The Electronic Transactions Act No. 19 of2006

The Electronic Transactions Act No. 19 of 2006is based on the United Nations Commission onInternational Trade Law (UNCITRAL) standards

which in Oct 2017 was upgraded to adhere to theUnited Nations Electronic Communications

Convention (UN ECC) – a boost to cross bordercommerce. Existing provisions of law for legal

protectiongiving legal protection to data and Informationmaintained in Information systems

• Computer Crimes Act No. 24 of 2007 (basedon Budapest Convention)

• Intellectual Property Act no. 36 of 2003 (fullycompliant with WTO TRIPS and providesprotection to undisclosed information)
