A Spark of Interest

This book interested me because well art is what I like to do or see if I want. Plus, I wondered how Impressionism came to be.

The Facts I remember…

From what I can remember the Impressionist used bright colors in the painting, go outside and paint the scenery, and in their lessons at an art intuit they used real people as the model.

The 4-part Facts of what I Learned

First, the year that paints were now portable was in the 1840’s. How were paints portable? They were in small tubes, and before their existences artist had create the colors they wanted.

Second, Felix Nadar used a hot-air balloon to take aerial photographs of France.

Third, when the Salon rejected about over 2,000 paintings. Some of the artists thought that jury were being bias about their works and it an up roar, so Napoleon 3rd intervened and saw the rejected paintings and ordered a separate exhibition called: “The Salon of the Refused”.

Finally, Calude Monet painted the Rouen Catherdral over thirty times of different lighting, angles, and seasons for that matter. Durand-Ruel displayed about twenty of them in his gallery and were sold quickly.

The one thing that interest me the most

How Japanese art influenced the Impressionists. The one person that most influenced was Mary Cassatt. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1845. Her family were wealthy people, and she pursue a career in art but against her family’s wishes. She first studied at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts; then moved to Paris were she studied privately.

Critique• Yes, I would recommend it to anyone else. The

Impressionist is well illustrated book that knows what it’s talking about. It has “all” of the names listed of the people who broke the barriers for future artists. I can explain more but that’ll take forever, so I

recommend this to anybody who like to know how France and art change over a course of time.

Significance

Impressionism open new doors of topics and new techniques for the artist. Without it, Cubism and Pointillism would have never been created and will never existed.
