ADULT FAITH FORMATION
October was a great month for AFF. Attendance for
Feed Your Faith is growing each week. We partnered
with the Pro-Life Committee, to begin the month
showing the movie Unplanned, then followed up the
next Wednesday with practical advice on how to engage
anyone in a discussion about Pro-Life. The next two
Wednesdays Deacon Joe led us in a discussion on the
very real temptations of Vices in our lives and the
antidote, Virtues. We ended the month with Bishop
Barron’s continuing series of Pivotal Players – the
impact Flannery O’Connor’s writing has had in our
culture.
Feed Your Faith will only meet on 3 Wednesdays in
November due to the Christmas tree fund-raiser in the
Parish Hall. Join us on Nov. 6, 13, & 20 for inspiring
talks at the retreat for St. Mother Theresa’s sisters. It is
hard to choose only three; they are fabulous!
On Oct. 6, Pro-Life and AFF sponsored prayer for our
nation’s lost children by putting white crosses in our
yard, followed by the powerful witness of a Life Chain
that afternoon. On Oct. 13, God blessed us with a
beautiful day for the annual Blessing of our Pets. A
“Did You Know” series in the bulletin has begun with
helpful, yet possibly unknown, great opportunities at
Our Lady of Lourdes.
Maybe most important at OLL are the Catechesis of the
Good Shephard, PSR, and RCIA classes which have
already begun. Attendance has been great. Catechesis is
for children 3 – 9, and PSR includes children 10 – 18.
All classes are held on Sunday between the Masses.
Contact Mother Julia to enroll children, and Deacon
Richard for RCIA adults.
October ended with the first of our monthly 5-Minute
Talks after Mass. Deacon Joe announced that AFF is
now offering a Library of CDs, DVDs, and books to our
parishioners. The library will be open for borrowing any
of our resource materials beginning on November 3rd
during Friendship Sunday in the Parish Hall. Come for
food and friendship, then choose any of the following
materials to keep until the next Friendship Sunday.
Anyone wishing to borrow or return materials at another
time, or have materials to donate, may contact Ellen
Newman. A big ‘thank you’ to the Train Club who
helped us move the Library cabinet to the Parish Hall!

BUILDINGS & GROUNDS
All of our new signs are up around the OLL campus. The
previous 30 minute parking spots in the oneway area are
now labeled as ‘Church Parking Only’. We encourage
parishioners to use those spots and you can either come
into the office from the back or front entrances.
Due to the congestion of the arrival and dismal of the
children for the Three Trails school, the building and
grounds managers continues to recommend those who
need to come to the church or office at those hours to use
the northwest entrance. If the chain is up, Gerry Sharkey
usually is right there manning that area and can let you in
or out.
‘Prayer Poinsettia~ Order forms for Prayer Poinsettia's
will be available at the back of the Church beginning the
first week of Advent. Please place the forms with your
prayer intention and cash or check payable to Our Lady of
Lourdes in envelope provided and then give to an usher
after Mass, or hand in to the office. They will adorn the
Sanctuary during the Christmas Season and will be
available to take home after the Feast of the Epiphany. The
Christmas Vigil, and Christmas day Masses will be for the
Poinsettia prayer intentions.
If you would like to purchase a smaller poinsettia for one
Thank you for your prayers in helping the Catholic
Education programs that Our Lady of Lourdes offers.
We now have over 20 young students enrolled divided
between the 2 Levels.
PRAYERS NEEDED: Please continue to pray for the
twenty plus young people who are in our parish’s
catechism classes. After high school a large number of
Catholic young people leave the practice of their faith,
and some of them even lose it completely. We do have
to ask the question, “What should we be doing about
this?” Certainly one necessary answer is to pray for
them. Of course, a very good religious education
program in the parish will be a positive factor. This
year’s religious education teachers wish to thank all of
you who have most generously helped us in many
wonderful ways to introduce the new Catechesis of the
Good Shepherd classes here at Our Lady of Lourdes.
Just call the office if you too wish to help.
Hello from PSR!! We have had a wonderful start to our
classes this year and it’s been fun getting to know
everyone in our group. Our discussions have been lively
and wonderful! The kids are asking awesome questions
and it’s been so fun seeing their eyes light up when they
start to understand the beauty of our Faith! Please pray
for the kids in PSR as they are the future of our beautiful
Church!!
Lord, we place into your hands all the work we do with
our wonderful children. Please lead us by your Spirit to

LIFE CHAIN
Thank you for all those who were able to come out
Sunday October 6, 2019 to support Life for the
unborn. God's blessings to all those who made the
sacrifice to come and for all those who supported
us through their prayers. Let us continue to fight
the good fight for the greater Glory of God!
The committee and its awesome volunteers have been hard
at work creating funds to help support our parish programs.
Our garage sale was a big success and nut sales are off to a
great start with the Trains & Treats event. Nut sales will
continue every Sunday after 8 am and 11 am Masses until
the Christmas Wonderland opens on Black Friday,
November 29, 2019 where they will be available.
We are also starting plans for the annual OLL Christmas
Garage Sale. Christmas items only, in good clean condition,
will be accepted every Sunday in the Parish Hall starting
November 3rd from noon to 2pm. Please do not leave items
outside the hall or in the main room. They must be carried
upstairs to the Parish Hall attic. We will try to have
volunteers available to help carry but please try to bring
help if you need it.
A famous convert of our time, Peter Kreeft, wrote the
following.
"Reading the Bible should be a form of prayer. The Bible
should be read in God’s presence and as the unfolding of
His mind. It is not just a book, but God’s love letter to
you. It is God’s revelation, God’s mind, operating
through your mind and your reading, so your reading is
your response to His mind and will. "
One special way to be in God's presence is accessible to
you 24/7 in OLL's Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Bible is
always in prie-dieu. If church door is locked, just knock.
— Peter Kreeft
mous convert of our time, Peter Kreeft wrote the
following.
Here is one way to fulfill your Catholic calling to
evangelize. Take a few minutes of your time each week
to stop in to OLL's Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration
Chapel (open 24/7) reverencing the personal presence of
Christ. St. Pope John Paul II encouraged every Catholic
to integrate faith taught by faith lived. Then you can
fulfill your role as an evangelist for Christ by
encouraging others to do the same.

Conception Seminary College to Host
Annual Fall Play
Conception Seminary College will present their annual
fall theater production, entitled Greater Tuna, by Jaston
Williams, Joe Sears, and Ed Howard. The play is a looney, hilarious comedy send-up of small-town morals and mores. The entire play takes place over a single day in the life of Tuna, where anybody’s business is everybody’s business. The glue of the town is the local radio station where all the town news, regardless of significance, is broadcast.
Production dates are Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9 at 8
p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. in St. Michael Hall
Gymnasium on the Conception Seminary College campus in
Conception, Mo.
Admission is $10.00 with children 12 and under
free. No reservations needed. Pay at the door.
Seating is on a first come, first served basis.

thanks for the many blessings we have and celebrating
Thanksgiving as a Parish Family.

SPIRITUAL ADOPTION
A Reminder
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you
to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually
adopted who is in danger of abortion.
Prayer of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
Month 2:
Keep praying for me! I am two months old now and about
2 inches long. Look you can see my eyes, nose and
mouth, I will use them to experience God's world after I
am born.
During your earthly life this spiritually adopted child of
yours will be known only to God but in the world to come it
is hoped that you will meet the child whose life was spared
by your prayers and spend eternal happiness with them.
40 DAYS FOR LIFE THE REASON WE PRAY AND FAST: We are Storming
the gates with our corporate prayer for the ENDING of
abortion in our land. In love and unity we will stand on the
sidewalk entreating our God for a breakthrough, NO
MATTER the COST, WE WILL Stand! May the enemy of
our souls be defeated and the unborn saved from his wicked
plans.
There is still time to pray at the Planned Parenthood at
4840 College Blvd. Overland Park, Kansas. Closing
ceremony for 40 Days for Life is at 3:00 P.M. November 3,
2019. All are welcome to come.
Continued ~ PRO-LIFE FIRST SATURDAY
A LIFE-LONG DEVOTION
Not merely five First Saturdays
A requirement of Christian Charity
The promise associated with the practice of the devotion on five consecutive First Saturdays has been mistakenly construed by many to mean that once one has completed a series of five in succession they have accomplished the
practice of the devotion – that they are finished. This was not Our Lady’s intention in making the promise and
has resulted in a far fewer people practicing the devotion’s than are necessary to fulfill her request. This is one reason why wars, famines and persecutions of the
Church and of the Holy Father have increased rather than abated.

TRAIN CLUB
Our 2nd Annual Trains ‘N’ Treats October 19th was as
much fun for us as it was for the huge crowd that
showed up. We had between 1200—1500 visiters from
all ages. There were so many cute and creative
costumes from a little toddler in a ‘Pineapple’ costume
to a dad and son dressed as ‘Thing 1 & Thing 2’. It was
obvious that KCWolf was a big hit putting smiles on
almost all of those that attended.
Many thanks to
all who donated
candy and those
that participated
in helpping to
make this event
a great success.
Also ‘Thank you’ to
everyone who attended.
I think everyone had a
good time.
Our next big show will
be the second weekend
of December at the
