The Connection Christ Beside Me, Christ Within Me

It has been a joy to share in our first worship services. I appreciate your enthusiasm in learning about “Bless to me” prayers that come from Keltic Christianity. These prayers express gratitude for simple everyday things and recognizing God is there inn that moment. “Bless to me this quiet mo-ment walking my dog, my faithful companion.” “Bless to me this cup of

coffee, bless the beans and those who picked them.” “Bless to me this Sabbath day, space to rest, to play, to feel the fullness of life.” “Bless to me as I pack boxes of food; taking with a mama holding a baby with two other toddlers in tow.” You may want to remember several spiritual practices that help you experience the summertime blessings. Slow down; enjoy the present moment, sit longer at the table. Rest; setting aside unhur-ried time walking, hiking, going on a picnic, floating down the river, developing good habits of work and rest. Unplug; communicating face to face, abstaining from video recreation. Practice “Bless to me” prayers; being grateful and knowing the Holy Spirit is a faith-ful companion. My thoughts for this series has come from these resources; Christ Beside Me, Christ Within Me by Beth Richardson, The Celtic Way of Prayer by Esther De Waal, and Spiritu-al Disciplines Handbook by Adele Calhoun. I appreciate Zach Fulbright, Michael Bell and our choir for their talents and leadership in leading worship. I look forward to more wor-shipful moments ahead.

Faithfully yours,

Rev. David Lawrence

ASHE COUNTY HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

DEDICATES HOME FOR JOHNSON FAMILY

A nice crowd of volunteers and supporters welcomed Veda Johnson, and her children Elena and Ripley, to their new home at 115 Forest Oak Lane in Jefferson on Sunday, July 23. This home dedication was Number 4 for Ashe County Habitat. Following a welcome by ACHFH Vice President Linda McLintock, the Reverend David Lawrence led those attending in prayer and the Litany of Dedication. After the introduction of the family, presentation of a Bible, and presentation of a hammer (Habitat’s symbolic offering to each new partner family), Veda was presented with the key to her new home. Pastor Lawrence closed the ceremony with a prayer. Guests toured the new home and enjoyed refreshments provided by the ACHFH board. Veda is employed by attorney Andrew Jackson in Jefferson. The John-son children will be attending Mountain View Elementary School in the fall.

Ashe County Habitat for Humanity is an all volunteer group. If you know someone who needs a new home and could benefit from partnering with Ashe Habitat, please contact them at 336-846-2525 or www.ashehabitat.org. They are always looking for partner fami-lies.

ROCKIN’ JUMP— THE ULTIMATE TRAMPOLINE PARK

The youth traveled to the air bound trampoline park in Winston Salem, NC, where they participated in a day full of un activities including the 360° slam dunk zone, rock climbing wall, X Beam Jousting, Dodge Ball Arena and the trampoline open jump area. They ended the day chilling out with Mario’s Pizza and ice cold sweet tea.

CAROWINDS

The youth celebrated the end of summer enjoying the sun and thrilling rides at Carowinds Theme Park on July 24th. They ended the day with dinner at Chili’s. A special thank you to our parent vol-unteers: April Reed, Michelle Keith and Kevin Wonsick.

As our summer winds down and we look ahead to a new school year, I want to say thank you to the children, youth, and families of Jeffer-son United Methodist Church. Because of your love, encourage-ment, trust, and support, our youth and children have had the op-portunity to grow closer with each other as well as meet new people too. I am excited about our children and youth here and again thank you so very much for helping to make this an amazing summer for us all.

Welcome drew flanagan, church nursery attendant! We are blessed to have on staff with us now, Drew Gale Flanagan, from Wil-mington, NC. A recent graduate from Liberty University, Drew comes to us with a wealth of childcare experiences along with impeccable references. She will be a true asset to our Youth, Children, and Family Ministries first and foremost as our Lead Nursery Worker on Sunday mornings as well as our Lead Assistant on Wednesday Evenings. We and she are very excited in how God will utilize her many gifts and talents in service of our children and fami-lies. She is a blessing indeed and I encourage you to stop by the nursery ar-ea and introduce yourself and welcome her to our church.

HOLY MOMENTS: CELEBRATING THE GIFTS OF LIFE

Bless to me, O God, each thing my eye see; Bless to me, O God, each sound my ear hears; Bless to me, O God, each odor that goes to my nostrils; Bless to me, O God, each taste that goes to my lips; Each note that goes to my song, Each ray that guides my way, Each thing that I pursue, Each lure that temps my will. The zeal that seeks my living soul, The Three that seek my heart, the zeal that seeks my living soul, The Three that seek my heart.
