The Lord’s Day
AUGUST 23, 2020 11:00 a.m.
GREETINGS
CALL TO WORSHIP Rev. David Hall
*HYMN “O Thou That Hear’st When Sinners Cry” #485
*INVOCATION
*CONFESSION OF SIN: (Unison)
Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from thy ways, like
lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
We have offended against your holy laws. We have left undone those things which
we ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have
done; and there is no health in us. O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders.
Spare those, O God, who confess their faults. Restore those who are penitent;
According to your promises declared unto mankind, in Christ Jesus our Lord. And
grant, O merciful Father, for his sake; that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous,
and sober life, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.
*ASSURANCE OF PARDON: Psalm 32:1-2, 5b
Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed
is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and in whose spirit is
no deceit. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord”—and you forgave
the guilt of my sin.
*HYMN OF AFFIRMATION “Come, We That Love the Lord” #700
PASTORAL PRAYER Rev. David Barry
PSALTER READING (Unison) Psalm 94
O LORD, the God who avenges, O God who avenges, shine forth. Rise up, O Judge
of the earth; pay back to the proud what they deserve. How long will the wicked, O
LORD, how long will the wicked be jubilant? They pour out arrogant words; all the
evildoers are full of boasting. They crush your people, O LORD; they oppress your
inheritance. They slay the widow and the alien; they murder the fatherless. They
say, “The Lord does not see; the God of Jacob takes no heed.” Take heed, you
senseless ones among the people; you fools, when will you become wise? Does he
who implanted the ear not hear? Does he who formed the eye not see? Does he who
disciplines nations not punish? Does he who teaches man lack knowledge? The
LORD knows the thoughts of man; he knows that they are futile. Blessed is the man
you discipline, O LORD, the man you teach from your law; you grant him relief from
days of trouble, till a pit is dug for the wicked. For the LORD will not reject his
people; he will never forsake his inheritance. Judgment will again be founded on
righteousness, and all the upright in heart will follow it. Who will rise up for me
against the wicked? Who will take a stand for me against evildoers? Unless the
LORD had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death. When I
said, “My foot is slipping,” your love, O LORD, supported me. When anxiety was
great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul. Can a corrupt throne be
allied with you— one that brings on misery by its decrees? They band together
against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. But the LORD has become
my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge. He will repay them for
their sins and destroy them for their wickedness; the LORD our God will destroy them.

Founded in 1850, Midway Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), a
Reformed, evangelical denomination organized in 1973. Our church seeks to be Scriptural in both its
government and its doctrine. We believe the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, our infallible and
divine authority in all matters of life and faith.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The
Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of
the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
John 1:1,14
