The importance of music education

Music education is important in American schools.It is important physically,

emotionally, intellectually, socially, and spiritually.

The Power Chord Academy teaches and extols the virtues learned from

musical learning and performance.It learn to be self disciplined to practice, take

instruction and to perform solo or in group.Musicians to be dedicated because

they should spend the necessary time to learn music.Teamwork can produce if

performs in multi-person performances.Studying music widens knowledge in

music theory, history, and cultural sensitivity.Learning music bring continuous

improvement.Musicians boost in self confidence if able to entertain audiences

and follow a composer's intentions.Musicians instill humility when perform without

making one's self the center of attention rather than the music and to be a

vicarious extension of original composer's work.Musicians take hard work to

master good musicianship.A successful musical performance and practice

require goal setting.Musicians sharpen skills by taking on more demanding

performances, keeping physically and mentally fit, and striving to remain

audience centered.Practice is the bane and essence of quality musicianship.

The National Association For Music Education suggests in their Music

Education Facts and Figures website four categories of benefits of music

education: society, school, intelligence, and life.

In society, secondary students who participated in band or orchestra is the

lowest current use of alcohol, tobacco and illicit drugs.Arts makes better math

and science students.It can increase intellectual development and aids in socialcontrol. Arts aid in creating jobs and increasing the quality of life for communities.

In school,students involved in music education score higher on their SATs.It

also reduces disruptive students.Musically students receive more academic

honors than do non-musically students.

In developing intelligence,music practice can have a payoff for attention skills,

and an ability for self knowledge and expression.Music education enhances

abstract reasoning needed in learning math and science.Lessons on song bells

led to improvement of spatial-temporal scores.Music crosses disciplines in

students development and performance and to enhance later lifetime needs.

In life,studying music encourages self-discipline and diligence.It promotes self

expression, and provides self gratification. Music can bring people together and

help us experience our common humanity.

Advantages music education are: music teaches a transfer of abstractions

(notes) into concrete realities (music); music teaches patience with one's self and

others with tasks; music performance aids in building and refining coordinationand grace; music aids in mental coordination and timing; any instruction in the

arts advances a sense of aesthetics; music learns about history, culture and

builds tolerance of and appreciation of other peoples; music offers useful sensory

stimulation; music therapists who use music to calm, quiet, and heal patients; the

arts foster greater social interaction; music incorporates a spiritual dimension to

life; musical performance opens a vehicle for improvising; and performance

allows the musician to learn and recognize the value of criticism.

So,parents, teachers, school administrators, and accrediting agencies should

promote and illustrate the benefits of music education.
