There may be times during the school year where inclement weather or other situations could cause transportation cancellations or school closures. At times when student transporta-tion has been cancelled and schools remain open, the decision of whether or not to have children in school on that day rests with the parent or guardian. Should you decide not to send your child to school in the event that transportation is cancelled but schools remain open, or if your child is ill or late, please en-sure that you call your child’s school to inform them of your child’s absence. A key resource in any emergency is the DSBN Emergency Infor-mation form that you filled out at the beginning of the school year. Please let the school know of any changes in contact information or

procedures you wish to be fol-lowed throughout the school year. For secondary schools it may be-come necessary to cancel late bus-es. Notice will be provided via school announcements and on the websites and subscription features by 11:30 a.m. Information about transportation cancellations and school closures will be available as soon as it is available through the following channels: BUS STUDENTS: If transportation is canceled and your child is staying home, please notify the school! Holiday Break 2017-2018

Begins Monday, December 25.

Classes resume Monday, January 8.

Throw No Snow

Yes, that is the Lockview policy.

Throwing snow jeopardizes the

safety of other students. At Lockview, an-

nouncements will be made often throughout the

season in this respect. We take this rule very

seriously. Any snow throwing will be regarded

as deliberate defiance. Failure to comply with

this rule will be dealt with through warnings, de-

tentions, communication with home and loss of

privileges. We encourage you to talk with your

child about their responsibility to play safely.

Book Fair Success!

Thank you to all the students and Lockview com-munity members who supported our annual Book Fair in November. Once again, we surpassed $3000.00 in sales! The profits from the fair will be spent on new books for our library collection. Congratulations to Sophie in Grade 3 who was the winner of our draw for $25 worth of books for

her family and $25 for her classroom. Ms. Ellwood was happy to choose some new books for their classroom library!

A HOLIDAY MOOSICAL!

Over the last several weeks, our grade 1 to 3 students have been working diligently on a holiday concert. They are having a fantastic time rehearsing and are eager to share their hard work with the Lockview com-munity! “A Holiday Moosical” will also feature some of our junior and intermediate students as actors. Productions will take place on Wednesday December 20th at 1:30 pm and 6:30 pm. There will be no charge for admission but the audience is asked to bring donations of non-perishable foods or new toys for Commu-nity Care on the day of the performance. All of our Lockview families are invited to attend.

Please see the important note sent home with primary students and members of our cast and

crew to order tickets!

A Message from Public Health: Clean Your Hands Cleaning your hands is the most effective way to prevent the spread of germs. Regular hand cleaning with soap and water, or an alcohol based hand sanitizer will reduce the risk of getting sick. Cleaning your hands should occur:

Before preparing meals Before eating After using the washroom After coughing or sneezing After blowing your nose After playing with pets After playing outdoors

Use warm water and soap and lather and scrub for at least 15 seconds if your hands are visibly dirty. For more information, talk to your school nurse or go to www.niagararegion.ca/health.

Hour of Code at Lockview! We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works. That’s why our entire school is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Com-puter Science Education Week (December 4-10). Our Hour of Code is making a statement that Lockview is ready to teach these foundational 21st century skills.

We are also working towards a DSBN goal to log 2,000,000 minutes of coding!

Hour of Code activities provide students with a basic introduction to computer science at a level that is appropriate to their age and stage of development. Activities range from simple to complex and help nurture creativity and problem-solving skills.

Check out hourofcode.com or code.org at home!

Education Foundation of Niagara Thank your child’s teacher this holiday with a tribute gift to the Foundation. All proceeds provide basic necessities for DSBN stu-dents! An acknowledgement holiday card will be sent to your teacher in your child’s name! Visit efnniagara.ca to donate! Or call 905-641-2929 x 37712 or email [email protected]
