The Legend of the Aurora Alien On the morning hours of April 19, 1897. Farmers were waking up to the sounds of the rooster calling them were amazed to see something strange flying through the air. It was something they could not explain because it shined so bright it was hard to make out what it was. As they realized that it looked like a space craft the object flew straight into a windmill and tore into pieces. The farmers claimed it was a space craft and that it was a God blessing that the “alien” ran into the windmill. Aurora is a small town just off US 287 west of Rhome, about a mile south, on State Highway 114 to Bridgeport. It never seems to make alot of fuss, but this event had the whole nation focused on the town. It’s literally "the town that almost was" as the town's tiny history book states. It’s only claim to fame is the burial site of an alien pilot that crashed there in his "airship". The most memorable event in a string of UFO sightings which covered a three state area between 1895 and 1898. It became such a news frenzy that in 1986 producer Charles B. Pierce took the story of the “Aurora Alien” and made it into a movie called " The Aurora Encounter." The movie made a big noise in the state of Texas, everyone was driving all the way to Aurora to find this alien. Since the alien story became such a huge icon to travlers coming to Texas, the Texas government took matters into their own hands. The official historical marker was installed by the State of Texas. Although only few know exactly where the grave is located. It is certain that the alien was, in fact, buried in the Aurora Cemetery. The efforts of the local doctor failed to save it's life following the crash. There is, unfortunately, no sign of the tombstone. Some say It was stolen some years ago and never recovered MD Resort History Page 1 of 3 Author Donna Davis Mixon of MD Resort in Dallas Fort Worth Texas www.mdresort.com 817-489-5150

The Legend of the Aurora AlienOn the morning hours of April 19, 1897. Farmers were waking up to the sounds of the rooster calling them were

amazed to see something strange flying through the air.

Some say It was stolen some years ago and never recovered while others belive that it was removed so that grave robbers could not take it and it is hidden in a secret lovation. There are, however, picture records of its existence. There is currently a renewed movement in town to exhume the body of the alien, replace the headstone and do a complete search for remains of the crash. Also, there have been several interesting pieces of metal found in the area that have been confiscated for analysis by the military and never returned.

This historic story has been showen on tv series on the History Channel and UFO Hunters. If you would like to learn more about this information take a look at our website www.MDResort.com/auroraalien.htm

The historical marker and burial site are just right across the MD Resort property. Take a right out of the MD Resort drive way till you come to Highway 114. Take a right onto 114 and go down a half a mile to Cemetery Road and take a right. Travel that another half a mile and the cemetery will be on your left.
