WAIT, WHY THE KITCHEN

SINK?

It’s the kitchen sink because we’ll cover topics in this session that doesn’t really make any sense to fit into other sessions.

You can split this into two sections: Making your website unique (Importing your existing content and customization) and when bad things happen (Backing up and Troubleshooting)

Isolate the issue!

Try deactivating all the plug-ins.

If you can’t get to the page to deactive the plug-ins, you can deactivate plug-ins through the FTP console.

As a sanity check, also try switching to a default theme.

Is it related to layout?

You’ll probably want to change the HTML inside the theme files.

Doesn’t apply to WordPress.com.

Then you’re looking to go into PHP.

Doesn’t apply to WordPress.com

MY $0.02

Most of the people in this day session are new to WordPress, and new to technology.

It’s pretty simple to do basic cosmetic changes to make your website unique using CSS, but if you’re doing any intermediate to advanced customizations, I would recommend using a highly customizable theme or paying a developer.
