Our faith
comes from living
lives in which we are
blessed to be blessings
to those people we
encounter and by
experiencing God’s
hand in our own lives
on a daily basis.
A s we t r av e l
together on this post-
resurrection journey
may we all strengthen
our belief and our faith
in God by knowing
our risen Lord, Jesus
Christ, more fully so
that we may have life
in His name.
God’s blessings
to you all,
Pastor Linda

T his is the time we all appreciate our Moms and teachers that touch our hearts and minds. From our Mothers to
the many educators that influence our lives forever. The chil-dren will create works of art that will begin as Mother’s Day cards and remain forever as a special memory. They will also
work with the Eden Lutheran
teachers, their first set of educa-
tors, learning how to learn and
about God’s many blessings.
This month we remind the
teachers how much we appreci-
ate all they do. Teacher
appreciation week is May
7-11th. The parents will
have a luncheon for the staff
on Friday, May 11, 2012.
Eden Lutheran School
has two fundraisers in May. We
are selling Mother’s Day Cards
for .50 cents from April 23-May
11th. Now that’s a deal! We
are also having our annual Trike
-a-thon on Friday, May25, 2012.
Please help by sponsoring a
child for this fun event.
So stop by the school office
and show your support for
the students and staff of our
School.
We will be closed May
28, 2012 for Memorial
Day. Please have a safe and
happy long weekend.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER STEVE ANDERSON President of the Congregation
Dear Members-
P lease mark your calendars for a very special and important congregational meeting to be held on May 20, 2012 imme-
diately following worship. This is our regularly scheduled annual council election meeting. But something even more important than the council election will be taking place at that meeting,
and it is very important that as
many members as possible
attend. Read on for more details.
As you may recall from the
special congregational meeting
held last September, Eden voted
to extend a one year term-call to
Pastor Linda Brown. As a part of
that vote, the congregation
agreed to meet again in Septem-
ber 2012 to vote on whether to
extend a permanent call to
Pastor Linda or whether to part
ways and search for a new
pastor to lead us.
Due to overwhelming and
popular demand, conversations
began in January about the
possibility of extending a perma-
nent call to Pastor Linda sooner
than September 2012. Pastor
Linda has expressed a very deep
seated and heartfelt belief that
Eden is where she belongs. She
believes God led us to each
other, and your council agrees
with her one hundred percent.
Council has received nothing but
positive feedback from our
members regarding Pastor
Linda.
After meeting with represen-
tatives from the Pacifica Synod
to determine if an early vote was
permissible, Eden’s council
voted during our March 2012
meeting to accelerate the process
of extending a permanent call to
Pastor Linda.
Therefore, at the congrega-
tional meeting on May 20th, the
members of Eden will be asked
to vote on whether or not to ex-
tend a permanent call to Pastor

OUR EDEN FAMILY
We Get Letters
Eden's Helping Hands,
On behalf of Miller Middle School, I would like to thank you for the extremely gen-
erous donation that you gave to one of our families. I know that the $100.00 to Stater
Brother's and the $100.00 to Target will go a long way for their family. We currently
have a family at our school going through a difficult time. Our student ( a 7th grade boy),
lives with his single mother, 15 year old sister, and 6 year old sister. They have been
moving from home to home - staying with friends until they feel they wear out their
welcome. Recently, they have been in a motel, because their mother is receiving breath-
ing treatments at Parkview for pneumonia.
Our school has become an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program
school this year, which means that we teach our students to focus on community service.
We expect them to get involved in the community, and look for opportunities where
they can help. Your donation is such an excellent example for our students, and I thank
you for your kindness.
I will keep you updated on the family's progress. I know the mother's goal is that
her children finish the school year here in Riverside. They are all honor students. Thank
you again.
Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Terri Lowery

Running with God
A room filled with spring and Easter cheered all who
attended the ELCW General Meeting held on
Saturday, March 31.
The morning started with devotions presented by our
Vice President, Pat Sinclair, who read us a prayer / poem
by Theresa Mary Grass called “Celebration.”
Our own Vanessa Lancaster presented the program -
she told us how she ran a marathon and found herself in
conversation with God.

The idea of running was not a pleasant one to
Vanessa, but it was something she wanted to conquer. In
preparation she learned what to eat, how to breath, when
to stretch. Even with this she found that training was
sporadic. When it came to the big day Vanessa found that
the first three miles were great, it was uphill, but she had
water and it was good. The next 5 miles were OK,
though she did eye a couple chairs and fantasized about
sitting down.
As time progressed she kept going, but more slowly.
There was also this voice in her head questioning her
ability to “do it.” Her answer was “I can if God is with
me.” The voice countered with “are you sure?” She was
tired, her feet hurt, and at this point her family wasn’t
there to cheer her on, and the voice continued with “Are
you sure?” Her answer was yes, but her pace slowed to
a walk and she began to wonder if anyone cared, but
knew that God cares. Then the question changed to “Are
you being you? Who God intended you to be?”
With this last question she noticed that her family was
there and were cheering her on. She picked up the pace
and was able to finish.
Weeks later at a women’s Synod event Vanessa
realized that the voice she kept hearing was God. She also
realized that in pursuing the marathon, even when she
didn’t like running, she was fulfilling a new passion and
that with God she could accomplish her goal.
Vanessa encouraged us to follow our passions and
know that God is with us in our endeavors.

W hen it comes to lovability, Hannah, the sole elephant at Seat-
tle’s dilapidated Max L. Biedelman Zoo, is off the charts. Res-
cued as a baby by the zoo’s founder while on safari in Africa, Hannah has been cared for
by Samson Brown for her 41-year captivity. But Samson is aging and his health is failing,
and the zoo needs a plan. Enter Neva Wilson, an energetic young zookeeper whose
creative ideas for Hannah’s well-being immediately puts her afoul of Harriet Saul, the
zoo’s petty, tyrannical administrator. To save Hannah’s life, Samson and Neva scheme
to transfer her to an elephant sanctuary, though their plan comes with great personal
risk. Irresistibly touching, delectably uplifting, Hammond’s understated yet gargantuan
tale of devotion and commitment poignantly proves that love does indeed come in all
shapes and sizes.

Dearest Eden Family and Friends,
I just have to tell you about the wonderful Easter celebration
Dee Dee Davidson and I had on Easter Sunday.
We hiked up to the cross on Mount Rubidoux for the Easter
Sunrise Service.
We started out climb at 5 o’clock in the morning and it was
still very dark. Bu the full moon guided us and we were able to
look down at all the beautiful lights in Riverside.
The service was inter-denominational so we were able to
socialize with many other Christians. “May They Be One.”
The messages, scripture readings, music and prayers were
very inspirational. Mount Rubidoux’s Easter Sunrise Service is
the oldest Easter Sunrise Service in the United States. How
blessed we are to live in Riverside.
And then after our walk down we were able to come back to
our Eden Home and experience another wonderful inspirational
service with our Eden family.
God’s Blessing to all of you
Your sister in Christ,
Nancy Svete
Linda Brown. If that vote passes,
a second vote will be held to
determine Pastor Linda’s
compensation and benefits pack-
age.
Eden’s council unanimously
supports the extension of a
permanent call to Pastor Linda
Brown. We believe Pastor Linda
has demonstrated a passion for
ministry to all ages, strong
knowledge of the Word, an
effective leadership style, and a
warm and genuine personality.
Please join us for this very
important and historic vote that
will shape the future of Eden for
many years to come.
in HIS grip,
Steve Anderson
