  • The Mermaid Tower

    By Chloe C.

Adaptation of the Princess and the Frog, Tangled, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast

Once upon a time… there was a young girl

named Tiana, and she loved to cook for her mom.

Sadly, her dad was dead and she had to work very

hard to pay off the funeral debts.

One day as she was looking out her window,

she wished upon a star that she could stop working

  • and still have money to buy her restaurant. All of

a sudden she heard a croak coming from her

windowsill. There was a big, green frog.

She slowly picked it up. Brought it to her lips

and… hurled it back into the forest because she

HATED frogs. Then she went screaming to her

    mommy’s room.

    The Strange Siblings

Standing in front of the door to her mom’s

room stood a tall man in a purple suit and hat

  • next to a woman with blackish, grayish, frizzy

hair. “Hello little girl,” said the man in the

purple outfit. “I’m Dr. Facilier and this is my

sister Madame Gothel. Would you like to go to

a place where you would never have to work again?

Tiana, forgetting the rule, ‘never talk to

strangers’ said, “Of course.” “Then follow us.”

    said Madame Gothel.

*Authors note for the strange siblings and the hidden tower. In

order to keep the story in balance I cannot include picture for the

tower. If you wish to see it just watch Tangled.

  • The Hidden Tower

Tiana followed them all the way to a secret

grove with a small forest, a pond, a garden, and

many other little areas such as a craft station and

a woodworking shop. The whole area was bathed

in sunshine and cute animals all around. But in

the center of all of it was a magnificent tower

with stone walls covered in vines with a balcony

with railing and purple shingles covering the

    pointed roof.

  • “You can go anywhere in this area as long as you

promise to follow a couple of simple rules,” said

Madame Gothel. “You have to promise that you

will never leave this grove or try to contact people

outside. As well as always wash your hands after

you do something particularly messy, and never use

the wood working shop or anything like that

without one of us. Your bed is in the tower, so you

shall sleep there. Feel free to eat outside except

when it’s raining…. Do you know how to cook?”

  • “Yes, I can cook just about anything.” said

Tiana. “Good. So feel free to use the stove and

any of the ingredients anywhere in the grove. If

you need more, ask one of us and we can go get

some more for you .Stairs are in the back of the

tower, your bedroom is on the second floor of the

tower and the bathrooms across the hall. Because

you have the balcony room, always use the railing.

Dr. Facilier’s and my room are on the top floor

so always knock and wait for us before you go in.

  • Kitchen is on the main floor as well as the couch

and table. You can explore the rest of the tower

but I would advise you not to go in the basement

because of the rats. If you would like to go out of

the grove on holidays, we can take you to town or

to the beach or anywhere like that. You can keep

1 pet in here as long as it’s not a pony. And

finally, you can call me Mother Gothel and my

    brother Father Voodoo.

    The Explanation

  • If you know the story of Tangled you’re

probably confused by why Mother Gothel is being

so nice to Tiana. If you haven’t watched Tangled

and are completely in the dark then I highly

suggest you watch it for it’s a great movie. You

see, Old Mother Gothel has already learned her

lesson with dealing with kidnapped people and so

has Father Voodoo, so they decided they would try

again, this time being a bit stricter about things.

But when they saw Tiana, they wanted her all to

  • themselves so they decided to raise her as their own

in the tower giving her more freedom than anyone

that has ever been kidnaped has been given. So

Tiana grew up in a life of semi- luxury. Now

    back to the story.

  • Tiana’s New Life

As soon as Father Voodoo got back with

Tiana’s stuff, she moved into her new home. To

her surprise there were a lot of hair products

  • everywhere. Seeing her surprise, Mother Gothel

explained, “This place used to be a hotel and the

person before you had a lot of hair.”

    “Oh.”

When she was done putting away her stuff,

she ran to all the little areas in alphabetical

    order.

After she was done exploring the grove, Tiana

went looking for her house pet. As she was sitting

in the apple tree, she spotted a small green

  • chameleon stuck in a branch. She quickly

untangled it and brought it up to her room. She

used some extra cloth she had gotten from the

sewing area for its bed. Her mind was made up.

This was her new pet. And its name was Pepper.

    Pepper

A major plus of having a chameleon as a pet

is you never have to worry about hair everywhere.

  • Also chameleons are very capable of getting their

own food and water. However, they are

chameleons so if you plan on keeping them make

sure you have a keen eye for things that aren’t

there. Luckily for Tiana, Pepper seemed to love

her and was very helpful to her. For example, if

she was in the kitchen with her hands full she

might need Pepper to grab a faraway ingredient or

turn the page to a recipe book. And when she was

  • messy (for she often was) Pepper could go upstairs

and turn on the water in the bathroom tub.

    Christmas

  • Tiana lived happily in the tower and soon

forgot all about her previous life. And then there

was Christmas. Tiana had never really enjoyed

Christmas before because her family was too poor

to afford anything special. But now that she lived

with Mother Gothel and Father Voodoo,

holidays were a time of merriment. She got to go

  • into the town near the grove and buy Christmas

gifts for her, M.G. and F.V.D. After that

she got to go to the pine tree forest and Father

Voodoo cut down the biggest, greenest pine tree and

brought it back to the grove. On Christmas Eve

Tiana helped decorate the tree with lights, tinsel

and ornaments of all sort. Then she went to work

in the kitchen creating the most delicious, melt in

your mouth, chocolate chip cookies for Santa.

That evening she sat before the fire with hot

  • chocolate and cookies until she fell asleep. The

next morning Tiana raced downstairs to a tree full

of presents. She spent the best half-hour of her

life opening those presents. She had her favorite

chocolate pancakes for breakfast and spent the rest

of the day making snowmen/women, snow angels,

snow forts and having snowball fights.

    The Mermaid

  • One day in the spring, as Tiana was swimming in

the pond she spotted a colorful flash under water.

Taking a big breath, Tiana dove under water and

swam to where she saw the flash. She was

expecting a colorful fish or piece of coral, but

what she found was much different. What she

found was a mermaid with red hair, a green tail

  • and purple seashell bra. “Hi! I’m Arial and this

is Flounder!” she said, energetically gesturing to a

blue and yellow striped fish hiding behind her.

“H-hi,” the fish stuttered. ”Oh you look like

you’re running out of air!” Tiana was bright red

and becoming limp. “Here, have this necklace.”

Arial quickly fastened a seashell necklace around

Tiana’s neck but she kept getting redder and redder

    until she finally passed out.

  • When she woke up she found herself in a

giant seashell with Arial… and promptly barfed

all over it. “Sorry. What happened to me?

Where am I? Why does my mouth taste like

barf?” “Well, you ran out of air and passed out,

so I brought you to the hospital in Atlantis, next

to my palace. And your mouth tastes like barf

because you just barfed all over my expensive

seaweed sheets.” “Sorry. I guess I’m not in heaven

then, because I’m pretty sure in heaven you can’t

  • barf and there aren’t any critical mermaid

angles.” “I should probably return you to the

surface now.” “Will I ever see you again?”

“Well I usually hang around that spot so

probably.” “Can I ask you 1 more question?”

“Sure.” “I thought at the end of your movie your

father gave you legs.” “All he did was give me a

fish bowl to put my tail in and a wheeled platform

for it to rest on.” Tiana visited Arial many times

    after that.

  • The Dream

One night Tiana had a dream about a strange

woman who looked a lot like her. In the dream

the woman was her mother, and when she woke,

she remembered that fateful night many months

ago. The night where she had broken the number

one rule: don’t talk to strangers. She remembered

  • her mom and her dad, her house and her former

friends. She was very tired and confused.

That morning she causally mentioned it to

Mother Gothel, what she was hoping for she did

not know. “Please Tiana, let me explain.” “No!

So it is true! You’re not my parents!” Then she

went sobbing out to the pond, clutching Pepper and

the seashell necklace. She jumped in as soon as she

    reached the pond bank.

  • She soon met Arial near the place where they

first met and sobbed out all that had happened and

how she wanted to go home to her mother but she

loved M.G and F.V.D. and the tower and

Pepper and she just sobbed until she ran out of

    tears to cry.

When Arial could talk she said,” Do you

want to see your mom through this magic mirror I

found? Oh that ship was so much fun to explore.

I also found an old set of china, a candle stick an

  • old clock… (She went on for a bit about that

ship but I won’t include that) but any way you

can see your mom in this thing. Isn’t that neat?”

So Tiana returned to the surface, dried off, and

went over to her tree house to try out the magic

mirror. To her delight it worked and in the mirror

she saw her mom smiling up at her.

    The Mirror

  • Now you might be surprised if you were

Tiana’s mom to see your lost daughter’s face in a

mirror. Then clearly you are not from New

Orleans. This stuff happens all the time there for

do not forget, voodoo is apparently a typical magic

to come across in the streets. So no, Tiana’s mom

    was not surprised.

  • Now Tiana and her mom had a long talk

about what happened and decided that Tiana

would ask her non-parents if her mom could come

    live with them.

So at dinner that evening, when everyone was

there, Tiana asked the question and, still feeling

guilty about it, her non-parents agreed.

    The  trip

  • For her birthday on Saturday, they decided to

go to Tiana’s old house to pick up her mother.

When they came back her mother moved in, choose

a tabby cat for her pet, and they all lived happily

    ever after.
