THE InTERnATIOnAl COnfEREnCE On RESIDEnCy EDuCATIOn

President’s welcome

Welcome to the Royal College’s 2014 International Conference on Residency Education (ICRE), a one-of-a-kind educational event, attracting thousands of medical educators from across Canada and around the world. This year’s theme “Residency Education and Care in the Digital Age”, will examine the current trends in residency education, the implications of the digital age on current programs, and much more.

Over the next three days, we are focused on helping you educate in a more effective and efficient manner. The 2014 program features 14 learning tracks, more than 60 workshops, and over 200 poster and paper presentations. This incredible wealth of knowledge has helped to shape our most dynamic and challenging program yet!

We are excited to include four plenary sessions from world renowned leaders in medical education, all of whom have a special interest and expertise in Residency Education and Care in the Digital Age. We are also thrilled to be hosting the first-ever Social Media (SoMe) Summit in Health Professional Education, where Drs Michelle Lin and Anne Marie Cunningham will discuss the key social media issues affecting health professional education, and will share the best practices for adoption and implementation of social media into your curriculum. Not only will the SoMe Summit provide you with an opportunity to learn, but you will have the chance to contribute to the consensus recommendations on this new and exciting technology.

On behalf of the ICRE planning team, I would like to thank you for joining us this year in Toronto. We hope that each and every attendee leaves with at least one new idea, or piece of valuable knowledge that will impact and improve their educational practice.

Sincerely,

Cecil H. Rorabeck, O.C., MD, FRCSC President, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
