Barley Hall is a stunning medieval townhouse, once home to the Priors of Nostell and the Mayor of York. Located on the doorstep of York Minster, your group can explore the building now lovingly restored to its original splendour with stunning high ceilings, beautifully exposed timber frames and magnificent Great Hall.

Discover the story of medieval York during the reign of Richard III through to Henry VII at two of York’s major monuments, Monk Bar and Micklegate Bar.

Richard, the last Plantagenet king ruled for only two years before the Battle of Bosworth but his influence in York was great and endured through the rule of the man who defeated him in the struggle for the crown, Henry Tudor. Group visits will explore these royal gateways and experience the rebellion and conflict during the sixty years that spanned this turbulent period in British history.

Battlefield Walks and Historical Talks

Looking for something different for your group to do outside of a museum environment? For £4 per person, take them on a coach tour to some of the most historically important battlefields in the region and let our costumed battlefield officer guide your group on a leisurely fact-finding mission.*

Or if you would like to remain indoors, treat your group to an afternoon talk and tour of the Looking Back at Hungate excavation at DIG. An archaeologist from York Archaeological Trust will guide your group through the exhibition based on the largest developer-led excavation ever carried out in York where you will discover what was unearthed there and what it taught archaeologists about 2,000 years of archaeology in York. £3 per person.** Bookings must be made at least 30 days in advance and are subject to availability. You must wear comfortable shoes and provide own transport. Tours last 60mins.

Throughout the year, the JORVIK Group stages a programme of events at its attractions and partner sites in addition to the walks and talks on offer. Covering over 2,000 years of history, your group can explore the past through engrossing drama, arts activities and themed evening events to our attractions.

For a truly authentic Viking experience, bring your group to the annual JORVIK Viking Festival in February half-term. Featuring traders, feasts, re-enactments and a best beard competition, the city-centre is transformed to what life would have been like over one thousand years ago as hundreds of Vikings return to the place they once called home.

Coach Parking in the City Centre

1. Union Terrace Coach Park Coach Spaces: 35 Open 7 days, 8am – 11pm No overnight parking

2. St George’s Field Coach Park Coach Spaces: 27 Open 7 days, 8am – 6.30pm Overnight parking is permitted

3. There is also coach pick up and drop off point on Leeman Road, near York Train Station.
