ANTIQUE SLIDESHOW ON New England Churches 1680-1930 On Thursday, May 24 at 1:00 pm

Across the nation there is strong ad-

miration and deep respect for the ar-

chitecture of New England churches.

Some fine South Shore examples will

be noted, but we will also look wider

across New England to survey the full range of struc-

tures. Depending upon a specific church under discus-

sion, our overview will show interiors, exteriors or

both. We will also take time to examine the placement

at a specific location, and its relation to sightlines cre-

ated by landscaping and other buildings. The speaker

will be antiques writer Bob Jackman. OPTIONAL: If

you have an image of a specific church, bring it to the

show, and Bob will be happy to offer comments. While

the talk will be organized around a sequence of 70

slides, the atmosphere will be informal with questions

and answers throughout the presentation. Expect to

learn a bit, share some laughs, and have a good time. Admission is free but please sign up as refreshments

will be served.

Any senior citizen in Marshfield can grow vegetables or annual flowers (NO perennial plants) in the four raised beds located near the back door of the Senior Center. The only person who can harvest fruits, veg-etables or flowers from the raised beds is the person who planted and cultivated them. The soil is enriched with organically certified compost and the gardens are very fertile. You must weed and water your space. Water is available from a nearby outlet & hose. The location gets full sunshine. With the use of trellises it is possible to grow crops like beans over a small plot of land. Some crops like cherry tomatoes produce their largest yield in the first growth, but they will continue to produce additional crops through the growing season. Planting will begin May 1. The beds will close at the end of October when the outside water supply is turned off. If you are inter-ested in planting in these raised beds in 2018, please sign-up at the front desk. Each participant will re-ceive an assigned area which will consist of half a bed (8 available spots). You will also be responsible for cleaning & clearing up the bed at the end of the growing season.

OlderAmericansMonth2018:

“EngageatEveryAge”!

Across the country, older Americans – a rapidly growing population – are taking part in activities that promote wellness and social connec-tion. They are sharing their wisdom and experience with future generations, and they are giving back to make enrich their communities. They’re working and volunteering, mentoring and learning, leading and engaging.

For 55 years, Older Americans Month (OAM) has been observed to recognize older Americans and their contributions to our communities. Led by the Administration for Community Living’s Administra-tion on Aging, every May offers opportunity to hear from, support, and celebrate our nation’s elders. This year’s OAM theme, “Engage at Every Age,” emphasizes the importance of being active and in-volved, no matter where or when you are in life. You are never too old (or too young) to participate in activities that can enrich your physical, mental, and emotion well-being.

It is becoming more apparent that remaining social-ly engaged can improve the quality of life for older adults. The Council on Aging in Marshfield will use OAM 2018 to focus on how older adults in our area are engaging with friends and family, and through various community activities. Throughout the month, the Council on Aging will conduct activities and share information designed to highlight seniors in action. We encourage you to get involved in Marshfield by participation in the many activities such as our Annual Health Fair, Lifelong Learning, Development of our outdoor Recreation Plan, cul-tural trips, Elder Law Month’s Workshop, support groups and more. Congratulations to our seniors in Marshfield for engaging! (Source: Administration on Aging)
