Growing of Jathropa seeds and extraction of oil

Project type: Modernization / Expansion Foreign collaboration sought: JV, MA, EP Total investment:: 180 Foreign contribution: 60 In recent years, the leading automotive sector research institutions have tested that oil extracted from Jatropha curcasseed can be processed to produce a high-qualitybiodiesel and the residue (press cake) can also be processed and used as biomass feedstock to power electricity plants or fertilizer. The Ugandan project partner has already tested possibility of production of the Jatropha oil and seeks expansion of operation to a larger scale. The project foresees training of local farmers and contracting seeds from them. It is assumed that some 450 tonnes of valuable fuel for local use and export will be produced. The Project has strong social and environmental impacts, providing income to farmers and alternative source of affordable eco-fuel, that can be also used for household purposes.
