“What should young people do with their lives today? Many things, obviously. But the most daring thing is to create stable communities in which the terrible disease of loneliness can be cured.”

Kurt Vonnegut

“Men are free when they are obeying some deep, inward voice of religious belief. Obeying from within. Men are free when they belong to a living, organic, believing community, active in fulfilling some unfulfilled, perhaps unrealized purpose. Not when they are escaping to some wild west. The most unfree souls go west, and shout of freedom.” D.H. Lawrence

Trauma, Dissociation, and the Soul A Certificate Training Program

A Limited-Enrollment Intensive for Clinicians With Donald Kalsched, Ph.D.

At Pacifica Graduate Institute, Santa Barbara California Three Four-Day Sessions in 2017-2018

(November 1-5, January 8-11, February 28--March 4)

This program is an opportunity for clinicians from a variety of disciplines to explore the clinical, theoretical, and symbolic/spiritual dimensions of Donald Kalsched’s model of the inner world of trauma and its archetypal defenses of the imperishable personal spirit or soul - as described in his two books, many articles, and four decades of Jungian analytic practice. This understanding of dissociative structure, described as the Self-Care-System (SCS), holds open the possibility of a new way of thinking about the symbolic processes in trauma as they open a window into the mystical dimensions of existence, a new way of understanding other contemporary dissociative models of the mind, and a new way of envisioning the unique contribution of Jungian Depth Psychology to modern clinical practice. In each of the three extended sessions of the program, different facets of the model and its implications for understanding and healing trauma, while restoring the soul to embodied life, will be discussed. Film-clips will be used throughout as illustrations, and assigned reading between sessions will add important developmental background, especially in the areas of infant observation, attachment theory, and affective neuroscience. The program will take place on the Ladera Campus of Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, California. Housing for all participants is offered in the Retreat Facilities of Pacifica Graduate Institute.

First Session—Mapping the System Through Dreams, Transference, and Film

Second Session—Transactional Pathology and Treatment Approaches

Third Session: Mystical Dimensions of Psychotherapy with Trauma Survivors

Additional Boulder Transportation Resources

We do have a new transportation system with a terrific bus that leaves from our local bus station on Walnut Street about 10 blocks west of hotel (super comfy ride) for $9.00 ticket bought inside the bus station. During peak times it can get full, so get your ticket early. Leaves 20 minutes after the hour and takes 45-50 minutes. It’s the A/B bus to and from DIA to Boulder. Google and you shall find. Gets right to airport, up escalators to check in area. Also, catching it at airport is same time—20 minutes after the hour. Uber/taxi/Lift is approx $3.00 from hotel to bus station and then the bus……it’s a comfortable ride—not a stand up city bus ride.

~ ~ ~ I wonder whether anyone else has checked out Green Ride transportation. They run between Denver Int. Airport and Boulder and are much less expensive than Boulder Transport. Here is the link in case anyone is interested: http://greenrideboulder.com (Jan, [email protected])

Santa Fe Summer Intensive

June 2-4, 2017

Hotel Santa Fe, Santa Fe

New Mexico

Brian Feldman, Ph.D., will coordinate the weekend intensive with an emphasis on: Attachment, Infant Observation and Infant Research: Their Impact upon the Practice of Contemporary Jungian Psychoanalysis The weekend intensive will focus on the impact of attachment theory, infant observation and infant research upon the practice of contemporary Jungian psychoanalysis with child, adolescents and adults. A particular focus will be directed at the use of the analytical transference/countertransference when working with infantile/primitive mental states as well as upon work with symbolic material. Symbolic processes as expressed via dreams, active imagination, and sandplay are often an important component of healing early trauma in analysis and will be an integral focus of the seminar. The development of the psychic skin as a container of symbolic/emotional experience and the impact of culture upon the developing psyche/soma will also be discussed. Participants will be able to present clinical cases and readings will be provided that expand upon both theory and clinical practice. Brian Feldman is a certified child, adolescent, and adult Jungian psychoanalyst and infant observation seminar trainer (AIDOBB). He holds visiting professorships at the State University of Humanitarian Sciences in Moscow and the City University of Macau. He is the IAAP liaison person for the Macau Developing Group. “He is among those beings of great scope who spread their leafy branches willingly over broad horizons. To be a man is, precisely, to be responsible. It is to know shame at the sight of poverty which

is not of our making. It is to be proud of a victory won by our comrades. It is to feel, as we place our stone, that we are contributing to the building of the world.”

Messages from the Heart

Nine Bows, Buddhist Contemplation “Homage to all that is healing

in a person’s life, in traditions,

and in the world. Homage to all that is healing

in the lives of saints and sages, in this practice,

and in my own mind, and

homage to all that is healing in the stream of ancestral teachers,

in the immediate community of support, and in our positive motivations.

Many many bright blessings on you and yours. May all beings benefit.”

Names to hold in our healing meditations.
