LESSON PLAN(S) FOR OBSERVED LESSON(S)

11

REFLECTIVE LEARNING LOGReflecting on practice is core to the Induction/Early Professional Development programme and the Department of Education’s School Improvement Process which places much emphasis on the importance of ‘quality teaching and learning in the classroom’ and the need for ‘teachers to reflect on their own work and the outcomes of individual pupils.’ (‘Every School A Good School’: DE, 2009). It requires you to make periodic and deliberate pauses during the action plan process to note significant moments in your own and your pupils’ development and to use the information gained to help continuously inform and improve your teaching so as to further enhance your own and your pupils’ knowledge and skills.

EVALUATION OF INDUCTION ACTION PLAN 1

Evaluation is about using the evidence and information you have gathered from the monitoring process to make judgements about your chosen area for development and to ascertain the extent to which your success criteria has been achieved.

It looks at what you set out to do, at what you have accomplished, and how you accomplished it.

You can use the information to inform what you will do differently and what changes/improvements you will make in your teaching.

15

SELF REFLECTION on INDUCTION ACTION PLAN 1(To be used as part of the basis for discussion when completing the interim report).

Having completed the evaluation of your action plan you should now take some time to reflect on the process that you have gone through. You may wish to give some consideration to the following:

o What have you learned about yourself and your own professional development while working through your first action plan?

o What particular skills did you exhibit/develop?o To what extent do you feel you furthered your knowledge and understanding of your

chosen area for development?o Have you identified any other professional needs that you feel you need to develop as a

result of this action plan process?o What do you now need to do to take your professional development needs forward?
