Milestone’s are Nothing to Fear, Dear

A film which sees the world in black and white.

Outline of the Plot• A boy is in solitude within his house and depends on his

mother to care for him. His life is in colour and he is perfectly content. However, on his eighteenth birthday his mother gives him a present and a card. The card says the words ‘the door is open’. He then opens his present and discovers that it is a light switch. He doesn’t switch it on at that moment in time.

• He gets up and approaches his front door. He attempts to open it, but it seems locked. He then turns on the switch and his world turns into black and white. He then tries to open the door again and it works. The street before him is black and white, the boy is fascinated at first.

• But over time he discovers that it is not what all it seems to be. There is litter and the buildings seem ugly and unappealing.

What It All Means• This film is a tale of the change from childhood to adulthood. As we

all know there is a war between these two.

• At the age of eighteen you are expected to make your own decisions. We want to convey this within our film.

• The state of colour in his house at the beginning of the film symbolises his childhood. He is relatively happy, and there is not much in his life.

• The change from black and white and him exiting into the outside world symbolises adulthood. He is independent and sees this as a positive at first. However, he soon discovers the downsides of adulthood and it all seems bleak and unforgiving.

• The flower at the end of the film shows that there is hope in our lives, even if it is only small.

Script – First Draft and Storyboard

Locations• The first setting we will have to use is

my house. The dining room, hall way, and the front garden will have to be utilised. There aren’t any obstacles to stop us from doing this.

• Secondly, we shall use the streets surrounding my house. They are quiet and there are hardly any disruptions, so filming should be smooth.

• All of these locations are an advantage because we do not need permission to film in them. This helps save time and stress.

Character List and Costumes• I (Dylan) am the main character.

• I shall be showing you my marvellous acting skills to entertain you.

• As for what I will be wearing is pretty basic. A T-Shirt and jeans will be sufficient enough. Maybe a jumper if it is a bit chilly. I shall decide on the day.

• A package to hold the light switch.

• A birthday card which says something along the lines of ‘happy eighteenth birthday’.

• Our film needs little funding.

• The only thing we need is the facility to edit. So myself and my partner are asking from the bottom of our hearts for a space in your computer room.
