Rejoice in the Lord Always
So it is that Paul begins to wrap up his message to the beloved church in Philippi. “Rejoice in the Lord always. Iwill say it again: Rejoice!” (Phil. 4:4). How can Paul be so bold as to command theChristian church to rejoice always? Is it possible to rejoice in all situations andcircumstances of life? There are times when rejoicing seems beyond imaginable andwe might complain that Paul is unrealistic and naïve. One thing Paul certainly is not, however, is naïve. It would be one thing for some silver spooned child who has knownonly luxury and comfort to say “rejoice always,” but it is another thing for Paul theapostle writing from his prison cell—a man familiar with depravation and hunger, aman who has known far more suffering than he has comfort and luxury—to commandus to rejoice always.
Scripture seems to make a habit of making unrealistic and naïve commands like this. Jesus you remember said,“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (John 13:34).There may be times when loving one another is hard and perhaps seems impossible. Jesus even addresses some ofthose times with yet another naïve command, “If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other cheekalso.” (Matthew 5:39). Jesus commands us to love and Paul commands us to rejoice and neither one is naïve to thehardships of this world.
We may struggle to know where to begin if we are to obey such commands. Well, Paul gives us some soundadvice in Philippians if we are to be people who love and rejoice. In regard to these commands I might borrow someother words of Paul, “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on totake hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” (3:12). One great way to press on is to follow Paul’srecommendation in chapter 4:8; “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is pure, whatever islovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things.”
I think if I could focus my thoughts and attention on what is true, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent andpraiseworthy, that I would be far more likely to rejoice always. So much of our attention can be drawn to theopposite things, the falsehoods of gossip and slander, the impurity of greed and gluttony, the not so lovely languagethat has become so commonplace in our society, the deplorable acts of evil we hear reported night after night, etc.Maybe we need a retreat from so much soul crushing stuff and learn to contemplate the good stuff Paul talks about.Maybe then, we would have the spiritual strength to rejoice always! To start: What a lovely Spring! In Christ, John

Annual Chicken BBQSaturday July 7th, 2018
Lunch: Noon - 4:00 pm @ Street FairTake-out: 5 - 7 pm - pickup $20.00
Have you heard the latest news? The Mattituck Street fair is moving! This year it will be held on Old Sound Ave.In front of the church. This changes things for our Chicken BBQ.
It will make access to the church a little more difficult but it will allow us to sell our chickens at the fair. We willstart serving lunches around noon and have tables and chairs set up on the lawn.
Take-out dinners will need to be a little later: 5 to 7 pm. This will allow the street fair to clear and the road to reopen. So, come to the fair and have the best BBQ chicken for lunch or get tickets and pick up your dinner after 5 pm.
Family Fun Packs are changing due to the Street Fair being right in front of the Church. We will not be doing thedelivery service. You can still have the family party and we will still cook for you, but you'll have to come and pickit up this year. (After 5 pm) We'll still have 6, 8, 10 and 12 packs so you can save a bit on large orders. Call Rory formore details.
Tickets are available on June 10th in the office or from Rory MacNish and a host of others! Rory could use LOTSOF EXTRA HELP selling tickets, cooking, prepping, serving lunch at the Street Fair, as well as set up and clean-upcrews. Want to help out? Call Rory MacNish (921-4555) All proceeds go to missions!
We will need lots of extra help. This change could double our sales and let us make twice as much money formissions! We will be serving twice and need two serving crews, so sign up now. WE NEED YOU!

Christmas Fair 2018
You are invited to attend our first planning meeting for the 2018 Christmas Fair on June 10th at 12:00 noon (afterthe second service) in the Social Hall. The success of the 2017 fair was largely due to the hard work and enthusiasticattitude of those involved, and we are aiming for more of the same this year! Do you think we can make it evenbetter in 2018?
Most of the tables will stay the same: crafts & gifts, holiday arrangements and decorations, foods, wooden items, jewelry, new and fine items, cookies and the children’s room. Again, we are looking for classy and one-of-a-kinditems and want the majority of what we sell to be homemade.
Please join us as we exchange ideas and information. It is not too early to start your crafts and we are lookingforward to working together and enjoying fellowship and friendship as we serve the Lord in this way. Remember, allproceeds will benefit our mission program!Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.Peggy Rose and Ruthanne Woodhull

Haiti Trip 2019
Hello from the Haiti Task Force (HTF). I realize that most people are in the midst of making summer plans withlittle concern for what will be happening in January of 2019. However, this might just be the best time to “tossout” the idea of you joining the HTF of MPC on a life enriching trip to Haiti. The dates for the trip are January 10to the 24th.
During the trip each traveler will have the opportunity to experience worshipingin the various churches that we have partnered with, meet with the various leaders of thechurches, be a part of the reviewing of our existing programs as well as participating inour sharing of “dreams for the future”. Oh yes, each traveler will help in the dentalefforts or the eye clinic…or both. Beyond what has been listed above, each traveler willexperience the warmth of the people and the country that you’ve seen so often in thenews over the years.
This trip invitation is early for the HTF, however. We need to have the name of each perspective traveler byearly in September so that all the trip plans can be made. If you are interested in being a part of this adventure, please email Tom at: [email protected] to get the Missionary Application Form, fill it out and give it toTom Christianson at PO Box 65, New Suffolk, NY 11956, or put it into the HTF mailbox in the church.
Thank you for your interest in Haiti, for the Haiti Task Force- Tom C.

Faith Gospel Missionary Outreach
Jamaica West India
I traveled to Jamaica in February 2018. We had a pastor meeting and a convention while I was there. We lostBishop Chambers to Alzheimers just after the convention. I have worked with him since 1990. It was a very sadtime but I was glad I could be part of his large funeral. We spent time working with all the churches: remodeling, painting and newsigns on the outside. We did manage to paint Rose Bank Church on theoutside and will paint the inside next year. Frazer church still needs a lot ofwork.
Africa
I will travel to Africa this November. We now have two churches underconstruction. We want to start two more this year and build 50 benches tobe given to 34 tribal villages that also want churches built. Pray that the
Lord will send money for allthese new churches.
India
I had some problems with the government. They said they would lockup or deport any missionaries that came into the country. I canceled myflight and was told I could come next year. Please keep this in prayer.
All the churches preached the message of the Cross. Jesus died for our sin, shed his blood and rose from the deadon the third day. This is all we have to believe to have eternal life. Thanks for your gifts and prayer. Lord Jesus bless you greatlyAll the best Gene Heacock

Thank You
Our sincere thanks to everyone for the cards, letters, memorial visits and especially the prayers for our family, during the loss of our daughter, Cynthia Weber Caprise. Your prayers and kind thoughts sustained us in our lastdays with Cindy. I would like to add my thoughts about reconciliation among families. We only have a short timeon this earth and it would be so good to be at peace with each other while we are here. Jesus tells us to love oneanother. Sometimes we do not understand why these things happen. God only knows. So, be at peace with oneanother....the peace that comes only from our Lord:. "Though we walk through the shadow of death...He is with us." Psalm 23.Most sincerely, Adrienne and Fred Weber and family; Rick, Susan and Christina.
Many thanks to the people from this church for the donations for the Mattituck HighSchool Scholarship given in Mindy’s memory. A very good candidate has been chosen toreceive this award and we just know Mindy would be thrilled.God Bless You, Jean and Coop
