The challenge:

Even if policies and efforts to reduce emissions prove effective, some climate

change is inevitable; therefore, strategies and actions to adapt to its impacts are

also needed.

Despite attribution of causes of climate change,

we need to adapt..

Some definitions: NAS and NAP

National Adaptation Strategy (NAS): • Involvement of stakeholders and decision-makers.

• Analysis of possible mainstreaming of adaptation in the different sectorial policies.

• Recommendations and guidelines to build up adaptive capacity in different sectors and at different spatial scales (national, regional and local) and to reduce societal costs.

• Review after n years.

National Adaptation Plan (NAP): • Implementation of NAS with governance and funding allocatton.

• Evaluation of implementation.

EU WHITE PAPER: an agenda for adaptation

(Article 4 of the UNFCCC stipulates that every effort must be made to adopt national or regional adaptation strategies. )
