The Teradata Unified Data Architecture (UDA)
The Teradata Unified Data Architecture™ (UDA) is a collection of services, platforms, applications and
tools that help large companies define and deploy an architecture that makes optimal use of available
technologies in a way that unleashes the value of data. The UDA offers capabilities represented in the
orange (Insights), blue (Discovery) and green (Staging) sections of the above diagram. Components
include:
Integrated Data Warehouse: For an Integrated Data Warehouse (IDW), Teradata
offers its Active Integrated Data Warehouse, the market-leading platform for delivering
strategic and operational analytics, providing a single source of centralized data for reuse.
Integration of structured data from consumer, customer (trading partner) and internal
operational sources offer many benefits, including:
- Data Mart Consolidation: Teradata consolidates and integrates multiple or many (hundreds) of databases, regardless of size or complexity, to achieve significant cost reductions in hardware, software, maintenance, and support infrastructure.
- Financial Reporting and Analytics: Providing a consolidated view of financials across
regions, countries, brands and/or organizations, including specific applications and
consulting expertise to enhance SAP analytics and reporting.
- End to End Supply Chain Analytics: Tracking and optimizing product from manufacture
to distribution, delivery, promotion and sale to the consumer.
- Industry Specific Data Models: Comprehensive, mature, industry specific data models
developed from 25 years of experience in complex, data intensive analytics.

core data elements, such as consumer, product hierarchy, customer, etc.

Data Discovery Platform: For a Discovery Platform, Teradata offers Aster with its SQL-
MapReduce capabilities for discovery analytics using pre-packaged analytics and applications
for data-driven discovery. This provides accessibility by mainstream business analysts through
familiar interfaces like SQL and leading BI tools. If the discovery is on stable schema data,
Teradata recommends a partitioned data lab in the Data Warehouse instead. Some common
Consumer Goods use cases for Discovery include:
- Weblog Analysis: understanding visitor behavior or uncovering trends and affinities
between pages, products, visitor attributes.
- Attribution Analysis: Identifying and quantifying the most impactful marketing
campaigns, media or channels in order to better allocate marketing resources to the
most effective activities.
- Influencer Analysis: Identifying and quantifying the most influential people or
organizations for individual categories, products, or markets to enable prioritized
communications and relationships.
- Golden Path Analysis: Understanding the shortest path to an event through a
combination of interactions, such as Facebook visits, email campaigns, contact center,
and website visits in order to understand and encourage consumers to take a specific
action (e.g. new registration, coupon download, store purchase, R&R posting, etc.).
- Sentiment Analysis: Understanding the marketplace reaction to messages, product
launches, campaigns or other public communications in order to react more quickly and
affect program success.
- Parts Maintenance Analysis: Identifying and understanding the warning signs of part
failure on manufacturing equipment, office equipment or other capital assets in order to
take preventative action.
- Fraud Detection: Identifying fraudulent activities, transactions, warning signs or trends
to take preventative or immediate corrective action.
- Call Center Analytics: Identify multi-channel behavioral patterns to optimize IVR flow,
call routing design, improve the customer experience, or reduce operating costs.

Data Staging Environment: For Loading, Storing and Refining Data, Teradata
recommends and provides Hadoop as effective, low-cost technology. It is not designed for high
concurrency or discovery analytics in a mixed workload environment. Nor is Hadoop discovery
simple and available to non-technical personnel – Discovery analytics are performed most often
with a dedicated Discovery Platform.
Multi-structured data sources representing significant historical time periods can now be pulled
into a Discovery Platform for iterative analytics, such as brand websites (including mobile) and
social media platforms (via API or third party data providers).
Integrated Marketing Management
Teradata’s Integrated Marketing Management (IMM) framework encompasses the lifecycle of
marketing activities including: planning, budgeting, asset management, workflow, campaign
management, digital messaging and analytics. Teradata’s IMM capabilities include:
- Automated Campaign Management (Relationship Builder): Automating the development and
execution of personalized marketing campaigns through any channel, including email, mobile,
website, postal mail, and contact center.
- Real Time Interaction Management: Analyzing consumer interactions through any inbound channel
and then optimizing and delivering the next best action in real time (milliseconds) through any
channel, such as website and contact centers.
- Digital Messaging-Services: Email and mobile specific delivery and creative services.
- Digital Asset Management: Consolidating and managing digital assets for use across marketing
functions - e.g. Website, emails, printed or video advertising and promotion.
- Workflow Automation: Automating best practice processes to reduce costs and improve
productivity across marketing organizations, especially in areas of creative design, marketing
program development, financial or budgetary approval.
- Marketing Budgeting, Planning and Spend Management: Managing, tracking and analyzing
marketing specific budgets and expenditures to enable better visibility and allocation of marketing
resources.

management technologies delivered as a managed service and including the security, governance
and householding necessary to develop accurate and trusted communications with consumers.
