MAR / 2016 The Ivy at Ellington April/2020
We celebrated staff appreciation day this past month
at The Ivy. At our residents daily social, we invited our
staff members from all departments to participate in a
game of Planko for a chance to win a prize. All staff
enjoyed refreshments with the residents and were
able to take some time to relax while the managers
took over their jobs for a little while.
As we all know, later in the month, coronavirus took
over; not only changing so many things in our building,
but also the world. Our staff members in each
department have truly stepped up and have had to
adapt to a new way of completing their jobs. Here at
The Ivy, we certainly appreciate our staff everyday, but
want to express our sincerest gratitude to each and

Lucky to Have Our Staff
MAR / 2016
With all of the unknowns of the world at this time, The Ivy at Ellington is following all state regulations; taking every precaution to ensure the safety of our residents. Meals have been switched to room service style, family has been asked to drop off essential items at the front desk without seeing their loved ones, and group activities have been suspended until further notice. This is all part of what they call “social-distancing.” We have connected residents to their family by facetiming with them through our company iPad. The smiles on their faces when they see their sons and daughters is priceless. We have a lot of family members who have come to wave to their loved ones through the front door and the girl scout troops writing positive messages to life up their spirits. Activities have been modified to 1:1 fun in residents room and hallway activities. Some of these include: hallway exercise, bingo, trivia, word games and lets not forget; hallway happy hour! Staff of The Ivy have been asked to “think outside the box” for creative ways to have families and frequent visitors still stay connected while continuing social distancing. It has not been an easy task for anyone, however, every one is doing their part to help keep the residents not only safe and healthy, but happy as well.

Not “Infect” Our Fun The Ivy at Ellington
March was filled with madness at The Ivy at Ellington. Our
residents were consistent about practicing for the big basketball
show-down that they were preparing for against the members of
our staff.
While residents came together a few times each week, they
became stronger and more accurate when shooting the basketball.
While some residents had played on teams in the past, some were
picking up a basketball for the very first time. Soon they
discovered that the more they practiced, the better they became.
This also allowed residents to improve their balance and hand-eye
coordination. Unfortunately, the resident vs. staff game was
postponed for now; however the residents our ready to battle!

"Hearing Better Now"
An elderly man was having hearing problems and went to see a special-ist. The doctor fitted him with some hearing aids that brought his hearing back to full strength.
After a few weeks the man came back to make sure the new equipment was working properly, which it was.
The hearing specialist said, “It all seems perfect. Your family should be delighted you can hear everything now.”
“Oh no,” the man responded. “I haven’t told any of them. I just sit quietly,
listening carefully. I’ve changed my will four times.”
“Listen To Your Doctor” Morris, an 82 year-old man, went to the doctor to get a physical. A few days later the doctor saw Morris walking down the street with a gor-geous young woman on his arm. A couple of days later the doctor spoke to Morris and said, "You're really doing great, aren't you?" Morris replied, "Just doing what you said, Doc: 'Get a hot mamma and be cheerful.'" The doctor said, "I didn't say that. I said, 'You've got a heart murmur. Be careful.'"
“Say what”
After 50 years of marriage the couple was sitting at the dinner table and the wife said to her husband: "After all these years of marriage I know that you are Tried and True." He replied, "What did you say?" She said in a louder voice: "After all these years of marriage I have learned that you are Tried and True." He said: "Speak louder!" She said in a louder voice: "After all these years of marriage I have learned that you are Tried and True."
