STEPHEN MINIS-TRY NEWS

I am always amazed during springtime how literally overnight it seems as if the grass turns green and the trees bud. Springtime is truly a time of new beginning. So how appropriate it is that at LOUMC every spring we celebrate the men and women that serve as Stephen Ministers. On Sunday May 31st we are thrilled to be welcoming 5 new individuals that have taken the time out of their busy lives to step forward and commit to help those that are hurting. This year we welcome Meaghan Cole, Carolyn Eickel, Bob Erickson, Suzanne Osborne and Ann Par-ker. Each of these individuals posses unique and exceptional gifts in the caring department. They will most certainly be a great source of comfort to whomev-er God places in their lives to help. On May 31st we also will be welcoming back Joyce Falls and Jan Butcher to our group after some time off. These women, like the individuals above, are nothing short of Christian Care Givers at their best! Continuing on and being re-commissioned are some of the most caring men and women you will ever meet. We are so grateful for the support of: Gina Adams , Kim Ahlborn , Doug Bastain, Stacy Dodson, Becki Doyle, Cynthia Du, Sue Erickson, Marilyn Gaskins, Carol Hassberger, Marcia Keller, Christine Kim, Joyce Marker, Tim Marker, Carol McCormick, Sandy Reile, Ralph Reseigh, Brenda Brubaker-Ulery, Gail Vettraino, Charlie Weaver and Jeff Weaver. On a different note, in support of the Addiction Support Ministry we have started here at LOUMC we are excited to announce that on May 4th. CROP Walk with a Twist

LOUMC is again participating in the Lake Orion/Oxford Crop Walk on May 3! The Crop Walk raises money to support CWS, Love Inc, and FISH. This year we thought we’d Jazz it up with a Pastor Challenge. All walkers will be assigned to either the Waltzin’ Wiks or the Disco Balls. Whichever team Ponies up the most money will win and the captain of the other team will perform a fabulous dance for the congregation! Our goal is to raise $2000 this year. So Hustle down to the fellowship hall between services to sign up to be a walker, or Stroll over to our display board to find a walker you’d like to support. You can also Tap on your keyboard and make an

online donation at http://hunger.cwsglobal.org/goto/loumc.

BLOOD DRIVE Thursday, May 7th - 1:30 - 7:15

Please consider donating blood here in the fellowship hall on May 7th. If you are unable to donate, please spread the word that we are hosting a drive so we can have a full schedule! Our goal is to fill 50 appointments - I know we can do it! I am also in need of volunteers that day to help run the drive. If you are interested in donating blood or would like to volunteer your time to help make our blood drive a success, please contact Shareen DiGasbarro at 248-628-2431 or email at shareen [email protected]. If you would like to schedule your own appointment you can go to redcrossblood.org and click on "make a blood donation appointment". You can then scroll down to find our church name and schedule your own appointment! It is that easy!

Get ready to travel back in time

for a life-changing adventure!

VBS 2015, July 27-31

9:00 a.m. - Noon

Each day begins at Blast to the Past Bash where kids will sing, shout, praise, pray, and be introduced to a Bible story and the daily theme. Then they travel to the other sites at Bible Blast to the Past: Timeless Truth Tent where kids will explore the Bible story in a variety of interactive ways; Backtrack Bazaar where kids have time to move around, have fun, and fill up on snacks; Discovery Ruins where kids discover ancient arts and facts through science and crafts; and Mission Quest Cave where kids are encouraged to serve others! All these fun activities connect to the Bible story and the timeless truth of God’s everlasting love! And at the end of the morning, they travel back to Bible Blast to the Past Bash to be encouraged to love God and to be motivated to serve others.

It takes a lot of teens and adults to bring our VBS to life, so we hope you will consider saving this one week in July to be involved in this awesome ministry for our children. Contact Donna Waite at 248-693-6201, ext. 206, or you can e-mail her at [email protected] if you would like to be involved in VBS in some way. Registration for children attending VBS will begin May 31. The registration form will be available on the church website, www.lakeorionumc.org, at the church and in the June LINK. We will be waiting for some brave time travelers to join us in learning about God, serving others, and having fun!! Spread the word!!

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR VBS: Two 4x8 sheets of pegboard Large pieces of flat cardboard (i.e. from mattress or appliance)

ITEMS TO BORROW: Flashing multicolored Christmas lights Strobe lights or lava lamps

Please contact Donna Waite if you have these items.

United Methodist Men

The United Methodist Men will be meeting on Saturday, May 2th at 7:30 a.m. They meet at CJ’s in Lake Orion for breakfast. All of the men

of the church are invited to attend.

Kroger Card Enrollment

Hello and a big Welcome to Spring to All. Each April Kroger requires all people using their Kroger Plus cards to restate their desire as to which non-profit organization they wish to receive their support for the coming year. LOUMC has been a participant in this program for many years. We have been the recipient of an average of $1,000 per quarter from this easy fund raiser since its inception. The money raised is combined with funds raised from the LOUMC Scrip program to help fund ministries near and dear to the heart and fabric of the church. 20% of all money made benefits the church's general fund. Kroger is very generous to offer this opportunity and we are fortunate to participate. Here are instructions sent from Kroger on the procedure to follow to take care of this piece of business. Please, take the few moments necessary to re-register your card, or register for the first time. Even if you do not shop at Kroger very often, every little bit helps. It is easy and has no affect on any other Kroger benefits you currently receive.

Dear Kroger Community Rewards Groups, April is just around the corner which means it is time for re-enrollment for Kroger Community Rewards Program. Here are a few things you will need to know. The organization does not need to re-enroll. All organizations will keep their NPO number that was assigned to them. Your members do need to re-enroll between April 1st 2015 and May 1st 2015 for the May 1st start of the program. To re-enroll on-line they just simply go to www.krogercommunityrewards.com *click “sign in” *enter their email and password *click “enroll now” *put in the NPO number or part of the organizations name (Lake Orion United Methodist Church) *check the correct group *click “enroll” . Once completed they are then enrolled for the charity earnings during May 1st 2015 to April 30th 2016. If someone re-enrolls after May 1st they will only earn from the day they enrolled until April 30, 2016. If it is the first time a member is enrolling they will be prompted to register their Kroger card into the program. Anyone having an issue with their email address or password can call 1-800-KROGERS for customer service.

You will know 'for sure' your card is registered by looking at the bottom of any receipt from Kroger. It will indicate that you have chosen Lake Orion United Methodist Church to receive your Community Rewards. Thank you in advance. If you have a problem that you need my help with, please do not hesitate for a moment to contact me. Your support is greatly appreciated. Peace, Sharon Keener, 248-790-9041, [email protected]

HONORING OUR MOTHERS

On Mother's Day, May 10, our church will sponsor a "Blanket Sunday" through Church World Service. On that day, you will have the opportunity to give a blanket in honor or memory of your mother, grandmother, aunt, sister or any loved one. These wool and cotton blankets are used for warmth, for shelter, and to carry one's belongings. They have been sent all around the United States and around the world to families uprooted by natural disasters and war and to people who are simply homeless. Blankets are $10.00 each and a special offering envelope will be available on Mother's Day where you can designate in whose honor or memory it is given. Checks should be made out to the church and "Blankets" written on the memo line. We will then list those donations in the following weeks' bulletin.

SINGING MOM’S PRAISE

Our Kids on the Rock children (age 3 through 3rd grade) will be singing for the Prelude at the 9:15 and 11:00 worship services on Mother’s Day, May 10

CHILDREN’S & YOUTH MINISTRIES APPRECIATION

On Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, some very dedicated and loving adults are being the hands, feet and voice of Jesus as they interact with our children and youth, helping them learn about God. To show our appreciation for their ministry, we are organizing a breakfast on Sunday, May 17th at 9:00 to thank them. Please consider showing your support by covering one of the children’s classes that day, providing food or

helping with the breakfast itself (setup, serving, or cleanup). Contact Donna Waite at 248-693-6201, ext. 206 or e-mail [email protected] to volunteer your help.
