It’s very pleasing for the club to see so many of our GPS Players being selected each week. Eight GPS players were selected to play in both round one and two and a huge nine players have been selected to represent the Reds this Friday evening. We wish them well and we also look forward to them pulling on the Blue & Green jersey of GPS during the season. We have been very busy in the off-season dealing with the newly introduced ARU and QRU Levies with the governing bodies. I’m happy to say that this is now behind us and as a club we have clarity and security of the levy amounts for future seasons. That said we will continue to improve the facility here at Yoku Road, both on and off the field with no further outlay to our valuable players and membership. It’s great to welcome so many of our returning players back for the 2015 season, and the new players about to embark on what I hope is a club for life experience. We are still taking registrations but we encourage you to be quick as team selections are being finalised. We also welcome to the club our returning sponsors as well as the new businesses that have joined in supporting our community-based club. You’ll see on the new membership card a list of new players in the market and we have other great stories to tell with business’s offering great discounts to GPS Members. While on membership, we have had a small number renew their membership for the 2015 seasons. I encourage all parents and supporters who haven’t yet renewed or signed up for membership to get on board. The new member’s polo is just one of the great benefits club membership provides. I look forward to catching up with all this season and wish our players a happy, healthy and injury free season. Record Number of Gallopers play for Queensland Reds Congratulations to the eight (8) GPS players who played for the Queensland Reds in their first home game last weekend. The team took on the Western Force claiming an 18 to 6 win. GPS Rugby is extremely proud of the boys and understands the rarity of having eight players out of a 23-man squad represent a local club at one time. A significant nine (9) players GPS players will take the field tonight (27

th of February) playing the Highlanders in Dunedin. We will continue to follow the boys

tremendous efforts in the red jerseys but look forward to when they take to the field wearing green and blue.

Save the Date – 2015 GPS Tour de GPS!

Something for the Ladies The fact is not enough women do weight training (pump classes don’t count). Whether we’re talking about preventing osteoporosis or osteopenia, losing fat or building strength, women need to lift weights. While some women believe they will ‘build too much muscle’ (they won’t!), or it’s not necessary (it is!), many just haven’t been taught the correct technique in a safe environment. That is why Grant Jenkins, Exercise Physiologist and GPS Rugby Club’s own Director of Strength & Conditioning, is offering a ‘Learn to Lift’ for mothers, sisters and female players of the Club. The 5 personalised training sessions include:

A nutritional plan (and recipes) to help lose weight

Teach correct technique so that you can lift with competence and confidence

Address any previous injury concerns

A 6-week program to help achieve your goals

A rebate can be received through private health Valued at $400 for the package, female GPS members will receive a $150 discount during the month of March. For more details, please call Grant on 0409 625 263 or email him [email protected].

Sponsor’s Spotlight - Witches Falls Winery

When winemaker Jon Heslop decided to start the Witches Falls label, there were two things that drove him – the desire to produce unique, exceptional wines that people would love, and his belief in the incredible potential of Queensland’s Granite Belt as a premium wine-producing region. Witches Falls Winery opened in Queensland’s Gold Coast Hinterland in August 2004. Showcasing the fruit from the Granite Belt is a huge part of the Witches Falls ethos. Jon has always believed that the potential of the Granite Belt region is much underestimated and, loving a challenge as he does, has set about trying to change this by making premium, single varietal wines from this region. Building the winery on Tamborine Mountain was also part of the plan. The beautiful Gold Coast Hinterland is the ideal destination for visitors doing day trips from Brisbane and the Gold Coast, yet close enough to the Granite Belt where the grapes are grown. Fast forward ten years and the facts speak for themselves - Witches Falls wines have been delighting wine drinkers for over a decade, and the winery has been awarded consecutive 5-star ratings by James Halliday. As wine writer and critic Tony Harper so aptly put it, “Witches Falls wines shine with individuality and confidence melded with regional style.” As well as being passionate about wine, Witches Falls’ owners, Jon and his wife Kim, are also very passionate about their sport. So, when the opportunity arose to partner with such a prestigious club as GPS Rugby they jumped at the chance. Witches Falls has supported GPS Rugby Club since 2006 and is known as the club’s principal wine partner. Witches Falls have a fabulous wine club that offers members a whole host of rewards including a generous 15-20% off retail prices. GPS members are automatically given membership to this club simply by presenting their GPS membership cards in the Witches Falls Cellar Door or by emailing [email protected]. Witches Falls wines are also available in the local area at The Wine Room Ashgrove. The next couple of months will be extremely busy for the winemaking team at Witches Falls. From February through to April is Vintage when grapes are being picked and brought to the winery for processing. If you have ever wanted to witness ‘Vintage in Action’ now is the perfect opportunity. The Winery is open daily from 10am to 4pm weekdays and 10am to 5pm on weekends and is located at 79 Main Western Road, Tamborine Mountain.

GPS welcomes QUT students

Congratulations to the seven (7) QUT students who were selected to work with GPS players in strength and conditioning. Each student works with a team helping the players to improve on their on technique, fitness and overall playing ability. They also work at rehabilitating injured players. The students are all studying a Bachelor of Exercise Physiology and are completing the placement as part of their degrees. Look out for these faces around Yoku Road and at games.
