I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their effort throughout the year. The success of GTE is built on the effort of our employees and we have come through a year that was filled with both challenges and victories.

The introduction of Sales Map has been a very proud moment since our employees indicated the need to provide them with tools so they can become a world class sales team. Cash cows, dog, puppy and star is now part of the sales daily live along as mark up and turnover.

Warm welcome to the Sales Europe team that join us in October, their profiles and pictures are presented in this edition. Cultural diversity is an important value and I am truly excited to share our experiences and know-how so altogether we can become and even more formidable team.

Congratulations to the Shanghai Operations team due to their fantastic contribution this summer, they have been successfully awarded the Half Yearly Global Star Award under team category and Adriana Arias, Carmen Cedeno, Lestari Lestari, Luke Liu, Yali Hong, Jin-Ju Lee, Vilas Bolna, Pooja Nigam, Micheal Vuille, who were recognized for their contribution thru out the year.

We were confronted as well a lot of adversity from currencies devaluation to, health scare and just recently the terrible Paris attacks but also there is intense heat coming from our competitors, more rapidly than we ever expected. They as well face difficulties in our key markets like Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan and Thailand. Our reaction was to discount our prices and resulted in a large drop of GOP, yet did not drive higher volume.

In the face of significant challenges, we made progress with the swift recommendation of our Business Transformation Program. Our priorities are to focus on profitable customer and market segment and increase our profit.

While there is much work to do and there may be further challenges ahead, we end 2015 stronger and better able to serve our clients.

How reassuring it has been to know that we can count on all you regardless of what faces us. Please allow me to extend my personal and genuine appreciation to each and every one of you for your valuable contribution. Working with you this past year has been a pleasure and we are proud to have you all with us.

Please enjoy some well-deserved rest with family and friends during these holidays and let’s get right back to in 2016

Kuoni Group CEO Peter MeierChina experience in the China Group tour in EuropeIn May 2015, Kuoni Group’s CEO Peter Meier joined a group tour with tourists from mainland China during three days in Europe. The tour was organised and fulfilled by Kuoni Group Travel Experts, a leading group travel operator with a strong footprint in Asia. The tour gave Peter Meier important insights in one of Kuoni Group’s core activities. While travelling together with the Chinese group he could get first-hand information about Kuoni’s services and operations, what the guests needs are, and how they enjoyed the trip.

Peter Meier joined the 12-days tour for three days between Interlaken/Switzerland and Florence/Italy. The complete group tour started in London followed by Windsor, Cambridge, Greenwich, over to Paris, Versailles, Dijon, to Switzerland, further to Verona, Florence, Rome, Bologna, Venice, crossing the Alps to Innsbruck/Austria, Füssen/Germany and Munich.

Peter Meier was very impressed by the professional organisation of the trip. Particularly by the experienced coach driver and the tour leader who had to manage the group. Not an easy task when everybody has to know, where to be, always keeping up with the schedule, and helping the guests with issues in their hotel rooms e.g. how to use the shower and its attached curtain. 38 Chinese travellers participated in the tour, the oldest was 80 years old, the youngest about 25.

During the three days Peter Meier had joined the trip, he made unforgettable experiences: “I enjoyed this tour very much; it was rich in variety, interesting, impressive and so much fun at the same time. I should really learn Chinese. I could talk to some people, but I had fun with everybody, and I saw that the group really enjoyed this tour through Europe.”

Do you know that our US team has now launched our own Facebook page under Travel Bound. The page provides not only the corporate parts, but also show the fun side around the office sphere! There are also updates about us on the media, introduction of the staff, tips for travellers, popular Europe destinations and many more interesting stories.

Today I have a chance to interview Carmen Cedeno, the person behind these amazing stories and the good-looking graphics. Let’s see how she leverages the power of social media with the business.

Before launching the Travel Bound Facebook page, both the Groups and FIT marketing department had to come together to

discuss who would control the content of the page. For social media, it is always good to ensure that one person, or a few

people, have control of the messaging, brand, and voice as it is a public space. The decision came to appoint me as that person. Facebook also allows others to have certain roles within a page,

and this would be ideal for companies that have a dedicated social media team.

Then, we discussed what content would be appropriate for Facebook. Facebook is a social networking website, and B2B companies continue to grow their usage across social sites.

For Facebook, customers (regardless of B2B or B2C) are always looking for the human element of a brand. Brands have to be relatable, knowledgeable and contemporary in their strategy.

This means that posting about sales and the cost of tours is not a good idea. Instead, we figured that it would be best to highlight our staff to show that there are people behind our brand, and writing about cool facts and experiences that are

tied to destinations and attractions we sell.

How did you plan the strategy before launching?

Sometimes, it can be quite hard to come up with original content for each day. What a lot of brands do is that they pull information from other news outlets. However, this won’t position a brand as original, so we use posts from our TravelTalk blog to post on Facebook. Consumers are also looking for content that they can easily digest without leaving Facebook. For this, we post:

• “Travel Quote Tuesday” - A travel quote every Tuesday

• “Travel Bound Team Thursday” - Post every Thursday

– Highlighting someone from our team, their favorite destination, and an interesting fact

– Or highlighting an office activity that involved staff members

• On Fridays, we post a lovely picture of a destination and wish everyone a great weekend.

What is the strategy behind each day feed?

We have gotten positive feedback from agents. A lot of agents share our content to their followers, and even share our content on Twitter! We don’t even have a Twitter page yet, so it’s great that our content resonates with our audience beyond Facebook. We’ve also gotten a few agents who have posted feedback about their experience with Travel Bound. It’s really great to see. There is no differentiator between US and CA clients, since our content is relevant to both agents. Also, our growth has been all organic (no paid followers or ads), and by the end of the year, we hope to have 1,000 organic fans.

How’s feedback from US and CA clients? How is the response so far? And what is the

preference content by US and CA clients?

Our original posts are the ones that get the most traction, because it’s fresh, easy to digest, and relevant to our audience. It also opens up the opportunity for a conversation.

I have been operating many Scandinavia groups in the past 2 years until it has subconsciously become my dream destination. Fortunately, I was offered a great opportunity to join a tour to Scandinavia. I then took this opportunity with the expectation to gain more knowledge of destination know-how, to learn more about service arrangements and also to share this experience to others in my team. This luxury itinerary is from one of our top key agents, “Unity 2000 tour”, which is considered as a high-end product. I have joined this tour along with 36 other clients including 2 tour leaders who I’ve never met before. They’re mostly family members and couples. Unfortunately I was a solo traveller. Let’s see how it goes……..

I started this tour in Copenhagen, Denmark. The flight landed safely in the morning with the clear sky and the spell of sunshine. The tour started smoothly and I had visited all major tourist attractions; Christiansborg Palace, Gefion Fountain and The Little Mermaid. These 3 places are the top 3 most famous attractions in Copenhagen. I had some free time shopping in the afternoon before boarding the DFDS for Oslo.

The ferry took the whole night to get to Oslo, Norway, my next destination. The ferry docked at around 9:45am and the biggest part of this trip in Norway had begun. I went to many popular cities. However, the most memorable and impressive was “The North Cape”, located on the furthest land of Europe and can be reached by road. Why do people all over the world desire to go there? I can tell you. The North Cape is the place where people come to watch a midnight sun. The midnight sun is a natural phenomenon that occurs in the summer in the north of Arctic Circle. The sun is visible 24 hours.

Later, we moved on to Finland. The tour ran from the north to the middle of Finland. Rovaniemi is the next city. It is the place where people come to visit Santa Claus village and cross the magical of Arctic Circle. I took flight to Helsinki, the capital of Finland, and overnighted there. Next day, it was the day for overnight stay on the ship SILJA LINE. The ship is bigger and has more facilities than DFDS so I spent my night time enjoying all facilities and entertainments on board.

My last destination is Stockholm, Sweden. The tour had started by half day sightseeing tour within the city. I had visited all the famous places. At night, I went out with other clients to hang out for our last night of this trip. Luckily, we went to the central park and there was a concert for the End of Summer called “We are STHLM”! It was very good! Later, we sat in one of the bars nearby and talked about our trip and funny stories we did in the past 10 days.

Lastly, I would like to thank the person who gave me a chance to join this trip. I have more confident in operating the tour to Scandinavia and answering the questions regarding to it. I also enjoy sharing an experience and the new knowledge to my colleagues. If you have any questions about the Scandinavian trip, you can contact me! At the end, please keep selling Scandinavia group.

Could you please give us a brief background of yours?

I have been working previously on the retail business mostly on the sales and marketing management. The retail industry is the fast pace and the target consumer is mostly mass comparing to our industry this is mostly theopposite.HoweverIhavefoundoutthatthecustomerprofilesaresimilar in term of attitude and way of doing business. The real challenge here is the team management. We have quite a young team here n term ofworkingexperienceandages.IamconfidentthatIcanbringthosepastexperience of mine and help in moving the team and business forward.

How do you see or love travelling?

Travelling is one of my main activity during weekend and free time even it is within the country. It helps me to open my vision and see others’ world and perspective. It actually helps me to relax especially when I can drive on the trip.

Where are your dream destinations and why?

Since one of my interest is art history, any destinations where I can visit the museums to study the art pieces or places that has the history and story behind, would be really be my dream destination. I am also interested in F1 motorsport, Monaco grand prix is one of the must event that I have attend in the future.

Anything else you’d like to add?

It has been very challenging time for me with Kuoni for 4 months. I have really enjoyed being as part of Kuoni’s family. I have met great people and colleagues.
