A multi language user friendly control system interface is available. Custom made versions are also available. Both SAW or FCAW welding methods can be implemented on the same unit. Promotech’s portable cutting/beveling/welding machine is designed for cutting and beveling holes on flat, convex, concave surfaces, pipes, tanks and special conical shaped tubular structures such as wind towers. The MCM machines enable programmable and complete both sided oxy-fuel or plasma hole cutting and beveling all in one set up and in most cases in one operation. The MCM’s advanced

control system makes

programming fast and

without need of any

external, costly CAD/CAM

software. It contains a

library of pre programmed

basic geometrical figures

such as rectangle, circle,

ellipse and rectilinear

ellipse. It also guides the

operator through all steps

of programming till the

whole job is defined.

MCM can be equipped with SAW welding equipment (recommended).

On customer’s request the following devices (for SAW) can be installed to the MCM:

MCM can be integrated with power sources from different manufacturers in coordination

with the customer.

Integration for other welding technologies like MIG/MAG or FCAW is also possible on request.

Programming process begins by choosing a required shape from built-in library. Next an operator inputs specific dimensions related to the job at hand. (Drawing No 1)

Then the operator chooses beveling type, defines the way of burning lead-in & lead out and determines basic parameters of cutting. (Drawing No 2)

Once the necessary data is entered, numerical controller of the machine generates the torch path and angles. If the hole to be cut has got its own individual oval shape the operator can “teach” the machine and customized the hole (see MSS in next page) (Drawing No.3)

This very unique feature is highly valuable when beveling curved shapes on cone shaped convex or

concave structures. Constant beveling width with changing beveling angles is typically dependent on a

type of welding to be applied. MCM’s ability to maintain bevel width while changing the beveling angle

around the oval hole (e.g. manhole for wind towers) offers huge opportunities to save costs by

optimization of weld material deposition.

MCM machine offers a new and unique feature. This new feature has been developed especially for the

wind tower industry. A special tool and software named MSS allows to “teach” the machine an imperfect

shape of an oval hole which needs to be cut, bevelled and welded. Door frames which are welded into wind

towers usually have their individual oval shapes which are far different from each other. Thus a need for

custom made shapes each time a door frame needs to be welded into a wind tower.

MSS - measuring slide system consists of:

•measuring arm,

•sliding clamp,

•main beam with linear scale.

•software

Operator places the aluminum beam with

perpendicular measuring slide on the doorframe

and makes width measurement at selected

points (both left and right side of the frame).

Then the measured values are entered into to the machine’s controller. Next the MSS software calculates

the exact hole shape and automatically generates the torch path.

It is cost effective, precise and quick way of doorframe shape programming. The whole operation can take

a couple of minutes and each time results in close to an ideal fit between beveled hole and door frame.
