Commodore’s Comments
Hello Everyone,
The club has had some very successful social evenings over the last
couple of months. Quiz nights are very popular with a good attendance
and support. We bought the Rugby World Cup package to watch the
games and we have had some big crowds arriving early to get a seat.
The floating jetty has arrived and should be installed the next few
weeks.
Our new Bar alterations have started, and we are just finalising plans.
There may be some disruption for a little while, so please bear with us.
The busy season is nearly here, and the club has many bookings for
Christmas functions. The restaurant has been very busy on Friday &
Saturday evenings, as well as a lot of outside luncheon bookings.
For those of you planning to go fishing over the summer please check
your boats out now, it might save a lot of hassles later.
This will be my last report before
Christmas so ‘Merry Christmas’ everyone
and safe boating.
Roger Cook

‘Wind and Spray’ Newsletter
After years of the ‘Wind and Spray’ in the current format of a
magazine emailed or posted out every two months, we have
decided to change the format. So, this will be the last ‘Wind and
Spray’ as we know it now.
From next year, for the 90% of the members who receive the
regular emails with the coming events of the club, we will be
changing these to also include reports from the sections
etc. These will continue to be sent out every two weeks keeping
you up to date on a more timely basis of what's happening at the
club and coming events.
For the few members whom we haven't got email
addresses, please send yours to us so we can include you in these
regular updates. Please send your email address to
[email protected]. For those who don't have an email
address, don't worry, we will still send you monthly updates from
the club to your mailbox.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the newsletter over
the years, the article contributors, the editor, the folders and
envelopers and the delivers of the newsletters, it takes quite a
team to produce this newsletter. A special thanks to Paula Bary
who has done the Wind n Spray for many years and for Paula &
John who have delivered them to Foxton Beach addresses for
many a year also.

Sailing Report
The weather has finally turned for the better and with very little wind on offer for last Sunday’s racing, we still had a good turnout of fourteen lasers, and we know there are still more out there that want to be used. That would give us a fleet of twenty boats which any yacht club in New Zealand would be happy to have. We also have a very strong junior section, we just have to get them all out sailing at the same time. It would be awesome to see all the club Optis and Bics being used! Maybe we will aim for that for River Race day on Sunday 15 December. Over the years there have been some changes in the way that we communicate so if you are interested in sailing at the club get onto Facebook and search for "MMBC Sailing" (you can find it via the MMBC page under groups) and ask to join the group and you will be kept in the loop with all things sailing in the Manawatu. Post lots of videos (thanks Rob) and photos, it will be great to share. On Wednesday 4th December we have a group from Foxton Beach School coming to try sailing and we need lots of helpers - sailors and non-sailors, so if you can help please call me. Lots more sailing leading up to Christmas: Saturday training dates: 16th November, 30th November & 14th December Sunday racing dates: 17th November, 1st December Annual River Race - Sunday 15th December - hope to see everyone there for this one. See you out in the water

We have had a great year with most nights averaging 28-30 members
participating. Thanks to our members who have participated
throughout the year.

usually fun filled games night comprising indoor bowls, table tennis

Fishing Section Report
The summer fishing season has had a slow start with the weather being
variable to say the least. We are hoping for an improvement in the
weather in the coming weeks as we have not had a lot of luck with
choosing competition dates this year.
Coming up on 16th November is our next Club Fishing Competition –
open to all Club registered boats and financial members. Registration
is on the day from 8.30, fishing from 9am to 3pm, with prizegiving at
4pm.
The Summer Fishing Competition runs from 1 October to 31st March
and is open to all Club members, if you have a good looking Snapper,
Gurnard or Kahawai give the radio operator a call as you are coming in
the river and the weigh master will meet you at the ramp and weigh in
your fish. Remember that the maximum length of a Snapper for any
club weigh in is 600mm. The heaviest of each species each month wins
a club meal voucher.
There is also a different bonus species for each month. The bonus fish
for November is John Dory and December is Blue Cod.
Jet Ski Fishing
We have had a recent enquiry from a Jet skier wanting to know if we
have a jet ski fishing section/club. The answer is no but if there is
enough demand, we can get a group going. If you are interested in
being part of a Club Jet Ski Fishing Group email me at
Happy fishing

Message from the Radio Operators
* We would appreciate it if all boat trips are logged with the radio
operators, even those trips just in the river, as it makes it easier for us
matching boats with boat trailers in the carpark if the need arises,
* Also, when calling Foxton Sports Radio, please wait for the radio
operator to respond to you before giving your trip details please.
Thanks
