Data Driven Instruction is EverywhereData Driven Instruction is EverywhereWhat happens in the Spring at The LawsonAcademy? Students and staff are reviewingperformance for STAAR success.
Students were assessed in August and November of2019 and again in January, 2020. Each assessmentmeasured this year's content. In August, the studentshad not been taught all of the year's content, ofcourse. By January, there were still some teachinggaps, but teachers had covered so much of thecontent that student scores increased by as muchas 21%.
What happens in March and April is that all Academyteachers are focused on helping to increase thosegains. Reteaching in small or large groups to geteveryone ready for the spring STAAR tests.

How You Can Help Your Student PrepareHow You Can Help Your Student PrepareWhen you think of parentinvolvement, do you picture momsand dads volunteering inclassrooms? That's one way tohelp, but research shows thatsupporting your child's educationat home is even more important.
Here are some conversationstarters that will help you stayinvolved.
"Let's see what you brought home." "Let's see what you brought home." Look at completed work to find out what yourstudent is learning and how well she's doing. You could comment on her mathwork or social studies project, for instance. ("You know a lot about our state'shistory!")
"Show me what you have for homework." "Show me what you have for homework." It is your child's job to do his homework, but you play a role, too. Make sure he knows what's he's supposed to do byhaving him explain the assignments to you. After he finishes his homework, glance over the work to see that it's complete.
"Describe a book you enjoyed today.""Describe a book you enjoyed today." This give you an idea of what your studentprefers to read. Then, build a daily reading habit by asking what she'd like to readtonight. Encourage her reading and listening skills by reading aloud to her andletting her read aloud to you!
"Tell me what you learned that you'd like to know more about." "Tell me what you learned that you'd like to know more about." Use his interests asjumping-off points for activities to share. If he likes geometry, you might hunt forshapes together. If he's fascinated by how animals adapt to winter, take him tothe library to research the subject or to the zoo to see live animals.

Special Campus VisitSpecial Campus VisitThe Effective School Framework (ESF) allows The Lawson Academy to examine itspractices so that improvement in staffing, leadership development, lesson plansand data analysis occurs. With these improvements, students learn more. Our ESFFacilitator, Patricia Clarkson, visited the campus in February and gave us greatfeedback. Yes, there are areas to improve but the Academy staff and studentsimpressed Ms. Clarkson very much!
