President’s Message
During the last month or so, I have been amazed at the number of members that are unaware of events and announcements that take place at Blue Lake Springs.
Some people say they haven’t seen the Lodge Log or haven’t received an E’MAIL BLAST announcing a special event. It would be fantastic if all members sign up for e-‐mail and when they sign up, they check all areas available for e-‐mail information. Signing up is very easy. Just go to the web site and follow the directions, and make sure you chose all the boxes that relate to e-‐mail information. Pass this information onto a friend who may not be getting the Lodge Log.
As you may have read in the unapproved minutes of the January meeting, the Board of Directors is researching the availability of grant money for the dredging of our Lakes. We are seeking a grant writer for this project. Receiving a grant for the dredging would certainly save the Association a great deal of money. In addition, the Board is looking into the feasibility of installing a prefabricated restroom at the Fly-‐In Lake area. This also would save money, as a completely new restroom would cost considerably more money. You can keep up with these projects by reading the Lodge Log as well as the Board minutes. Sign up for e-‐mail!
Keeping up with the fallen pine needles has been a constant chore this year. We all need to keep in mind that Memorial Day will be here before we know it and that means CLEANING OUR LOTS! We have had another very dry year which will bring HIGH FIRE DANGER. Let’s all get a jump start on getting our lots cleaned.
Thanks to all of the Blue Lake Springs staff for doing such a fine job and making BLS the “Jewel of Calaveras County”.

New Year’s Eve 2014 A Winter Wonderland
Snowflakes and snowballs welcomed our guests to a “Winter Wonderland” this New Year’s Eve. The Lodge
was decorated with more snowflakes and snowballs (indoors, of course) than Arnold has seen in quite some
time.
Jim and Louise Cooke greeted our guests at the door and checked their belongings. I introduced myself and
wished everyone a “Happy New Year” and directed them to Linda Penney who then gave them their assigned
table. They then went to Danny who took pictures of them in front of our beautiful “winter wonderland” theme
of trees filled with light and snow.
Tom Schneider and Paul Penney were our bartenders for the evening. The biggest hit of the evening was the
halo headbands with dangling snowflakes that the bartenders wore. Thank you, Tom and Paul. “You are the
best.”
Appetizers were passed during cocktail hour and eventually everyone was escorted to the dining room for a
wonderful sit-down dinner. The dining room was aglow with an abundance of lights. The tables were lit with apothecary jars filled with different outdoor scenes.
Danny welcomed our guests and then the most wonderful dining experience began. Our meal consisted of
French onion soup, salmon and fennel cakes, Belgian endive salad and Korubuta pork with pomegranate balsamic. Our meal ended with dessert and coffee. A beautiful table scape consisted of a winter wonderland
scene and cake pops. Amber Sitter did a beautiful job. Our compliments go out to Chef Marc and his entire
staff.
Dancing lasted until the New Year was counted down. Our wonderful DJ, Kim Evans, provided her expertise
to our guests.
This wonderful evening could not have been made possible without you, our guests. Your continued support
of our events here at the Lodge make evenings like this possible. Thank you for attending.
Amber Sitter and the staff at Snowflake were instrumental in helping with decorations. A heartfelt thanks goes out to them.
The biggest “props” goes to Linda and Paul Penney, Louise and Jimmie Cooke, Denise and Tom Schneider,
and Pat Forsea. Your help and knowledge was truly appreciated. Thank you!!!

Well it is time to get the rakes out shake the dust off them and enjoy working outdoors in the mountains. First CAL FIRE Inspection of your Property will be June 1st and Second Inspection will be July 7th.
The past years we have not written up properties that have contracts with Lot Cleaners but have monitored those properties to see that all the work was done including the 30 to 100 foot rules. We continued to receive lists from Lot Cleaners of contracted properties past the 1st inspection time. This will not be done this year, that procedure pushed our property inspections way in to late October. The new procedure will be “ALL PROPERTY OWNERS CONTRACTING WITH A LOT CLEANER MUST DO SO BY MAY 18TH”. Lot cleaners will then send me a list of their contracted customers for Blue Lake Springs before 1st Inspection date. These property owners will not be given a CAL FIRE Inspection Notice during 1st or 2nd Inspection. I will work with the Lot cleaners regarding the time to get their work done. Any Property owner that contracts with a lot Cleaner after May 18th will receive a CAL FIRE Inspection Notice if there are issues with their property and will have till 2nd Inspection to get the work done. I only work this procedure with the Lot Cleaners that attend the April Lot Cleaners Meeting. This is a special consideration because of the size of our subdivision and the size of the work load for our Lot Cleaners during the year. I do monitor the contracted properties to see they get cleaned and I am in touch with these Lot Cleaners all the time.
It is very important that ALL home owners bring their properties to compliance with the PRC4291 Rules, unloading all the Fire Fuel you can on your property from the ground to 15 or 20 feet above the ground. You are number 1 of the 3 part phase of work in the Fire Prevention of the whole Ebbetts Pass Community that is going on as I write. The #2 Phase is a perimeter Fire Break around our BLS Subdivision which we have applied for a Grant to get this work done, it looks good for us right now to receive this Grant. This work will be almost the same as your 30 to 100 foot PRC4291 rules (NOT clear cutting). The U S Forest Service, Big Trees State Park and SPI will be doing this to their properties that border our Subdivision, their work should be completed in the next 2 years. Those of you with properties bordering properties outside the BLS Subdivision will be receiving letters when all this work is planned to be done. The 3rd Phase of these Fire Prevention Projects is a Perimeter Fire Break around the Ebbetts Pass and Arnold area. Some of this work is already done and some of it is taking place right now. We hope that in 3 years we will be able to say we have the best chance possible to save our community in a Wild Land Fire, the Fire People think we will but you have to do your part on your properties to make this work.
We have been accepted as a Firewise Community. A lot of work went into this and we could not have gotten through the application process without the help of CAL FIRE and Louise Cooke. Good things will come of this. This is a big thing for you as Home owners. This will be even better when all the other subdivisions are Firewise Designated. We will be working with the next 4 largest Subdivisions to become Firewise Designated this year.
Pete Padelford, your CAL FIRE VIP Coordinator
