You have in your hands the second edition of the Film Guide: Greece. It is the result of the collective efforts of the entire Greek audiovisual industry, from the Greek Film Centre, to production companies, distributors, and screen owners. This guide is published within the frameworks of the Creative Europe Programme – an aspiring successor to the well-known MEDIA program, which has been a great financial boost to European film production, together with Eurimages and SEE Cinema Network, also Europe-financed and implemented. The main aim of the Guide is to create a useful tool for bringing Greek and foreign professionals together and to give an overview of the latest changes and developments in the domestic film industry. The Greek Film Centre, still the sole public organization responsible for the promotion of cinema in Greece, gives, and will continue to give, its outmost to support the Greek film industry in the best possible way both domestically and internationally.
The MEDIA sub-program of Creative Europe supports European film and audiovisual industries in the development, distribution and promotion of their work. The program supports projects with a European dimension while also enabling them to seek markets beyond national and European borders. Funding is also available for training, development and new technologies. Creative Europe Desk Greece is helping Greek creative and audiovisual sectors to access funding from Creative Europe program.

Inter alia, TIFF features the International Competition section, with first and second films of directors from all over the world. TIFF’s Agora / Industry connects film industry professionals from all over the world with a special focus on Southeastern Europe, the Balkan and Mediterranean regions. It includes the following sections: Agora Film Market, Crossroads Co-production Forum, Agora Works in Progress and Locarno Industry Academy international.
Thess International Short Film Festival is focusing on cutting-edge fiction films. However documentaries, animation, experimental films of outstanding quality will certainly be considered. TiSFF is an annual event. Having just completed its 10th anniversary edition, TiSFF remains in the list of the 45 best shorts festivals worldwide, and top 28 european festivals, based on film selection and program. For the Balkan area the festival is definitely one of the most influential ones for short films. Renowned for its selection and screening of progressive and high quality films.
The Thessaloniki Documentary Festival – Images of the 21st Century taking place annually in March, aims to inform, sensitize and mobilize the audience about critical issues which require the audience’s active participation. Parallel market events include: the DocMarket, Docs in Progress and Docs in Thessaloniki with the collaboration of the European Documentary Network.

The Greek Union of Film, Television and Audiovisual Technicians is a first-degree trade corporation, which was founded in 1948 and has members from all the specialties of the audiovisual field. Specifically, there are included 56 specialties from the following branches: Direction, Production, Cinematography, Set - Costumes designing, Sound recording, Editing, Make-up, Electricians, Special Effects, Laboratories, Television, Broadcasting, Recording, New Technologies. The aims of E.T.E.K.T. - O.T. are the professional and legal ensuring of its members as well as the rendering of motives for cultural activation. Further objectives of the Union are the full technical education of its members, the promotion and recognition of Greek cinematography both in Greece and abroad and the contribution in proving the cultural identity of our country.
The Hellenic Film Academy (HFA) was founded
on November 23, 2009 in Athens in order to
gather under the same roof all the film people of
Greece who consistently and in duration shape the
country’s “filmscape”. The HFA’s primary focus is to
hold the Annual National Film Awards. Moreover,
the HFA leads and supports initiatives regarding
the development of domestic film production, and
outsources research projects aiming to improve
national film policy. The HFA is also active in film
education and training. It holds open discussions
and lectures for film professionals and organizes
seminars and workshops for film students or/and
anyone who’s interested in film art and practice.
In collaboration with the European Film Academy,
and other film Academies of Europe, the HFA
organizes international film events. As a member
of the Film Academy Network of Europe, the HFA
contributes to the discussion on the future of
Europe’s film industry and policy.
ESPEK exists from 1991 and has its current name from 1994. All its members are film directors who most of the times are producers of their own films. Today counts 116 members and among them there are both established directors and young talents. ESPEK’ s main purpose is protection and promotion of Greek cinema in Greece and abroad. ESPEK is a member of FERA (Federation of European Film Directors).
