July 2020 The Messenger Greetings to our new church family at St. James! We are so excited to finally be here in Bellevue and even more excited to begin to meet everyone that is part of the St. James family. In order to get that process started, let me tell you a little bit about my fami- ly. My wife Toni and I both grew up on farms near Abilene, Kansas, graduated from Chapman High School and then Kansas State University. Following graduation, we got married and moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where I worked as a Claims Representative and Toni managed retail stores. After spending a cou- ple of years in Corpus Christi and four years in Dallas, we moved back to Kansas. Our son Ethan was born in Dallas and our daughter Brogan was on the way. I managed a couple of insurance pools for the Kansas Association of Counties and Toni returned to school to get her teaching certificate in Art Education. She taught Art at Abilene High School for 15 years before moving to Gardner-Edgerton High School where she currently teaches with three other Art teachers. I felt the call to pastoral ministry when I was in Junior High while practicing for a youth Sunday. While standing at the front of the Talmage United Methodist Church, I heard the inaudible but unmistakable voice of God telling me He wanted me to do this. After running for 20 years, I finally surrendered my life to His calling one evening in a hotel room in Lincoln, Nebraska while reading The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. I eventually began pastoring a Brethren in Christ Church in Hope, Kansas before planting a new church in Herington, Kansas. I returned to my United Methodist roots in 2008 where I eventually became the lead pastor at Emmanuel UMC in Abilene, Kansas. After nine years there, I was reappointed to Shawnee UMC where I spent the last three years before receiving the call to St. James. Our son Ethan lives in Kansas City and just announced his engagement to his girlfriend Kaitlin last week. Yay!!!! He works as a GIS analyst and she is a school counselor for Desoto High School. Our daughter Brogan lives in Topeka, Kansas with her husband Jon where they are planting a new church together. They have been involved in ministry together for several years. They had our first grandson, Emerson, almost two years ago so we have experienced the joy of being grandparents for the first time. That is a little bit about our family. We really are overjoyed to be here and looking so forward to getting to experience the open arms and warm hearts of the people at St. James UMC. Office Manager Job Opening With Wendys departure, the S.P.R.C. is looking for a FT Office Manager starting ASAP. The salary ($32,000-$36,000) to be determined based on experience and duties assigned. You may contact Mr. Chris Ross, SPRC Chair, for details at [email protected] or 402-297-7241. You may also contact the Church Office at [email protected] or 402- 291-3881. As in the past, we advertise for job openings internally first; advertising to the public on July 1. Resumes should be received via the church office no later than July 10, 2020. Moving Forward... As many of you read last week, I will be moving to Arizona at the end of July. The gentleman, Bill Glennon, I ve been dating was offered a promotion with his job as a state employee in Phoenix, so I will be joining him there. Believe me when I say that this has been a very difficult decision for me. Besides my children, who mean the world to me but are in fact adults, Bellevue has become my home and St. James, my family. When we moved here in 2005 with orders from the Air Force, I had no idea what the Lord had in store for us. Yes, there have definitely been some hard days for the Bevilacqua family but there have been so many more GOOD days. All along, Ive been blessed to have such a strong and supportive group of people beside me. St. James, I cant thank you enough for being right here with us in the hard times and the joyous times. I will, however, make a weak attemptTHANK YOU! Thank you for the support, the love, the prayers, the little notes I would often find in my office, the candy and treats, the phone calls, the laughs, the meals, the coffee and your friendship. Mostly, thank you for welcoming me into your families. Thank you for sharing your lives with me. Thank you for blessing me. Every morning that I have come to St. James, I prayed that I would be a blessing to you and I hope that has been the case. It has been my pleasure to be the Office Manager here at St. James for the last 12 years; I will miss each of you! With much love and respect, Wendy Bevilacqua

Greetings to our new church family at St. James! We are so excited to finally be here in Bellevue and even more excited to begin to meet everyone that is part of the St. James family. In order to get that process started, let me tell you a little bit about my fami-ly. Moving Forward... As many of you read last week, I will be moving to Arizona at the end of July. The gentleman, Bill Glennon, I’ve been dating was offered a promotion with his job as a state employee in Phoenix, so I will be joining him there. All along, I’ve been blessed to have such a strong and supportive group of people beside me. St. James, I can’t thank you enough for being right here with us in the hard times and the joyous times. I will, however, make a weak attempt… THANK YOU!

Events occur at both Campuses. The rooms at our East Campus will be signified with an E in front of the number (i.e. E-217); the rooms at our West Campus will be signified with a W in front of the number (i.e. W-101).

Thank You from Pastor Jim Precious People of St James UMC, Lori and I want to thank you for all the beautiful cards and heartfelt expressions of gratitude for my Pastoral ministry. We are sincerely touched with the out pouring of kindness and love through the gifts and words of affirmation. The most heart touching events were the drive byes where so many people had the opportunity to stop and share their love. We were especially touched by all the 8:00 Traditional congregation members who left the safety of home to dive by. I am taking a few days of much need leave until June 30th. I report to work at Springfield on July 1st. I am moving some boxes out of our garage at home to Springfield in my office there. A huge thank you to Wendy for her continued support and to Glen Stinn who is working so very hard to remodel the Pastors’ Office in preparation of Pastor Shane's official arrival. I know Pastor Shane will lift the church to new heights and open doors to exciting ministries as the church skyrockets to growth and building the dreams of tomorrow. Blessings Pastor Jim Parrish [email protected]

Thank You St. James Laurel and I thank our St James family for the com-fort provided over the passing of my brother Ron Wheeler. We received numerous cards and phone calls expressing sympathy - all helped and were ap-preciated. His service was Saturday, June 13, with burial at the Bedford Cemetery near Howe, NE. We are blessed to belong to such a warm, caring church community. Don and Laurel Wheeler

MAPLES ~ Middle Age People Looking-to Eat Somewhere

The MAPLES group has been around for over 10 years. Wes and I started the group when we were “empty nesters”. We thought it would be fun to go out to eat with friends from the church. What started with 6 people has blossomed into a group averaging 30 or more people each month. Since COVID 19 we have not be able to meet and now Wes and I will be moving to Colorado for his new job. If you are interested in keeping this group active, please let the church know. The job is simple: you pick a place, make a reservation for the group and follow up with a sign up sheet and call in the number. Thank you St. James for your friendship and love through the years - we will miss you! Wes and Deborah Kiel

FRESH PEACHES AND PEARS FOR SALE!

Bellevue Lions Club is again selling these for our Annual Fundraiser. Many past buyers have told me “these are the best peaches”! The cost is $40 per lug. A lug of peaches is 20 pounds. A lug of pears is 40 pounds. We will also sell half lugs for $20. These will come from either Colorado or Utah, depending on the growing conditions. They usually deliver mid to late August or possibly early September. Bob Robeson and Tami Prentis are teaming up to sell this year to St. James customers. We appreciate all of the faithful buyers from past years. To place an order, email Tami Prentis at [email protected] or call 402-707-9295. Leave a message if you get voicemail. Thank you in advance for supporting the Bellevue Lions Club!! ~ Tami Prentis
