The Slippery Slope

Freedom isnt free What a clicheacute huh The obvious touting of this axiom is in reference to the many wars and conflicts America has fought over the last couple of centuries Freedom isnt free the first patriots fought the King of England and ensured our freedom from his tyranny and the foundation of the USA Freedom isnt free over 360000 Union Army sol-

diers died to free the slaves Freedom isnt free men died on the beach at Normandy and stopped Hitler from taking over the world Freedom isnt free and the thing with clicheacutes is that theyre usually somewhat true But aside from bloodshed and war statistics recently I have been contemplating the price of freedom in a far more domestic man-ner If you would join me down the rabbit hole hellip

Last week Tim Cook the CEO of Apple refused to cooperate with the FBI when asked for help in hacking the iPhone of San Bernardino shooter Syed Farook He claims that if Apple helps the FBI hack the iPhone of a known terrorist theres no stopping the FBI from hacking anyones phone and the privacy of hundreds of millions of Apple customers will be at risk His argument is entirely based upon the logical fallacy of the slippery slope if A happens then eventually C will happen The problem with this argument is that B goes entirely unsubstantiated The warrant (pun intended in this case) is left to the arguer to decide the value of B in order for A to get to C and validate the argument

Huh

That means Tim Cook has to be more than a fear-monger if he wants the FBI off his back Let me get your logic straight Timmy if Apple helps the FBI crack the iPhone of a terrorist who shot and killed over a dozen people sud-denly a precedent is set that gives the FBI carte blanche to hack into the other 682 million iPhone users around the world whenever and why-ever they want to Spare me This is the same CEO (with a personal net worth of over $400 million) who declared that Edward Snowden who leaked classified data of national security and committed treason against the USA opened an important dialogue about privacy

Heres the dialogue Id like to open (or rather re-open) freedom isnt free I recently saw an ad for the next genera-tion of ATMs These machines are able to read your smart phone and expedite your transaction No debit card needed Such technology seems to be begging for identity theft so I was personally glad to see it I figure the lower-hanging fruit puts me higher up the tree and therefore at a lower risk No one is going to hack my cell phone be-cause it cost me $15 doesnt get the internet and its only function is MAKING PHONE CALLS Freedom isnt free Michigan state law allows motorcyclists to doff their helmets but they must first meet certain additional require-ments Freedom isnt free I can dial 9-1-1 in an emergency and expect someone to help me but if I dont pay my taxes Ill be put in jail Freedom isnt free

The amount of freedom you have always comes at the cost of a zero-sum game Do you want to be protected from terrorists or do you want privacy on your browser history Do you want to receive the forgiveness of Jesus Christ in His body and blood or do you want to sleep in on Sunday Do you want to limit police interaction or do you want them to help you when youre in trouble Do you want to pay for health insurance or do you want to go bank-rupt at the first sign of illness Do you want privacy or do want to maybe question the things you do that demand privacy hellip

Freedom is a beautiful thing But it always comes at a price Just ask Jesus

-Pastor

taking a special offering to help the family with their immedi-

ate needs You may place your donation in the basket at the back of the church or give it to the church office

News from Little Lambs of Jesus Preschool amp Childcare Center Greetings from the Center I am writing this while the wind is blowing strong and its 56 degrees outside Surely this warmish weather is a foretaste of whats just around the corner I hope We welcome a new staff member to our family Denise Medina She will be an assistant in the toddler room 2 days a week She is from Albion married with no children at this time We

appreciate her love for the Lord and her calming presence with those toddlers They are a lively bunch with hearts of gold Several of them are showing signs of wanting to use the potty Thats always fun said no adult ever The chil-dren have been learning new Jesus songs and they love it Learning new songs and finger plays is great but wheels on the bus remains the most requested song every day We have 2 new babies in our infant room We transitioned one to the toddler room this past week We had the stom-ach bug and the respiratory virus go through and just survived 12 cases of pink eye And once again it completely bypassed the staff Thanks be to God for that Many of you have asked about our babies and their ages As of this letter we have 14 babies ranging from 11 weeks to 16 months We have 5 girls and 9 very active boys in our care It really is quite something to watch how they interact with one another We marvel at how fast they change and grow Mrs Farley and Ms Sue survived the Valentines parties So many sweets given to many excited preschoolers makes for a very wild day They loved it though and thats really what matters most I recently had a conversation with a grandparent of one of the preschoolers and she was telling me that her 3 year old granddaughter recited the entire Pledge of Allegiance to her The girl was so proud that she didnt stop there She went on to sing Jesus loves me I just wanna be a sheep The color song and more The grandparent said she couldnt imagine sending her to another preschool and she tells everyone she knows about Little Lambs Hats off to Mrs Farley and Ms Sue for their efforts Its noticed by many Our child care preschoolers have been learning about presidents these past few weeks As I have been told youre never too young to learn They are starting a new segment on healthy eating and exercise I have been told thats good for us too ) They are a eager to learn group of kids and the staff is doing a great job on keeping them en-gaged in new things They love their new dress up clothes that were donated by many of you Thanks so much for your generosity Thanks Betty Weston for the baked goodies and other items you donated Thanks to all who bought subs from us We profited over $600 Thats fantastic We are hosting a euchre night March 11 We are also having a family to fam-ily sale on the 19th See the newsletter for more details Also the traffic light fundraiser will return Look for it in the narthex soon Hopefully next month I can report that our new security system is in place Thats been in the works for months and I am optimistic its going to be installed soon Trying to be proactive in our safety is one of our main goals for 2016 Please keep our entire Lambs family in your prayers We have 3 of our kids that have or will be undergoing surgery We have many pregnant moms among us and we are excited about that We have staff that needs support guid-ance patience and a morale boost on occasion We have families that are enduring hardships that many of us could never imagine Some are struggling with money health and relationships Many of them need to connect with Christ Pray for that If we can help lead them to Jesus so many of their other struggles will fall into place Prayer is important Prayer is easy Prayer is free Prayer changes things Prayer is something we all can do Will you please pray for us In Christ who changes EVERYTHING Jenny

-Pastor
